Danny is great. Saw him several times in the 80's w Pat Metheny and it blew my doors off. More than a decade later I approached him at the Namm show and told him how I saw him as a kid and he was super gracious, very friendly.
He’s not underrated. He’s regarded as a great drummer. He just isn’t talked about that much because he keeps a relatively low profile so many people aren’t aware of him. Like peter erskine. One of the greats that nobody talks about.
Thanks for sharing this. I took lessons from Joe Morello for 2 years in the 90s and this brought back some great memories of my time with him. I also met Danny once at Glenn Weber's Percussion Institute where Joe hosted his lessons. Joe told me Danny was his longest standing student and like a son to him. In my opinion he really mastered Joe's technique and style while also creating his own style and approach. Truly a legendary drummer!

Extrem musikalischer Drummer IMHO.
Big fan since I found u with Pat Matheney on 1st group album. Nod to KRE AM, Berkeley; y'all were most requested that year! Saw band few times; lovd it all! Thanx!
You're welcome Uka. Unfortunately I don't have the second volume, if I found a good copy I'll post it. I'm also looking for Joe Morello and Danny Gottlieb - Natural Drumming volumes 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6.
@@adriancapili5752 Sorry, I don't have those you mentioned but I still do have some VHS which I'll digitalize soon some Buddy Rich Tribute in Vegas and Fred Gruber and Bob Moses clinics from PAS. I'll let you know. Thank you for all your posts!
Danny is a great drummer. He has incredible hands and he's even better today than he was here. His work with The Pat Metheny Group is iconic, especially his cymbal work. But there's a special talent to teaching, Gary Chaffee, Alan Dawson, John Reilly, Gary Burton and the classics like Ted Reed, Lawrence Stone and Jim Chapin come to mind. It's funny because I always thought Mel Lewis was a shitty teacher and the same for Joe Morello. But what do I know. I'm just another shitty drummer.
It's his technique. No, seriously. I don't have half the hands (not the arms!) he has but lately I've feeling comfortable with playing with 2Bs very related - it's kind of the weight of the stick does the job for you, compared to lighter sticks where you have to "throw" the stick. For example go check Marco Pitruzzella, who is known for playing ridiculous fast blast beats for death metal - he says heavier sticks ease his job.
Watched several times never gets old
Fantastic chops, time, phrasing..

Unbelievable doubles. Always loved his work with Pat Metheny Group.
Thanks so much for sharing! Forgot about this video. Mr. Gottlieb is such an underrated drummer. Those hands! 🙂
What’s his rating?
100% agree ...! And : what a drum sound ...!!
Very, very underrated.

@@petercontarino646Yes, they are both great.

Drum duet was on fire!
Damn how incredibly fast he is! Great video.
Wow. His diddles and flaming flams are incredible
loved this VHS back in the day - nice to see it again !
This is a very special vid..
A musical instrument should be like a blank canvas to an artist.
THANK YOU FORGOT ABOUT DANNY🥁🥁🥁❤️❤️❤️
Nice guy, incredible technique this tripletes in one hand, the Morello Method is the best,it incoaperates all aspects of perfect technique.
Thanks for posting Adrian! I used to have both VHS but unfortunately got damaged. :( Do you happen to have the 2nd volume? Thank you!

This the first time I've seen this Danny, Hope you are well! Say hi if your come up to NH! Glick
Ludwig Drums ❤
..hands, feet, ears, mind!
I have this VHS at home!
Danny's got Buddy Rich chops! Hate the sound of those drums and cymbals, though he can play on a carboard box and sound killing.
Nice chops! What is he up in 2024?
Turns out Chris Moltisanti is a damn good drummer.

Super! Thank you.
2:30 like walking on water
Is it just me, or do those sticks look big and heavy? How is he playing like that with heavy sticks??🥁🤔🤨

with Joe morello
38:00 THE BEST PROFESSIONAL SHUFFLE EXPERIENCE ❓️👍👀
Why did Joe switch from Ludwig to DW…?
Ludwig stopped making drums that sounded like Ludwig drums in late 80s and 90s
Ahwsome 2:50
36:00 😶🤫
Joe Morello is better !
💤😴
Joe Morello's top student.
BTW, Morello was second to Buddy as the greatest drummer ever.
