Dr. Brian May (now SIR Brian May): Lead guitar/back up vocals/piano sometimes. Dr of Astrophysics. Studied reflected light from interplanetary dust and the velocity of dust in the plane of the Solar System. Has worked with NASA. Made his guitar with his father when he was around 16/17. Was poor so used things around the house like a piece of a fireplace for the neck/mother’s buttons/knitting needle etc. It's called "The Red Special" Still plays it to this day.
Roger Taylor: Drums/Amazing back up vocals. Has a BS in biology. Still rocking with Brian to this day.
John Deacon: Bass guitar. Degree in Electronics. Inverter of the Deacy amp (which Brian uses to this day) Sadly John had a bit of a breakdown after Freddie's death and only performed with the rest of the band a 3 times after. He is, these days, only involved in the financial side through his attorney. He's been pretty much a recluse.
And of course Freddie: Degree in Graphic design. Google "best rock front man of all time" I can save you the trouble. Most places the #1 answer is Freddie.
Every member has written hit songs.
All but John had singing talent where they could have had their own bands and been a success. Put them all together and you have QUEEN! (also all but John have done solo albums)
Remember. NO auto tune. No tricks. Pure talent!
You can't put Queen in a box as far as genre. There is no box!
Strongly suggest a ballad from very early Queen (one of my fav's of theirs) White Queen (A Night At The Odeon - Hammersmith 1975)
For more rock I'd suggest "Don't Stop me now" (official)

Who Wants to Live Forever from their Budapest show is supernaturally amazing. Live-aid and White Queen live from Hammersmith Odeon are must-see as well. Love the content, keep the Queen coming! Also - side note - you'll notice that Brian May starts out on the piano, then switches to guitar mid-song and Freddie takes over on the piano.

and not forgetting the Hyde Park Festival 2017.
Shortly before Green Day took the stage, 65,000 fans loudly sang Bohemian Rhapsody. I'm talking about the entire track and not just the chorus.
Queen herself had reacted to this. green Day uploaded the entire recording to their official channel.

@@angelaedgington-pk8si Wow! Were you not watching the video? Brian often plays piano. Freddie plays guitar. John plays piano, bass guitar and drums. Roger plays guitar and drums. They are versatile and they all write songs. They're all great musicians and that's why Queen's repertoire is so varied.

When you do the Live Aid concert, pick the one that is a little longer and opens with the comedic cops because it is the best video. The shorter one cuts off right before the end and is so disappointing. I love this song, written by Brian who starts out on the piano with his guitar on his lap then when the guitar part kicks in he leaves the piano and Freddie takes over. What a talented group of men make up this band. Brian said he wrote this song for Freddie but he didn't admit to that until after Freddie's death. Before that he said he wrote it about a friend who was going through a difficult divorce or break up. Freddie was a very private person so Brian didn't tip his hand. The story of the mic stand is that during a performance one time the mick stand broke away from the base but Freddie being a pro, he continued as though nothing had happened. He decided he like the freedom of being able to move around so he kept the detached mic stand which he actually uses as a prop for air guitar and other antics. This became Freddie's signature. When cordless mics became a thing, Freddie said he really missed the cord as well but he did keep the stand. Thank you for your reactions.

Of course Freddie's vocals are amazing as always ... but to me the stand-out thing I took away from it is the fact that Brian May plays the piano beautifully (a different flavor of piano playing than Freddie's, but lovely) -- then he jumps up to play guitar and Freddie takes over the ivories

Like many bands, not all of Queen's songs are fast upbeat and rocking. You're My Best Friend (written by the bassist John Deacon) and Sail Away Sweet Sister (written by the guitarist Brian May) are perfect examples of that.
Sail Away Sweet Sister - Freddie sings the middle eight of the song, while Brian sings the verses and choruses. The song finds a young lady coming of age and leaving the nest.

Some live show suggestions, Milton Keynes 1982, even better version of Somebody to Love, Hammersmith 1975 White Queen, The Rainbow 1974 several including Father to Son, Son and Daughter, Liar, Stone Cold Crazy, Killer Queen medley, and try looking at how they start their shows, including Montreal, they were the masters at 'getting your attention'. The drummer Roger Taylor summed up their approach to live shows as 'Blind and deafen them in the first 10 minutes and send them home screaming for more'. And believe me they were louder than most, my ears were usually ringing for a few days after their shows.

The story behind his half-mic stand began when Freddie was back in college and was then in a group called Wreckage. The group was like a lot of groups just starting out and were lucky to have any equipment much less backups.
One night when Freddie was singing he went to pull the mic off of the stand and it was stuck. While he continued to sing, he pulled and pulled and pulled until he pulled so hard that the two tubes that make up the stand separated but the mic itself remained stuck. Freddie continued to perform the rest of the show with half of the mic stand attached to the mic.
Strangely enough, he found he liked the mic with half the stand attached. It gave him something to fiddle with while performing. From that performance on, he continued to use the half-mic stand mic and it became one of his trademarks.

The reason for the partial mic, when they first started out playing small bars and venues, Freddie had trouble adjusting the stand to his height and while doing so, the mic stand broke. He's been using that way ever since. If you watch the Queen biopic movie Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), it shows that part early in the movie.
If you decide to watch this movie, watch Live Aid FIRST as this is portrayed in the movie and you need to see the original before seeing it in the movie. Rami does an excellent job of portraying Freddie. A mouth piece was made to have a mouth more like Freddie. After the movie, Rami had it bronzed.

