- Jesse Kriel and Lukhanyo Am both bring a different skill set to the Springbok set up.
Jesse Kriel is the master of defensive set up and has a keen eye for reading the game and proved at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, that he is an attacking weapon as well.
Am has arguably a better skill set and is the more creative player on attack but is just as good at reading the defense and organising the Springbok back line.
Both players are fit and playing some excellent rugby, while Kriel is currently based in Japan playing for Yokohama Canon Eagles and Am is still based in South Africa and playing for local South African franchise, the Hollywood Bet Sharks.
With the international window fast approaching, the Springboks face another selection dilemma with Kriel and Am.

Jesse on the bench. He can cover various positions and is definitly an impact player. Lukhanyo just has an x factor. Was being spoken about as the best player in the world a few years back. Can't argue with that. And he's coming back into good form.
I agree Am definitely has the xfactor, however Kriel really surprised me in the World Cup he was incredibly solid.

Both are good, if Ams on form he is the best centre and I'd pick him over Kriel, but as of today, Jesse gets the nod imo

I like Kriel but Am is just such an intelligent player with elusive skills.
If both are at their best I’d always pick Am.
I used to criticise kriel but after the last world cup I respect him more start kriel and let Am fight for the jersey like kriel had to
Both are fantastic when healthy, and both are WC winner's.
Given the size of the current player pool, I'd hope both are retained to ensure neither is over played (Am was over used before the last WC), and that they help develop the next generation (Moodie, Henco, Sascha).
If playing a very physical opposition I'd be more comfortable starting Kriel for defensive physicality and bring Am on with the bomb squad for explosive impact.
Otherwise think Am should always start, and they need to start giving opportunities to younger players.
Jesse is a world class player and team man, but Luke just has that something special which few players have

I am a big shark support so it will come across biased. If you look at Am before his injury last yr for the world cup he was not just that play maker of attack but brutal on defense. Am is just another player in a league of his own.
Then you look at Jessie. He is a high risk defender. I am yet to see him creating plays or tries on attack. Only thing he and dalende got is x factor defense. Where Am and Esterhuizen and complimentary on both aspects. Jessie should be the closer 100% Am should start setting the pass. When it is a 7-1 split I would definitely use Jessie, or Andre as a fit player, Am's fitness has to improve.

I like them both but I miss AM especially that look he always has on his face like nothing bothers him when he's chewing his gum and splitting teams open.
Lukhanyo is still the best player in the world in my opinion. Jessie's grubber to Cheslin in the France game was the highest IQ moment in the tournament, but Lukhanyo is smarter.

at the moment i would pick Jesse, but an inform AM is special player
Am is important in an attacking game as he organizes the attacking line and adds that x factor in attack while Kriel is a world class defender and even on attack he's got strength and pace to boot both match up well with de Allende

Jesse is powerhouse, Am is the vision. Depends on who the Springboks are facing to decide who to pick. I’d pick lukhanyo second half and Jesse first half so he can deain the opponents energy
Both are quality, but Am for me has more creativity, more elusiveness in the tackle, better defensive organisation and a better offloader
Based on this vid, seeing the absolute class creator and defensive lieutenant that Lukhanyo Am is, how can you not pick him..He is probably the best ever centre to play the game..Its just different gravy

Lukhanyo Am is one of the best outside centers in the world, Kriel is my second favourite, very good in defending and attacking.

We all know what Am can do, but on current form, Jesse, is the better player. Even in the URC, Am's form is questionable at the moment.
Agreed with this. Am is trying a little too hard with the magic stuff instead of focusing on getting minutes under the belt and getting the basics right.
Will take a while for him to find the type of form he had a couple of years ago.
They should both be in the squad for the 2024 internationals though.

I’d Use Jesse on the bench because he can cover many positions.
Peak Am is a no brainer. However, Kriel has been Mr consistent in the last 4 years whereas Am has been a bit of a rollercoaster. You have to pick the consistent players because it makes it easier to have a plan. You can't pick a player in hopes that he'll have a great game.
kriel was terrible in 2021 and 22 luckanyo am is better and more consistent his just been injured
I can't choose. These two players are both brilliant in their own right. But if you put a gun to my head I'd have Am start and Kriel on the bench or vise versa depending on the nature of the game.
For me I feel like Am is good on attacking while Kriel is in defense so they are both good.

No place in 23 for Jesse, or for Am if they pick Jesse.
jesse wouldn't even make my bench am in kriel out springboks are most likely gonna play attacking rugby with the new coaches they are bringing in isn't it obvious kriel can not fit into that style moodie on the bench for me he can actually play at winger and full back as well
