With the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class now on the scene, is the BMW 3 Series still a sweet luxury sedan? Today, we test the base model 320i to see if this is enough 2022 3 Series, or whether you should get a 330i or M340i - or perhaps an Audi A4, Genesis G70, or Jaguar XE?
The 320i uses a 2.0-litre turbo petrol B48 engine making 135kW of power (181 hp) and 300Nm of torque.
As always, we don’t accept advertising from car manufacturers, and we’re powered by Budget Direct - so this is an independent, honest review of the BMW 3 Series.

I drove a Hire care for 6 days this week. I own 3 other larger luxury BMWs. The 320i was a stunning good driving experience. Plenty of space, extremely comfortable, well proportioned, but the driving experience was exceptional. I loved it. Would almost happily trade it for our daily 640i Grande Coupe. The base model is a little bit road noisy in the rear, and swap out the noisy run flat tyres ASAP!.

I have the current 330i M Sport in Dravit Grey and Cognac interior with the Vision pack and it is the best car I have owned. I agree pretty well with the reviewer’s comments particularly in regard to handling and I will often just go for a drive for the sake of it to experience it’s on road sportiness and composure. I’m not too sure of the LCI update with the new extended dash screen- the current setup is just fine.

There's an old saying that always goes around in my mind... "if people keep buying it, we're gonna keep selling it" - BMW customers seem fine with it so why bother trying harder...see how Mitsubishi is offering 10 yrs. How much does the avg, guy desire a Mitsushitsi vs. a BMW? There's your answer. About a $70k base BMW 320. I think a turbo 2.0 provides more than enough power... I think the blow thru a straw vacuum sound does nothing for me. Also i think the biggest competition these days would be a quasi luxury mid sized SUV for about the same money... most people would rather some kind of upper spec Asian SUV or even entry euro suv. In the end what kind of dynamics are ya gonna get from a base 320...

Never take a car into regional Aust without a full size tyre. This means the spare sits in the boot and if luggage space needed it is roof racks and box. Would be interested to see what how much a full size takes up space in boot, as for everyday not a huge issue. Also are the tyres tapered, front different size from rear ? That stuffs up the spare in a boot. Reviewers never seem to take this into consideration

This is the superseded model. The new model with facelift and all new interior (twin screen dashboard) is under production. Not sure when it will arrive in Australia though. Maybe mid 2023.
Reshaped (but equally-sized) ‘kidney’ grilles are flanked up front by reworked LED headlights with flipped arrow-shaped daytime-running light signatures, and sit above new air intake designs with L-shaped accents as part of the standard-fit M Sport pack.

I have a fairly mint 08' 328i sub 100k mi E90 and I am still in love with it. Such a nice design and it's not even LCI which I don't believe is that much different. Only if it was a manual but even the autos are pretty slick. These are classy cars; I like the design of the 320i.

I agree about the black, so over it. Well, not really over it, I've never liked it. Whether it's the interior or exterior, or worse, both. I just cannot understand why people like a heat sucking dark colour like this. I was checking out Honda models recently and black is the *only* interior colour they offer (exception being the upcoming new Type R which has a red interior). This lack of choice is enough for me to never consider buying one!

Are the new 3 series made in Germany or Mexico now? The SA built cars did initially appear to be lower quality. It would be a 330i in a light metallic tan and wood interior 👌. I do miss the straight six so 340i would be ideal however the price goes up further and a 5 year warranty for BMW Mini surely would improve sales

4:03 “It’s only outsold by the Tesla Model 3”, why not go off-track? The Model 3 didn’t just outsell the 3-series, it outsold the 3-series, the C-class and the A4 combined with more than 12000 versus 8000 cars delivered in 202. 70% of buyers in this C-class, 3-series, A4 segment choose the Model 3 Long Range. All-wheel drive, faster than an M3 (with Acceleration Boost) more space and fully optioned. Only brand suckered individuals with ignorance to the $2.25 a litre and maintenance costs would pick a 320i or C200. They don’t even drive significantly better.
