If we are LUCKY we will one day look in the mirror and see an old person! I am 59 and survived kidney cancer in 2022. That changed my perspective on aging... totally. Each day is a gift. Really.

You look fantastic. Last year, my ex girlfriend (we lived together several years) passed away from ovarian cancer. She fought cancer for 3 years. She was 64. I will soon turn 61. I've seen so many friends and acquaintances die recently in their 60's. I've decided I will continue to do the things I enjoy. I run nearly every day. I'm so much slower than I was 20 years ago. But I keep telling myself it beats the alternative. One thing I really notice, time seems to go by so fast! There are days where I'm not doing much and I can't believe it's afternoon already. I thought retirement would be boring but I'm rarely ever bored!

In my sixties I was in very bed shape- overweight, high blood pressure, always late, single mother of 3 children in college, working 7 days a week (I am physician). Now retired,73 years old, working 2 days a week. My 72 birthday I celebrated (solo) on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela (CAMINO) 310 mile walk, 26 days, not even one tablet of Tylenol . Plenty of time to think over what all of this is about. Next spring I will go back there to celebrate my 74-th.birthday to feel 25 again!

When I turned 60, I decided to give myself a six month tour of South America. Love this video. I’ll be 71 in November and I began thinking about all of the “what if’s” when I got in my late 60’s. My husband is in memory care now so I am all alone . My dog is 11. I will never adopt a puppy or kitten again because they would probably outlive me if I did. I see so many women at my husband’s place that have dementia- it scares me. I don’t have kids so would not be able to live with family if I couldn’t care for myself. I am taking really good care of myself so I hope I live into my 80’s (or 90’s) feeling good and am mobile.

Don't let fear overwhelm you. Adopt a puppy or a kitten if that's what you'd like to do. Don't let some abstract fears stop you from doing so. Learn the difference between the things you can control and those you can't. Then let go of any fears attached to those things outside of your control - like whether you will or will not be outlived by a new puppy or kitten. Live in the here-and-now, because that's all we've got. Sending you many blessings for the years ahead. 💚

I just came across you... I'm 67. The thoughts you had when you turned 60, I got last year. At 60 I started a new job so I was busy and excited about it. Thinking about my last years a lot lately. And I also think about things and say to myself "today this is a problem, but you"ll probably even miss these problems in the future." So I guess that these thoughts are universal. If I were to choose one place to visit (I have been abroad but not too much) I would definitely go back to Scotland. Love your videos! I currently work in China and previously worked in Saudi Arabia for nine years. While in Saudi Arabia, I was able to visit Egypt three times: Cairo, Luxor and then Aswan. I study architecture so I wanted to be able to take my time exploring the buildings and sites. Travel is easier and less intimidating in the UK (I love it!), but Egypt could be the trip of a lifetime! You could have so much fun reading and watching documentaries and travel videos about ancient Egypt in preparation for your trip (something I did). All those pre-visit activities not only helped me better understand what I was seeing, but also extended the excitement of the trips.

You have a very positive and inspirational out look - I am going to be 72 but honestly it is only a number because after 2 years of struggle on retirement at 60 about how to live my retirement - I figured it out completely - No living in the past ( I was a hot shot in the company ) - I realised I had 20 years ahead - I play golf very well - learnt Spanish & Italian ( where I also have super lady friends) - Lived in Chicago - Hong Kong & many other countries & travelled extensively - travel each year to Europe in stay in Italy for 2 months - learning the Violin and cycle every day - Learnt how to cook continental food - Read a lot and stick with Nobel prize winners / Man booker - And had a Pace maker implant - which really made life stronger - Watching Ted Talks and other motivational videos on yourtube greatly helped to narrow the focus -since my son ( 37 years ) stays with me - he teaches me AI which is necessary for the baby boomer generation - Glad I was able to get all this off my chest because when others listen to my life style and when I try to motivate them - they feel bad for themselves & say that they are too old now - In short - We can design a Great Lifestyle and watch your health and Travel to different countries as it enriches your life.

