Wow Kia has come a long way. They’re basically way cooler looking and to drive than Hyundai. Love the dual screen side by side look and that it’s fully loaded with more features than most other compact SUVs. Blows away the competition besides maybe reliability but at least they also have a decent warranty. You’d have to keep it til the wheels fell off though to be worth it. Depreciation is still high on Korean cars.

They’ve just released this here in Australia just recently and it’s far better than any other car in it’s class. I drove it and honestly I wouldn’t pay the $50,000 more you have to pay to buy one of the German Big 3 here in Australia. (Mind you here in Australia, Kia and Hyundai do their own local suspension tuning so it’s setup perfectly for Australia and that maybe why it drives so good). Only things lacking are a bigger motor like the CX-5 Turbo and Escape and from what I’ve seen it looks like they may have given too much rear leg space that it’s now impacting the boot and it doesn’t have sliding or reclining rear seats.

The Kia Sportage sold in the US certainly did have its share of problems. In some cases, the engine failures were traced to a faulty batch of engine bearings, in others, a leaking oil sump was blamed for allowing too much oil to escape, leading to oil starvation which destroyed the whole engine.

It has the updated LEDs that the 2022 Stinger GT-Line specifically has, but also has the heartbeat at the ends, except it doesn't light up & is just an alloy material, it's subtle though, because it has an amber turn signal right below, however if you black it out, it's more prominent.

Can someone please explain to this guy the concept of head room and panoramic sunroof. He keeps talking about there being enough headroom even with the sunroof. The glass roof DOES NOOOOOOOOOOOT intrude into the headroom. There is no insulation or intrusion into the head space of the back seat. The old line about back seats having LESS headroom when the car is equipped with a sunroof was because 40 years ago, they didn't have electric sunroofs that retracted over top and outside the vehicle like they do regularly now. They all used to retract INTO the roof line, which meant that the back seat head room was often less than when there was no sunroof. That is not true anymore. It's not a difficult thing to understand. Zonk

I was shopping for 2022 SX Turbo but started my search too late in the model year to find what I wanted so I started researching this '23 year model and will now wait, as it is head and shoulders above the '22 yr model. All that remains is what engines/equipment will be available. I hope the SX turbo will still be available. I looked long and hard at the PHEV but decided I would rather have the turbo, gas mileage isn't as important as I only put on 5k miles a year max. The first quarter of '22 starts today, so bring that thing on, I'm ready to order, the sooner the better..

This particular model isn't exactly the best to compare the new cx50. The X Pro off road model is the better comparison.

Agreed. Mazda vehicles are the best looking in the car business. The CX-50 raise the bar even higher.

Just bought my 2023 kia Sportage ex after owning Hondas all of my life. I am still nervous, but so far, I love it. However, I do not have the heated steering wheel, sunroof, or push button cargo hatch door. Im not sure why, so that disappointments me. If they are important to you, keep that in mind. So far, I love it. It drives and rides very well. Handles well on the roads . im praying it holds up to its warranty and quality standards of 10 yrs/100,000 miles. I plan on keeping it for the long haul!

I listen to a lot of these reviews and want to know about what I think is important. I love the BMV, the Blind Spot monitor system . It seems like the best thing they have going for them. The TV screen that makes it work is all one unit, no bulbs to burn out, no gauges to go bad, no hands, springs or dials to fall off or fade in color. Easy to replace and fix I think this is their best feature and most spend 5 seconds on it. The little lady from the Kia land videos spends less time on it and says she would probably never use it because she likes to look and check instead :) I need that, and the Adaptive Speed control that matches the speed of the car in front of you. It is the most annoying thing IO do while long distance driving, constantly adjusting my speed control. If I had a self parking car I would never sit and wait for it to do it, they take too long. I had a Mazda truck years ago and the thing I hated about it was that it wound out the engine when you accelerated with such a whine it drove me nuts like it was everything it had. It did that on every small hill on the freeway and would shift down 2 gears and just take off like a bat out of hell. It was very annoying and it felt like it was getting gallons per mile instead of vice versa. If I drive one of these and it's like that, it will be a no go. People like this guy, that spend all this time admiring little pieces of plastic and comparing the cars to BMW's and Range Rover's are wasting my time. I would look at the full frame of a car and just say "that looks nice." and move on. But I guess the dealers love it and that's who hire them.

"The Sportage Hybrid uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder paired with a 44 kW permanent magnet electric motor, which draws juice from a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion battery. The combined 226 horsepower is routed through a six-speed automatic, just like in the Tucson.
    ******************
This is a quote from the Nov.17 issue of Car and Driver for the upcoming 2023 Kia Sportage. This does not jibe with what was reported in this review as I understand it. Would you care to comment on this? Nicely done review, but would appreciate a clarification.
This is an outstanding looking unit with head-turning looks and features. It makes my 2019 CR-V Touring look antiquated. I was interested in the, apparently, similarly equipped mechanically 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid in N.E. Wisconsin, but they just aren't in stock and dealers don't know when or if they might be in stock. Some of the dealers are chumming the waters and playing games. Based on the stunning looks and features of this 2023 Kia Sportage, I may just ditch my plans for the 22 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and wait for this Sportage to come onto the scene.
I became so obsessed with the HYBRID version that I didn't realize you were not reviewing the Hybrid version. Sorry!

Looks are only skin deep folks. GDI engines are notorious for carbon buildup so unless they introduce an engine with port injection to keep those intake valves clean I’ll not even consider this vehicle. And I sure do hope they have resolved the crank case bearing issue with these vehicles which resulted with many suddenly shutting down and or catching fire. To avoid repairing all these vehicles they were installing knock sensors to alert the driver when the bearings were about to go which is ludicrous.I believe there’s a class action suit against Kia and Hyundai as this affected various model lines since I believe 2017.
