Leonid is a pure musical genius. I saw Leonid and friends performing live in Patchogue NY, and it was awesome. His ability to deconstruct a song and then teach the performers each part is mind boggling in addition to his spot in bass playing. Can’t wait to see them again!
I am very glad to see Leonid & Roman Vorobyev of Leonid & Friends get this recognition. I think we need Leonid to be a Musical Ambassador from Russia to the U.S.A.. He already is one!
Why haven't they said a word about their former bandmates, the Ukrainians who have stayed home to defend their homeland, ... while the Russian LAF boys and girls travel the world without a care? LAF can't claim to not be political ... their merch store was awash with Trump paraphernalia just a few years ago. It's easy to claim to be "ambassadors of peace" - but it's hard to actually achieve such status, vs. simply being cowardly and failing to address it at all. They're GREAT musicians and I love their musicianship. But that's about it, ad they refuse to say a single word of empathy for their Ukrainian brethren.
Never give up on your dreams. Dreams do come true. This fantastic band is more than a band. They are family The love we all share as fans is now our extended family. If you like their awesome TH-cam videos then you MUST see this band live. Phenomenal! I saw Chicago live at their peak in 1971 and seeing this incredible band brought me back there. Even as a student, Leonid was blessed with some innate music talent. He could break down and transcribe what he heard. But it required determination and dedication and people skills to form his first band. He used those skills and abilities throughout his life. When he retired, he sort of went back to the beginning, and gave himself permission to do what he loved. What an inspiring story. I am a huge fan of Leonid & Friends.Have a listen to their music, it is wonderful!
Yes Regina, all you say is correct. I'm just going to add that seeing the band live brings a whole new joy. At first I thought the name "Leonid & Friends" was kind of lame. But seeing them interact with each other, I realized they are exactly that: eleven friends. And by the end of the first concert I saw I (gently) rushed the stage with about forty other people because we all now felt like friends of the band. I'll be seeing them again in Jacksonville Florida in May; my third time seeing the group. Can't wait!
I'm 66, and I bought my first bass 6 months ago. I always wanted to play bass, so I'm motivated to fulfill this lifelong desire. If I can pick up and play some bass covers somewhat decently, I'll consider this quest a success.

The band Chicago played these tunes this well ONE TIME -- these guys do it EVERY TIME. If you attended a Chicago concert in the '70s, you know what I'm saying .. These guys are KILLing it, every time they take the stage! Kudos!

l love leonid and friends, but better than original? they have the Chicago tracks down no doubt, and I haven't seen Leonid live. but the original Chicago before the late great terry kath died, wrote , and originally performed these songs. sure live performances were not exactly like the studio version, but the improvised performances from 1970 to 1974 were amazing. maybe Leonid plays the songs perfectly every night, but not better than original.

A lifelong Chicago fan I stumbled upon Leonid while on You Tube. First immediate observation was how talented his band is, Chicago is a difficult band to cover, these guys crush it. Second, it reconnected me to my youth through this music that was so important to me 40-50 years ago but perhaps largely forgotten. His story is inspirational.

I have been listening to Leonid and Friends for over one year - initially hearing his TH-cam videos while I was living in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Upon my return to the USA I had the wonderful privilege of meeting Leonid and seeing his band perform in Columbia, Tennessee. They were absolutely wonderful ! I continue to enjoy many of their TH-cam videos..

I like how you recognize how your life's experiences made you particularly suited for this task, and how at age 60 is the perfect time to find what one's own personal experiences lead us to. This is a very important message, especially toward the younger generations - in their 30's & 40's. I was 51 years old when I had come up with a "plot" for a story, but had never published page one of anything. I had no idea how to go about it. I had many drafts of this story, revising it, yet knowing nothing about how to get this story in print. I turned 70 years old this past year, and amazingly, I found a way to do it, found a writing tool which formatted my writings, and now, my thoughts are in print form. It takes time to make one's dreams to come true, but what else do you have but time? Don't let the petty stuff disturb you. When the time is right, it will happen! Believe in yourself!

Mick, Could not agree more that Street Player is a masterpiece. Having Sergey in the studio I think is a big plus too. Ksenia lights(it's subtle level higher than her regular perfection) up in this song too, but Arturo's solo is just spectacular. There are no weak links at all. and Javad on the sticks wow! Looking to see them as soon as they come west.

Leonid, I became a fan of you and your band a couple of years back, and I'm also a musician who can draw a number of parallels between your life experience and mine (except for the musical excellence, hahaha). You have been such an inspiration to many of us, older folks who still dream of a better world, and believe music is a wonderful vehicle to achieve that. I am forever grateful for that.
Music reslly is a universal language. Case n points , Leonid n friends who have english language as not their mother toungue were able to do renditions of american music bands.. it’s a replicate really. Hope you tour here in Orange County , Ca when things go back to normal.

They didn’t know English, had no music transcripts; these were difficult hurdles to overcome. I LOVE his spirit! Seek out his composition: A Speck of Dust, and also, an old Elvis song called Blue Eyes, which Leonid sings beautifully.

I try to catch this band when they come to the USA. They will be here soon having been postponed because of COVID. They are amazing, especially when you realize what they have done; none of them spoke English at the time, and forming the words was difficult for some of them.
If you haven’t already seen them in concert , make sure you go when they come back ! You’ll smile for about ohhhhh a year ! Saw them twice ! Gonna see them as many times as possible when they come back !,

I'm still pursuing my dreams at 68. The project will be completed this year and its music that people over 50 will enjoy. They are timeless tunes.