Really loving you guys’ Queen reactions!! This song was written by Brian May (guitar) and it’s so beautiful, while you’re still doing from Montreal I really recommend the medley of Killer Queen & I’m In Love With My Car, just so you can see a little bit more of the other members shining as well, in this case mostly Roger Taylor (drummer) who’s a great singer as well, and also if you wanna go with two classics you already know , from this concert too, it would be the big finale with We Will Rock You & We Are The Champions. The Live Aid concert is so iconic and great as an introduction to Queen but I truly think Freddie’s voice was a it’s peak here, and as far as Wembley goes there’s the 1986 concert they did which is so great as well. As I MENTIONED BEFORE you need to see the MOVIE Bohemian Rhapsody to see how he ends up with half the mic stand in his hand. It's actually accidentally and quite funny.😊 you have to understand when you have somebody as vibrant as Freddie Mercury dancing around the stage you're going to have to put in a slower song so that he can catch his breath and rest a little bit so if you don't like the song that's fine but they have to put those little bits of slower songs that he can rest. My favorite -- and by "favorite" I mean most appalled by -- is Freddie being in a drug and alcohol haze, unaware of Live Aid, kicked out the band and having to beg to be allowed to return just in the nick of time to perform at the concert. Versus the fact that Queen was on tour (The Works) until shortly before Live Aid. And when John writes "Another One Bites The Dust," Brian expresses shock that John wrote a song, never mind the multiple hits he wrote. I don’t know if you know but this concert was not part of a tour. It’s a one of. They had 2 nights in Montreal and a company was filming it to make a movie of a Queen concert. The band was not happy with the company filming because they were interfering with the band participation with the crowd which was very important to Queen. Early in his career Freddie tried to take the microphone off the stand to walk around; however he broke the stand and just continued singing with a half stand...it became his signature, like the wip of a ringmaster...his voice in Montreal was so perfect but later on he began to smoke and so his voice changed a bit ...when he found out he hwad HIV positive he stopped and could sing the high note again ...react to MADE IN HEAVEN (after live Aid) , and you will see what I mean...Freddie's doctor advised him not to do Live Aid because he had a throat infection; so it was still really good but not 100%

This is a stellar ballad in my book. SOMEBODY TO LOVE is gospel; BO-RAP is a combo of ballad, opera and rock. That "Queen feel" is their sound -- and their choice to go full throttle and approach such a range of styles makes them a stand out. I think Freddie was a big factor in that approach, but no denying each band member brought a special something that together branded any song, any style, QUEEN. When you hear Brian's solo in SAVE ME, it's not an unrelated showcase moment...it has an equally distinct voice - like a vocalist.

I feel so sad for John Deacon... I don't think there was one shot of him playing during the entire video. No wonder he became reclusive from Queen after Freddie died.

Also from Montreal 81 - "Dragon Attack". The mike stand happened by accident when the base broke away, and from then on Freddie used the mike like this as a great prop.

It’s good to find out which wrote the song because they all write. Freddie’s stand broke in half during a performance , so he just broke it off and always uses it. It’s the way he likes and has become Freddie and his mike stand. Dragon attack. He wrote a song for Mary Austin , who he dated in the early days. When they both realized he was gay, but the y remained in love through there lives. He always called her his wife. Mary eventually married , but always loved Freddie. That were best friend. Mary was there when he on his last days. Freddie love her so much ,that when died he left his home and his estate to Mary saying he loved her forever. Mary is only one who knows where his ashes are buried. Not even his family knew. I’ve rambled on so watch Love of my life. In Wembley. Now I’m here

I've got to point out that the live version is decidedly different from the recorded version. Here it's being improvised a lot and 9:20 on the recorded version is a haunting echoing synthesiser. That's why I don't like reactions of live performances, because it's not the official version, but rather a stage performance.

Well, Queen is NOT all about Freddie. They were 4 equal members.
At least show the other band members the courtesy of naming them.
John Deacon is the brilliant bass player that also wrote some of Queens great songs.
    Another One Bites the Dust
    I Want to Break Free
    You’re My Best Friend
Spread Your Wings to mention a few.
Roger Taylor is the amazing drummer and singer that wrote
    Radio Ga Ga
    A Kind of Magic
These are the Days of our Lives
And I’m in Love with my car
Brian May is the brilliant guitarist, pianist and singer that wrote
    The Show Must Go On
    Who Wants to Live Forever
    We Will Rock You
    I Want it All
And yes - also this song Save Me.
He also, together with his father, built his own guitar (which he plays on this song).
In short - Queen is first and foremost a band. They deserve to be treated as such.

3:41 Brian is a beginner piano player, he can't improvise on piano like Freddie would, so when hes finishing the memorized intro piece Brian is left hanging, because he can't come up with anything to fill the gap until Freddie comes in.
Same funny hanging occurs on "Who wants to live forever" intro is played live on keyboards by Brian...
Also Freddie was a beginner guitarist, "Crazy little thing..." guitar riff is all he can play live because he memorized just that piece.

Brian May wrote this - - and is the one who wrote most of the ballads - - but also the hard rock - - . They were all multi instrumentalists - During lockdown Roger made an album playing all the instruments himself and singing - With Jeff Beck as guest on one track. 'Outsider' is it called and he has made a record of the live performances when it was released. Brian released old material - remastered - 'Back to the Light' and 'Another World'-. A lot of fans hate the fact that Roger and Brian still tours as Queen+Adam Lambert. Some don't like Adam - some think it is blasphemy . I am glad that they still play - now in their 70's -and new generations can hear live concerts - and Roger and Brian can go on playing their music. Why should they die because Freddie died and John opted out??

I really love Live Aid for what they did. But I still think their performance a year later at Wembley was better. Live Aid was special because it was a festival that for 20 minutes turned into a Queen concert.
