I think the reason everyone hypes the Fade to Black solo isnt actually cause of the solo itself but cause the awesome rhythm the solo is playing to. It's got the great melody and feels going on

this 100%. many solos are good on their own, but in the context of a song, an amazing solo imo is one that takes the rhythm and enhances/builds on to it. in that aspect, the FtB solo succeeds incredibly well. it’s not the flashiest or most insane solo, but it’s melancholy and solemn, fitting the mood perfectly.

That solo is, in my opinion, the pinnacle and magnum opus of Dime and everything he represented, and his best solo in general. I've always said it like this: The 10s solo is so eerily human you can almost hear words, and yet so powerful you don't need them to understand it. If you like the 10s solo, I highly HIGHLY recommend you look up the isolated version of it. It's haunting, that is all that can be said.

The solo, OTOH, Mike himself said in an interview (don't ask me where, this was a million years ago, probably in Guitar World or something) that he pretty much straight ripped that solo off from an Ace Frehley solo. I'm glad someone gave a shout out to Jerry Cantrell! Never has he put out a flashy and crazy solo, but that's not even necessary within the context of his music. I agree with you about how his solos generally fit the song like a glove. He has great phrasing, excellent note choices and lots of emotions. Jerry is in my top 10 favorite guitarists/songwriters.

Couldn’t agree more. Jerry’s solo are textbook in terms of how they support the song. They regularly use repetition but with enough variation to keep it interesting. Man, the only thing I disagree on is Highway Star. That was one of the first hard rock guitar solos ever made (1972), and one of the first that I can recall to use harmonies as well, two years before Queen 1 came out. It was a total pioneer of epic proportions to what was about to come in the next 50+ years. Also the dueling solos with Jon Lord on a distorted hammond. I've seen Walsh play it tons of times live, and he throws some extra stuff in that sounds even better than the record.
