- HI FRIENDS! In this video I am headed to the Pro Drum shop. Or as we call it affectionately "Pro Drum" - The shop is iconic for all drummers in Los Angeles and to a big extent...around the world. Historically drummers would come in to the shop just to hang! Meet each other and make contacts, friendships and of course get items they need for their kits.
I am taking you to meet the owner of the shop "Stan the Man" as I call him hahaha. He is a super nice cat and someone all drummers hold much affection for.
This is the shop where I bought my first drum kit! Its very nice to walk into a place and feel like it is a deep part of your life! So lets go to the Pro Drum Shop!!

Congratulations on getting out of California. I spent my first 53 years in southern Calif. and escaped to Savannah, Georgia 17 yrs ago. I'm a lifer, too. I have loved the drums since I was a kid (I'm 70 now), and still spend time on my Slingerland Buddy Rich set everyday. Have a fun and productive time in Asia! By the way, I've always been puzzled by that BR Slingerland you showed us, because I'm sure that is a Ludwig tom mount.

Many happy memories from the Pro Drum Shop. I remember seeing you Phil here at the drum shop doing a casual drum clinic, it was too crowded so I left, but I should have stayed anyway! I've seen Peter Erskine and Marvin "Smitty" Smith here also. I even got to ask Marvin a question that was bugging me, and he gave me the perfect answer...so cool. I've seen Stan & the guys eating lunch here also...Astro Burger all the way baby!!

Yeah, Pro Drum Shop in Astro Burger what a great combination I used to go shopping at Pro Drum and hang out and then when I leave there, I’ll go around the corner by the movie studio to Astro Burger and I used to stuff myself silly bacon, cheeseburgers, the tacos, fries the chili cheese dogs What a great place…. Astro Burger plus professional Drum Shop equals heaven. Now I’m sitting here in Akron Ohio where there’s none of this and it’s kind of depressing. It’s snowing now and it’s 31° on a Sunday morning what a drag but at least I got the memories of those two places I must’ve put on somany pounds eating at Astro!…. I will return!

Great tour of a great shop. I live in Ventura and sometimes work in Beverly Hills and will slide over just to soak up the whole vibe at Pro Drum shop. I surf and have been to Bali a few times. It’s sooo beautiful there, both it’s people and it’s landscape. Ubud seemed to have a decent music scene and not as hectic as Kuta. Great native percussion with the gamelans, gongs and all. There’s a saying that is very true ; “ You don’t get into Bali, Bali gets into you. “ Island of the gods. God bless your new venture.
Yeah bro its amazing here. Just had my first full day of organizing things. Cant wait to settle in a little and get things moving. Lots of video coming. Haha. Its like a new video everywhere you turn here. :)
I’ve been going to Pro Drum since 1965 when I first started drumming .…..when Bob Yager, who started the shop ran it! (He taught me so much about drums and drumming)! was around. I love Bob and he loved me and Stan and Jerry and the rest of the crew in 2024 the same thing that shop is not just a drum shop it’s an institution, let me repeat that it’s an INSTITUTION!!!It should be put on the list of California registered historical sites. That’s what I believe….. Neal Sausen!!!

Love Pro Drum! BTW, I used to play a lot of gamelan. See if Gamelan Çudamani are doing any performances when you're in Indonesia. They're pretty much the best of the best.

My greatest regret when i was in LA in 2010 I never got to the proffesional drum shop. 😥What an iconic place....and old school vibe that’s so sadly lacking in a lot of music shops today, btw I’m an Australian an I can assure you, you will love Bali having been there 9 times, it’s very close for us to get too.enjoy your time there and thank you for this wonderful video of such a fabulous place. 👍
Hi Scott! Man what a bummer you didnt get to hang at the shop! Well I think it will be around for a long time so sooner or later hopefully you can swing by :-) About Bali yes...I was there for 6 months before the pandemic hit and i had to make a hasty retreat. I love it there too ! But this time I am trying to organize events in Australia etc so please keep in touch!
I just bought a slingerland brass snare from L,A,. that has a bottom reso,snare side head from this famous shop.
Ahhhh yes! Buy another and keep that one on your wall in your drum studio!
