The Maysles Brothers were famed documentarians who made some of the most important docs of the 20th Century - including Salesman (1969), Gimme Shelter (1970), and Grey Gardens (1975). As a documentarian, I think you would appreciate them - especially Grey Gardens, which features a great old house on Long Island that the film is named for.

This defintely feels like a great first, post-college apartment for a bunch of recent grads who are desperate for a space that can get them to their internship in Manhattan. No normal group of 6(?) people would want this place. It feels like a dorm on every level.

Not a bad apartment tour video. The bedrooms look sad, dark and depressing but still liveable as the light gives them some needed warmth and enough light to see in the room. Plus, out of them, I agree that the basement with the closet and the queen bed seems to be the best in my opinion. And hope no one would destroy those stained glass windows. Also, can someone tell me why there was a film crew there though? Not saying it was bad but just curious to know.
Edit: Forgot to mention that it is not terrible to have a darkened room to sleep as it would give a well rested sleep. Well, I heard that. But just added to the sad depressing part. But everything else is alright.
By Japanese standards, those rooms are gigantic. They have shoebox hotels over there, just close the lid and you’re in.
Im sure For 6 gs you can get fairly large apt in Japan too 😂

I feel like the Japanese filming is an advertisement for the Japanese to see how living situations are here since our dollar is devalued, the prices here are probably affordable for them, since we inflate things here so much

I lived in a renovated church in Somers, Montana....my apartment was 1600 sq feet...the Sancturary. 30 foot ceilings, choir loft, bell tower and confessional...it was awesome.

With an apartment like this, you are getting it for the experience of living in a really cool old church.....you're not going to be getting it hoping for great city views. Them rooms are tiny!!!! But all you really need. I love all the stained glass, that fantastic roof deck, all the exposed brick in the unit, that neighborhood looks great. The rooms are really dark, though. Hope you enjoy your roommates, because in the unit, most of your time will be in the common space. For the price per room, being in a great building like that, and having the apartment furnished as it is, this seems like a fantastic deal!

Looks like you've got a choice between 2 key things in those bedrooms: space or soundproofing. You can have a room big enough for a desk with 1 inch thick cabinet doors as one of your walls, or you can be surrounded by brick but barely fit a twin size bed. (edit for typo)

Blind windows with no view, bedrooms the size of prison cells, some of them separated by thin wooden walls that can hear every slightest noise, virtually no storage space - real luxury for $ 1000. As a European, I find it hard to understand that this could be considered a good deal...the only advantage is the atmosphere of the old place.
We have hotels here that a single room costs $1000 a night. Consider that.

It is no wonder that people move to my town Rio Rancho NM from NYC and buy a whole house for what a room costs there. The people I meet from NYC don`t complain about the high rent as much they complain about it being just too cold there and it hurts their bones after a while.

Rectories are so common in NY because the cost of living has always been nuts 😂🤣😂 but yea going to catholic school was lit, it was like a lil compound. Just kno when more churches go out of style, I'm ready to take one off they hands 👏🏾😂
It’s dark and gloomy and actually appears like it would be quite chilly in the whole building. I couldn’t live where I can’t see outside period. Yes the stained glass is pretty but I want to look out I want to see the snow, the trees, the rain etc.. Yeah not for me.

Great building because of the architecture and history. But for my taste, rooms are much too dark. Almost no daylight and the floor plan is weird.
