    I like how people think that a 1/4” thick tool steel shaft that spins at 100,000 rpm in 1600F flames, whose turbine tips literally break the sound barrier, think that a little compressor surge is going to somehow snap it.

  • @trk9814
    @trk9814 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    If you genuinely think this impacts power or turbo life by a significant amount you dont know shit about how a turbo or wastegate works. The flutter is the impeller blades basically cutting through the unused air charge, if you measure impeller speed it does virtually nothing to the speed the turbo is spinning at. You arent running 70psi in your MQB, there will never be enough pressure coming back out the inlet to damage the impeller, shaft or blades in any significant extent. I know people who've ran dv unplugged for 200k on a single turbo without issues, i know people who've ran it plugged in for 30k before blowing a turbo. Its all circumstantial. The turbo is gonna blow up eventually, unplugging the DV isnt going to speed it up. Off throttle compressor surge is perfectly healthy, however if you're fluttering on throttle, you've got issues.

    Wow so many uninformed people in this comments section lol. Yes the diverter valve, or blow off valves extend the life if ur turbo, but by only a few yrs and also depends on how high ur boost is set. All the flutter does is bend the blades over time, and if ur running sensible boostage then u'll have time to save up for that better turbo. The only way to blow ur turbo is to exceed the boost ur turbo can handle, and that can still happen even with the diverter/blow off valve working if ur boost is way up lol....there u have been taught youngens lol.

    • @DoggyZworlD07
      @DoggyZworlD07 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Toomuch Bs wrong there buddy. The diverter valve dumps unused air when the turbo hasn't fully spooled, has nothing to with overheating lol. All the flutter does is lessen the turbochargers life span if u don't use a diverter/blow off valve. So instead if replacing the turbocharger in 10yrs time, u might have to replace it in 7 or 8 yrs time, and that depends on the boost ur running too, high boost means u'll kill the turbo quicker, which to be honest can happen even if u run the diverter valve, cos I've seen many a car in the workshop with blow off valves but need to replace thr turbo cos their running crazy 25+ psi boost. So really, if u want to keep ur turbo alive, watch ur boost lol.
