Rivington MTB - So good, I rode it twice!!

- Join me as I make the most of the only dry day in July 2023 and ride higher Rivington Moor in the morning with my pal, Big Al and Hugo the trail hound, then back for some evening laps on the lower tracks with the better half.
Rivington is looking particularly beautiful in the evening sun , I hope it comes across in the edit!
Today's chat is focusing on the story of having our bikes stolen and serves as a friendly warning to the MTB community to do all you can to secure your pride and joy. It’s much cheaper and far less stressful to improve your security than it is to replace your bikes, even if the insurance covers the cost. We were without bikes for approx 2-3 weeks which is a long time for us especially when it's your main catalyst for mental wellbeing. You will also not realise how much time you have put into perfecting your setup and this is an added inconvenience even if you enjoy the process.
I also give some initial thoughts on the Santa Cruz Nomad V6 MX wheel Vs the Santa Cruz Bronson Mx wheel that I loved and owned for approx 2 years.
So far i'm finding them fairly close in performance which for me is great as we do more pedalling than shuttling and im finding it fine for our usual 3-4 hour rides.
I changed the stock Rockshox super deluxe shock for an Öhlins TTX2 Air and im still dialling the suspension in, but so far the bike is super quiet, very plush but also keen to be thrown into tight corners so its certainly showing the characteristics you would hope for in a Mx wheel set up.

Well actually.. I have just bought an E-bike 🤣 I do intend to ride both though in fairness.
Rubbish that your bike’s got stolen, disgusting!! My dad had his Bike stolen from his Garage, needless to say they won’t get in again. And I had my house broken into while me, the Mrs and Kids were in bed, scumbags looking for the keys to my Golf Gti, was heartbroken, they didn’t get the car but just the thought of people rummaging round my house while we were all asleep was scary! And again we beefed up security and hopefully can’t happen again. Great video this!
It’s a horrendous feeling Danny and it last for months. Constant high alert! I can completely imagine how much worse it would have been knowing they had been in your house.
Were the same now, security beefed up and more vigilant for sure. I’ve no personal profile on Facebook anymore, they can get too much info from your profile, cover photos etc. cheers dude!
@@MindfulTrailBikerI don’t have any social media at all, just literally have my You Tube channel and that’s it, never had any social media accounts. Yeah very scary knowing they’ve been in your house. It was only mid November last year, and yeah you don’t forget it for a good while.
Do you post your routes anywhere? As I’m fairly new to the area and trying to work out where’s best to ride. Looks great from your vids

Mate I’m absolutely gutted for you both. Makes me so mad does theft. Great to see it hasn’t taken your enthusiasm to ride and post content. I tried the brew co tap yesterday too. Food and beer was superb. As always a great watch!

Great video mate well done, i feel for you mate ive had bikes nicked in the past both motorbikes and mountain bikes. I'm only in Chorley so i really need to get my arse in gear and get upto Rivi and get to learn some of those tracks
Thank you for the kind words, much appreciated. It was a horrendous experience from start to finish, I was so well bonded with the old bike, it was like having an old friend stolen! yes, the trails around Rivington are fab, Healey nab is worth a look as well.
@@MindfulTrailBiker Thanks buddy ive hit Healey a few times on my old Reign 26er it was great but i think the longer trails Rivi will be a great test ground for my newer Trance which started life as a 2017 trance 4 but has been modded a lot now, just need to change that rear shock. Great vid mate well done, I really hope whoever had yours and your wifes bike off gets a rather bad taste of something not so nice
@@PmatWolf oh yes, the trance will love Rivington for sure. The long run from the mast down to Belmont will be a hoot on that bike for sure!! Enjoy!

@@PmatWolf We have, we don’t ride it anywhere near as much as Rivington and we find the walkers to be a bit less tolerant over that side. Brinscall woods can be fun when it’s not too busy as well. I think we are doing a monster loop edit soon with rivvy, Daren and great hill into white coppice. that should be fun

Which did you prefer? I’m guessing you didn’t pedal the DH bike to the top?