I retired at 66.5 years old, it was a challenge to accept retirement, as many ppl said I looked too young to be a “pensioner” 🥹Initially, turning 60 didn’t faze me, as my health was good however in the last couple of years its been a downhill slide having had 3 ops for arthritis & numerous skin cancers removed, but keeping on top of it with regular check-ups & advances in med science are improving daily. Health is real wealth; I am now living the last chapter of my life & just starting to be happy with acceptance; gratitude & adopting peace, serenity & mindfulness into my outlook on life. I am learning to enjoy my own company along with 6 chihuahuas & cats. I have absolutely no fear of death as I have an understanding that to be out of the body is to be at peace through our Saviour Jesus, to Him & the Father I give all thanks.

      @alexrafe2590 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

and I'm not sure where in Europe you grew up. Maybe it's true that the grass is always greener on the other side. I grew up in the States and after spending a year in my teens in Germany, I always longed to return. But stupidly I waited to my mid thirties to return, but I'm so grateful that I finally did. The only thing I regret is not leaving a decade younger.
Social benefits are so much better in Europe than in America and that's reflected in life expectancies, rates of chronic illnesses, mortality, infant mortality. And the amount of leave time in Europe compared with America is stark. Two weeks vacation after you've worked for a company is punitive. Europeans work to live, but Americans live to work. Great for workaholics, not for anyone else.
America's politics has grown ever more ugly and reactionary since I left in the early 90s. Its laissez-faire gun control laws have grown so extreme that the biggest factor behind infant mortality is guns.
The shopping is great, but the materialistic focus on looking to things and money to provide happiness leaves many feeling empty and their lives pointless.
Maybe that's why so many turn to cults and religious extremism to find meaning in their lives. But it also drives the reactionary, politics and ugly divisions in society.
And for all it's vaunted multiculturalism, America is a very monocultural conformist place. Where differences in lifestyles and life choices are called out and attract censure and suspicion. As a result I feel much less free in America than I do in Europe.

@@simplelife465 I laughed when you wrote that older people in Europe cannot have careers. That's simply ridiculous. I'm from Ireland and have been living in France for the past forty years, returning regularly to Ireland for holidays. The opening poster is correct. Europe is a much easier place to live for older people. I have siblings living in the US (Pennsylvania and Arizona) and there seems to be a gulf of difference in the ways older people are treated. The quality of life is a lot better here in Europe. Plus, there's less chance of being gunned down or succumbing to a tornado!! 😂 I wish you well.

I am 63 and I think about the present day now more so than the future. I do my best to live each day to the fullest! Not reckless, but I live each day as though there is no tomorrow. If I'm blessed and fortunate enough to wake up the next morning I repeat the process responsibly again... Thanks for sharing your perspective and thoughts!😊

Another great video! So love your authenticity and humor! I turn 60 in two wks and it's really hitting me hard (similar to your experience). I've always felt rather young and now seeing 60 is making me reflect on my life, mostly HOW DID IT GO BY THIS FAST? Regarding your question about travel, I would not go to Egypt if you're picking one country. I found Cairo dirty, rundown and felt quite dangerous. I would recommend England for its beauty/history and the fact they speak English makes the experience so much better. Also, Italy (Rome, Venice, Amalfi Coast) for the natural beauty. I've heard Switzerland is breathtaking and clean! I can't thank you enough for these videos, just knowing someone shares my similar experiences/worries/realizations about getting 60+ has REALLY helped me, made me less anxious.

I never ever think about what I look like now or how I’ll look in the future.
I am just glad to be here and I’ve earned every wrinkle!
I love being retired and I wish the days were longer!
I do think about my health though, especially as I just watched my husband die a very painful death from cancer.
    Enjoy your good health.😊

Hi, My name is Diane and I celebrated 71 this July 2024. I had never been abroad either, and wanted to visit Sweden, where my father's roots are from, but ended up going to England, where my 35 yr old niece lives in Chelmsford, Essex. I was nervous about traveling alone, and it was perfect to have family to stay with.
We walked 7.1 miles in one day in London alone, and many more in Epping Forest, Windsor, Buckingham Palace, Bath, and many other amazing places. There's a ton of Roman ruins all over England, and some castles and cathedrals were built over them.
Anyway, I enjoy and am inspired by your postings, even tho I am now in my 70s!

