    My first banjo was an Alvarez. Bluegrass special resonator. Bought it in 88. I've owned Deerings,Bishline,Recording King,Maybelle and Gold Tone . I love my RK35.

    I'm surprised to see a beginner banjo selection video that doesn't mention Gold Tone banjos out of Titusville, FL Their AC line of composite banjos are great for beginners and also for seasoned banjo players looking for a travel banjo. The AC-12 has a 12" rim and a frailing scoop for $270. The entry level AC-1 is only $250. They even have double truss rods in the neck

    One of the finest clawhammer banjos I ever got is the new Goldtone AC12/A .Nice wider neck and with the shorter string lenght the bridge is closer to the middle of the drum .That helps with tone for Clawhammer.. $300.00 out the door .. Fantastic beginner banjo for Clawhammer ..All the best Guy .. 53 years playing clawhammer and still in love with it ...//

    I just bought my eleven-year-old grandson a Mirio banjo from Amazon and if he really likes it and sticks with it I was going to get him a better one. Thanks for the video I'm subbed

    I purchased a 4 string Beltone Irish tenor banjo thinking it would be easiest to play IDK, but I really want to learn how to play some Dixie or Irish tunes.

    You didn’t mention Gold Tone, a folk instrument specific company. I started with a cheap banjo and eventually upgraded to a good Gold Tone.

    I'm 34 and I found out I have cancer yesterday. Playing the banjo has been my dream since I was seven years old. I dont really have more than $300 to spend on it though. Can you help recommend where I could look for one at? I'm not looking to be a professional, just checking off an item on my bucket list. Thank you!

      Kira I am so sorry to hear that. Yes look on the guitar center website. They have some good banjos in the 250- 300 dollar range. Keep your head up and never stop fighting. You will be in my thoughts and prayers

    HI, I am just getting ready to buy my first banjo. I found a nice Deering Goodtime 2 for about 1/2 the cost of a new one, so I am excited to get it and get to picking. Thanks for your channel

      @@BanjoAddict Thank you. Being a guitar player with fat fingers, I generally like a baseball bat and wide nut type neck, but I hear many banjos including the Deering has a 1 1/4 inch nut makes me a little concerned about space and ease of fingering. Any thoughts?

    Great video. I’m looking to purchase my first banjo in near future. I found a RK Dirty Thirty and comparable Epiphone MB-100 5-String Banjo. Both are open back and pretty decent quality. Looked at banjos with resonators and they sound great but seem a little on the heavy side. My question is can you play bluegrass on a open back banjo or claw hammer on a banjo with a resonator or is a no-no. Thanks for the help.

    • @BanjoAddict
      @BanjoAddict  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can play both styles on either banjo.

    Can you play a banjo with just your thumb like a guitar or do you have to use your thumb and index finger?

    • @BanjoAddict
      @BanjoAddict  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im sure you could play the banjo with just the thumb, although i have never witnessed it im sure its possible

    What do you think of having a 12" 5 string open back to start with?

    • @BanjoAddict
      @BanjoAddict  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      honestly i believe any banjo is great as long as in can hold a tuning. I have not personally had much experience with a 12" rim. I would think the tone may be different. I know a lot of players love the 12" rim so you should be fine.

    Friend, thank you for the info. I’m new to banjo, and in South Africa, the options are very limited. (No Deering here, and importing is hugely expensive.) I can only find an Ibanez B50 or Epiphone MB-200. Both models are produced china. (Totally keen for a Deering... Sniff!) Should I go for one of these? I’ve seen SUCH mixed reviews on both, so reluctant to buy one. Would love your input.
