The "VERY BEST" of Rivington MTB - A guided route

- Join us (Me, the Wife and Hugo the trail hound) on a guided ride of our local riding spot - Rivington Moor.
This is our very best of Rivington ride complete with links to Trailforks and Garmin routes in the description below.
The route starts from Lower house car park, which is a good size but does fill up quick at the weekends. We then climb up to Rivington pike for our first descent before doing the longest ascent to the TV mast on winter hill for a fantastic long and fast descent a towards Belmont known as "San Marino".
We then climb back up that descent for the last of the open moor descents before completing no less than 5 relatively short but super fun and techy descents in the lower woods on the west side of the moor.
The higher moor tracks (tracks 1-3) are rideable all year but the lower tracks shouldn’t be ridden in wet and wintery conditions as the tracks erode very quickly.
Some of the tracks are “cheeky” but well published on strava and trailforks heatmaps so not exactly secret.
As ever, please be mindful and kind to other moor users.
I would grade most of these tracks as intermediate to advanced for experienced mountain bike riders. I will do a Rivington or beginner riders edit soon.
I hope you enjoy the edit and thanks for watching.
I would greatly appreciate your comments and please like and subscribe as it really does make all the filming and editing worthwhile.

This is basically my backyard. And that "Pike Cafe" you stropped at used to be my Uncle's place when I grew up. Going up there in the middle of winter was an experience as a kid. I love the place I knew every single bit of your video and locations 😂 Great guide btw 👍
Cheers dude! Much appreciated! 👍
Hugo must have been knackered😂🐕
He was very chill that afternoon 😂
Great video and riding keep it up 👍🏻
Thanks Matt, that’s very kind! Thanks for watching and for the appreciation!! 🙏
Great video..... my local area but as a beginner ish rider when i have seen people using these trials i've been unsure whether to try them. Videos like this that give you a preview and show you some lines give you an idea what you can try and take on next time your out. Thanks for posting!
Pleasure Gary! That’s what it’s all about. Thanks for the watch like and comment sir! 👍
Realised I've ridden Golfie more times than rivi my local in last 12mths 🤣 reminds me I should go soon....👍
As long as you realise how lucky you’ve been to be riding golfie that much, then it’s no sin! Rivvy is riding super well at the moment though👍
Cracking vid! Local here 👋🏻 Great to see!
Thanks Chris! We appreciate you! 👍
It's very much my local. Love them trails 👌🏻
It’s a great spot isn’t it! Shame most of the tech tracks start getting un-rideable at this time of year.
@@MindfulTrailBiker yeah, water and wet roots don't help but it's better laugh when someone falls 😂
The trails of the pigeon tower every year look different. In winter time it gets very muddy and people go around it so when it dries the trails change. You'll see chicken lines and bypasses but after some time it gets back to normal
Great video we ride a lot up here there are a few gems that didn’t feature although you had a pretty good selection, if you visit again, there is a great run down the river edge a bit further past special k which then comes in near bottom of special k, you obviously know ice cream run most fun at night in the rain, there’s a few good runs in Wilderswood, and the sheep huts run is okay despite gates having been put in. Keep up good work.
Thank you very much!! We definitely had a few arguments about which tracks to include in this edit and we will probably record a part 2 edit to feature the ones we missed. Love the track next to special K with the boardwalk and nice drop at the end, I got overruled by the missus as she like the OG special K best. Wilderswood traditional with the roots is again a great track. There is also more around the pigeon tower, all these will feature on. the part 2 edit. Thanks for watching and for getting involved bye commenting!
RIdden all of these it's my local area living at the bottom of the hill near the Beehive roundabout. Great video have subscribed and look forward to watching your other ones. If you've done anything up Whinlatter be good I've not long got a VW Transporter and I'm heading their soonish and staying over. Go out on my own so I've picked up routes off others from videos like yours and few chats had up at the Pike cafe over the last few years. I do struggle route wise a bit over Great Hill when I come off the obvious flagged bit to find routes that I can deal with, last time ended up in the middle of nowhere losing a trail. Any over that way I'll be watching keenly.
Hi there! Thank you for the kind comments. We appreciate it.
Check out the grisedale pike video, that is a route that uses the trail
Centre red trail but adds a natural loop taking in grisedale pike (nowhere near grizedale forest btw). That’s a good route but the trail centre red is one of the best in the Uk.
Easy enough to get lost and find unrideavle trials on great hill, especially in winter.

Great video. I've just ordered a used mountain bike. I don't live far from there but my fitness levels are not the best. I'd really like to get into mountain biking. I need a new hobby. A healthy one 😊
Hey there, Thank you very much for watching and appreciating the edit! Where do you live? We're in the wigan area.
I live in Bolton.
@@owenrobert1333 give us a shout when you get your bike, see if we can plot an beginner route for you! 👍
Thank you 👍
Nice videos, only just come across your channel as an local to Rivi and done abit of trail work up there, shame about it all being felled at some stage😢
It’s such a shame, The tracks on that side are great, I think the track with the boardwalk drop will feature in the best of Rivvy part 2. Thanks for watching and off course for your work on the trails.
Great video as always mate! Always climb into bed after nights and have a watch. How you getting on with the new bike now?
Morning Pete. Thank you very much!! We are delighted that the contents being well received. Im slowly getting to drips with it. looks some volume reducers out of the shock last night and went for a spin to Haigh hall and I think it could have made improvements im looking for. I think any issue is suspension related. I would argue for most of the rides ive done so far, the Bronson was the better bike though im sure once the nomad is dialled in I will start riding it a bit harder. It doesn’t feel like it soaks up the chop as well as it should so its defo suspension set up related. It’s already a progressive suspension curve and the shock came with some huge volume spacers in as standard. a work in progress but im starting to enjoy the process more now.