I always said it’s just a number and it’s all about how you feel until this year when I turned 60. I lost two loved ones the first if the year and then I got shingles which were the worse thing ever to me. I am feeling 60. I never thought I would say that. I have always been active and exercise and walk daily. I still do it but it’s different now. It really makes me sad when I think about it too much. I am a fighter so I keep moving forward and remember to have gratitude on a daily basis! So much more I want to see in life including my 22 year old son and what his life has in store. That keeps me going ! Thanks for sharing! I have 4 cats 😂

Stop wasting your life .. Stop worrying about things that might never happen … Be happy … Take care of yourself . Don’t waste time .
I’m feeling like it’s my time now to do the things I love and to put myself first .
So, I think my 60’s are going to be great .

Well, you kind of have to because those things will come and you need to plan for them. Otherwise, when they do suddenly happen, it’ll be even worse. We have to face reality and plan for the future to the best of our abilities. I’m not even any close to being old but I already think about the things she’s talking about in the video, as sickness and death will befall on us all at any age. Thinking about them doesn’t mean you’re feeling old, just makes you more prepared.

Don’t know who’s looking at me in the mirror anymore 😮most of the concerns expressed in this video are on my mind too. Dealing with depression and related issues over past seven years has kept my focus on daily struggles and survival, it’s like the aging factor has suddenly crept up on me and compounded everything. Totally unprepared for this. And so many ghosts, so many people already gone. Subscribed and will continue watching. Essential and quite helpful. Thank you Holly if you’re reading this 🐴❤

But I am here to say that it has forced me to reavers and reinvent. Not so bad if you look at it the right way. Yes, it may be the last chapter, but it is also a new chapter. So I live each day not thinking about the WHAT IFS to scare myself but instead I tried to live the way I possibly can to be joyful and do what I can and count my blessings at days end each evening! I am the same age! I didn't think about any of this CRAP until my husband died suddenly 3 years ago. Then I was obsessed with time running out to do all sorts of things. My new mantra became, "What's to become of me?" But now that I am finding myself and also feeling pretty good about myself, I am not worrying about things that I cannot control. My sweet mom whom i cared for died a year after my hubby. I remember the day or so before she died she confided in me that she looked in the mirror and did not recognize the woman staring back. She was dismayed. And then she died. But she was 94!

Interesting questions you are posing, for sure. I'm 74 and didn't have that "I'm not immortal" wake up call until I turned 72. Up until then I just felt the same way I've felt forever. I've never experienced tragedies or poor health to bring that awaking sooner. But since 72 I'm comforted that we are in good company. We will all move on to another dimension at some point and if we are lucky, it will be a peaceful transition. There are times now when I think it can't be too soon because of the state of humanity and our neglect to our precious earth. Once we are gone, all of us, this earth can heal and recover from the abuse we inflicted on it for centuries. Why are we here in the first place? Who knows! An interesting experiment gone wrong, it seems, as we don't learn from history or our mistakes. This may seem morbid, but afterall, it's definitely in line with your topic. I enjoy conversations with you! Keep your chin up!

Becoming 60 really changes our way of viewing life, but the spirit never ages, I’ve moved to Egypt alone at 56 to start a new chapter of my life, got a job and rent a house, did new friends, but I continue singing, playing guitar, and recording music videos on Instagram, I’m 60 now but never think about my age to do things that I want, life is present to enjoy the way we want!

My comment comes late but here’s my answer. Yes, when I turned 60 things changed dramatically. I’m 68 now & looked great all the way through my 50’s. What happened was my spine. I’d had an emergency cervical surgery when I was 36 & that worked out thankfully. Then degenerative disk disease, spinal stenosis & herniated disks happened in my 60’s. Another cervical surgery 3 years ago & I had a laminectomy with fusion on my lower spine scheduled for a year ago that I cancelled due to fear. I have been fortunate in my life to have traveled pretty extensively. My advice to you is to take those trips as your health is still good & you never know how long you’ll be in good health. Maybe until you’re in your 80’s & beyond but it’s never promised. Australia was one of my favorite places. London is beautiful at Christmastime. If you’re into weird stuff like myself, take the Ripper tour. The guides make it such fun and educational. Of course the islands of the Caribbean are so gorgeous. I’m alone like yourself and I like it that way. I don’t date, haven’t in a long time and I have no plans to start. I’m perfectly happy on my own. So yeah, take a trip. See some of the world. Make some wonderful memories. And by the way, where’d you get your fabulous couch? ~Bonnie

When I turned 60, I kept a birthday card, that had a big "60" on the cover, on my desk for the entire year so I could really absorb turning 60. It worked! I turn 65 this December (29th) too. I think I stopped "caring" as you say sometime in my 50s...hard to say. I have had several deaths in the family this past year including my wife's passing 4 months ago. Since then, I have been making sure all my affairs are in order so my passing is as easy as possible for my kids. My thoughts lately have mostly been getting used to the label of widower.

