- Pieter Steph Du Toit and Juan Smith are both Springbok number 7’s but from different era’s.
Juan Smith was part of the Springbok team that won the 2007 Rugby World Cup and Pieter Steph part of the victorious 2019 and 2023 Springbok teams.
Both players offer a confrontational, physical game, but Pieter Steph is the more dominant player on defence and clearly executes his role very well.
Juan Smith was played interchangeably at number 7 and number 8 due to his versatility as a ball carrier but was by no means lacking any defensive abilities himself, Juan Smith took his fair share of names in the tackle as well.
Both are magnificent rugby players in their own right.

Du toit definitely the best
both titans of their eras but the modern game and the professionalism and level of training is leagues above what it was 15-20 years ago Peter Steph is the better all round player on attack and on defense but Juan Smith is no joke and hell be remembered for the 70 caps he played for the boks a true legend
Smith was only ever a good player, but Du Toit one of the Greatest players of all time.
He' even won World Player of The Year, though admittedly it's somewhat arbitrary as an award.
Imagine the two of them together 💪🏼
