I am a recent convert to calf heads, and I will never go back to plastic. I love your point about bearing edges. Everyone drones on about BEARING EDGES now, and I wondered why you never heard Krupa, or Elvin, or any of the old great drummers even mention them, to the best of my research.

No wonder early drummers didn't change their drumheads unless they were torn or split. :-) I remember playing on calfskin heads but I never had to put the head on the flesh hoop.

wow, haven't been there for about 35 years, and your were "old school" then ! Good to see !
Speaking of "old school", I still like calf skin drum heads ! Glad you can still get them.

Fascinating! Very cool to see the old world process. Hopefully this sparks more people wanting to at least try calf heads - totally different world when I tried one! Thanks Stan and Tom!

Very cool I live in North Georgia wish I had a drum shop like this to visit. All the drummers on the West Coast don't know how good you have it these guys probably did a drumhead for Johnny Carson🤘✌ LOL

Fantastic video!! This info is pure gold Stan!! You make it look easy. I'm predicting in 5 years this video will have at least 50 views. Perfect timing too, I'm makin' pizza from scratch tonight. For a tight tuck ya gotta take me out a few times first. Should I go on? LOL!! You're the best.

Excellent video! Question: If a drummer goes to calfskin on the batter head, should he go to calfskin on the reso head as well? Thank you.

Why not use the rough side of that head on top as the playing side? Will that not be better for playing brushes? I've got recently a kangaroo head and for me is too smooth so I am looking for more textured skin. Is there anyone with that experience? Thanks.

How much extra to put some sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions and peppers on there?

The benefit of calfskin ? It doesn't sound like PLASTIC ! No contest.