I am 65 and my husband left me when I was 61 so that is when I really felt old. It didn’t help that he was so much younger -15 years. I think about never getting to the places that I wanted to. I have traveled through the United States and been on some cruises and to Great Britain, but I always wanted to go to France, Germany, Italy, Greece. So many places it would be hard to pick one. So that makes me sad to think I might not get to travel. I got a little kitten a few months ago. It’s the best,I wish I had done it when my husband first left me. "for 65"?! She looks awesome FULL STOP! there is no "for" anything! 😃 no qualifiers needed. I am so grateful to keep discovering amazing inspiring women that make me look to the future with excitement- we are not counting down to the end of anything, we are counting up toward our grand finale!!

So interesting that your channel was presented to me because I’m still a ways away from 60, but I’ve enjoyed listening to you so much! I lost my mom almost 2 years ago and I miss her wisdom and perspective. And I miss her stories! You are so enjoyable! Please keep sharing your life experiences and your thoughts/feelings with us! I’m delighted to know that you also have a Shih Tzu! Our family adopted a one-eyed Shih Tzu rescue dog when my mom fell ill to help bring some joy into our lives and this little dog did not disappoint (I started a channel about our journey with her!). I hope you take a trip abroad! South of France might be nice?! ☕🥖🌅

That sound lovely! My Shih Tzu before the one I have now also had one eye. Sadly, eye issues seem to be a trait of the breed

My plan is to keep on taking care of myself until it's time for me to choose my nursing home. I will not allow my children to take care of me. I spend very little time thinking about my death. I consider that a hugh waste of time and is very low vibration. We are here to enjoy life, learn lessons and experience joy. Love and Light to everyone ❤😊

I'm 84, I'm just beginning to think about these things you have mentioned. I'm still mowing my lawn and doing the all the things I've been doing, except my kids have told me not to get up on the roof any more. I do, NOW, notice when people speak to fast.
    My processing speed has deminished.

I won’t forget 60 as that was when my marriage ended. Seven years have gone by way too fast. Planning a trip to Australia soon, a trip I was going to make in my twenties, but got derailed.
Sweden sounds like a good choice. I have ancestry there as well, also Denmark. Hope to make that trip too. It’s all good.
I try to do something new every day, because the clock is ticking.

I am so pleased I found your channel that showed up in my algorithms (spelling?) I live very similarly with your same thoughts about life and happy, single at 66; grateful to have great health and to be able to hopefully grow into old age as long as possible to see my beautiful sons and especially my grandchildren grow older and watch them evolve into adults. I thankfully have great genes on mother's side. Her mom lived to be one month shy of 103 and my Mom is in her early 90's and has a fiesty energy like her Mom (my grandmother) did. 😁

When I lost my husband to covid at only 58, that changed a hell of a lot. I'm 60, and not having him here is like I'm living in another world. I have a small channel, I just started doing videos on my ghost towns around my area, etc. It's going to be a journey! I'm healthy as a horse so I'm grateful. I don't want to go slowly, make it quick, then one day I'll see my Chris again. I also have an only son, 26. I'm sure he's why I'm still here. He can't afford to be on his own. I'm planning to never remarry. Oh and ice never been out of the States either, maybe Scotland where my family is from.

Hello Ms Becoming, first time to your channel. Thank you for being brave enough to share your thoughts and experiences. Well, I'm soon to be 69 and find your conversations and questions interesting. I never thought I'd be in this stage of 'the game'. I'm recently retired and it wasn't till I entered retirement that I gave much thought to my 'later days'. Well, here I am and been pondering most of the questions you've raised. And I think these are all indicators of healthy processing. Stay strong girl and talk again. Blessing to you. bw

Don’t know how I came across your video. I am 64, but I am not focusing on that as its just a number at this point in life. Boy, do I hear ya on cool! I will be interested to follow you. I am alone with my 2 dogs. Lived all over the world and experienced a lot, so it take so much to get me Jazzed. Name is Ron and will follow ya, maybe it will help me. Thanks
