W edit. Most of my top 10 anime are what people would consider mid but all that matters is if you enjoy it or not

Thank you!, That's Awesome and very true and what I'm slowly learning the more I just enjoy stuff ( Anime or Manga ) It's all about you making your own decision about something and not letting the internet make the choice for you.

It's so funny how many people on Anitwt love to use mid as bad or terrible when it should just be average. I'm simple, as long as the art is good and the story has some compelling features, I will read it. That said, I do think on average all the new and current stuff coming out simply have better quality coming out as a medium due to people having more nuance in their tastes and appreciating people like the same medium that is anime and manga.

First of all, THANK YOU for including the series title when you showed manga panels :) I really appreciate it!!
Now, as for my thoughts after watching your video - Some years ago, after I graduated from university, I stumbled upon the Fairy Tail anime. Watching that anime made me feel like I was a kid again - being so excited to see each episode. It wasn’t groundbreaking, but it was fun. At some point, I stumbled upon SO MANY TH-camrs talking about how BAD the series gets, and I am sad to admit that hearing all that convinced me to not watch the final season for years… But, then I finally watched it, and I really enjoyed myself. Is the series perfect?? NO. Not at all. But, that’s OKAY. I really enjoyed it, to the point that I plan on reading the Fairy Tail manga at some point.
That’s the thing - Just because a series can be mid or BAD to someone… that doesn’t mean that someone else won’t enjoy the series.
Another example is Domestic Girlfriend. I kept seeing people say that the series sucks and falls off by the end….. I read it, and I had a good time. IN FACT, I liked the ending.
My final example for this comment - I remember reading Time Paradox Ghostwriter when it was coming out in Shonen Jump. I really liked it, but then it got cancelled…. So, obviously, the series wasn’t performing well enough for Shonen Jump. Based on that, it may have been mid to the overall Shonen Jump audience, but I really liked it.
It is perfectly okay to read series that aren’t particularly loved by the overall anime/manga community. You never know - that “mid” series may end up being something that you love.
    #Mid’sOK

Not many people are talking about this topic very much and I felt this way around 2019 and I've changed on what I buy for myself, not to please everyone or is only shonen manga, it is not bad to change and enjoy something else that you haven't explore yet. That probably you have being missing for a while and thank you for this video it was great and I'm happy i am not the only one felt like this, can't wait for more video of yours.
i absolutely recommend you to read
    -chibi vampire
    -blood lad
    -Otome mania
    -kiss him, not me!
-ima koi now I'm in love
    -Witch hunter

I thought Reboot was a fever dream but-- my nostalgia goes back even more with Dino Riders and Princess Guinevere and the Jewel Riders 😭
Also, I feel like calling something "mid" is to drum up engagement when in the context of content creation. The word immediately primes the viewer's reaction in defense of or in attack of (insert noun here).
As always, deeply appreciate the nuance and more thoughtful approach you take in your videos. Cheers!

You are so right. Because what is mid for some people is perfect for others! If we only ever showcase the popular series or if publishers only ever focus on those big titles, then there will always be series out there that aren't reaching their audience, if that makes sense!

Love your videos ❤! But i think a lot of people want only the best because there so many ongoing manga and anime that most people feel that they have to read the best to read what is already aclaimed and seen as good to not be dissapointed by a manga or anime. But i always try to give a go and read a few chapters but i don't think a manga needs to be as fantastic to catch your attention, like spyxFamily it isn't anything that changed my life but its good and confortable

“Loved”? so you don’t like him now? But in all seriousness amen to that brother, people only want to read the most award winning series and not focus on what they like, so instead they burn themselves out reading something that isn’t necessarily for them.

Thank you! I definitely understand that because there is a ton of manga out there and it can get expensive, especially if you want to pick up a physical volume, and there is nothing wrong with having a big series be a good/comfort read. I've been staring at the Naruto boxsets thinking " Is it time to re read it" haha...my point of this video and what I've been trying to work on personally is just immediately if a series you've been looking forward to gets turned on by the internet, You still make your own choice by like you Said " give it a go and read a few chapters" which I struggle with sometimes.

True. What I seek in manga isn't wow factor. But something that makes me feel something when reading. I watch My angel next door. That was one of the most refreshing anime I had seen. But then I watch girlfriend girlfriend and I take it seriously. It also very enjoyable to me too.I am currently reading love blooming and what I normally read is cooking or chill series. People in the series comment section when the series was announced were pretty angry. We have been getting many action series or lewd ones. Many cooking or fantasy series, too. I think it is fair that people get simple romances too.

I tend to be really picky nowadays because there’s so much lazy writing, and I feel if I buy into their bad writing I encourage them to continue and not improve. Then again I agree with you that sometimes mid series like Way of the Househusband are a great read to unwind to. Another great vid man.

I read everything I can get my hands on cheaply. While people's recommendations come into play, peoples dislike of series typically doesn't because even if they like stuff I like, that doesn't mean all of our interests will align. I've liked a lot of series I've never heard anyone talk about.
On the ratings topic, I've noticed that most people don't truly rank things out of the whole. Like people that rank out of 5 usually only rank things 5 stars or 4 or 1 if they hated it. They only use half the scale. People who rank out of 10 usually don't mark anything below 5. It makes it a useless measurement. I think the reason it's so hard is because numbers can be arbitrary. I use a 5 star scale and I think if I hadn't put specific meanings to the numbers I'd also have a hard time placing them. But I made a system for my numbers. 3 is the middle number, 3 should be average. It's ok to be average. I rank a lot of things 3 that I would normally feel bad ranking a 3 if I didn't have the qualifiers behind the numbers. It also helps me determine if a series should stay or go in my collection.
    My ranking system is
    1. Hate this with my whole being (Sell)
    2. A waste of my time or was hard to get through (Sell)
    3. This series is decent (If I own it, keep it to reread once and reevaluate. If I don't own it, don't buy it)
    4. I really enjoyed this one - would recommend (Keep)
    5. I will reread this over and over again and love it every time. (Keep)

I think it’s a mix of hype culture and dopamine addiction. I think a lot of people bring their ego into it too much and make it about them “yo that’s mid, I only watch X”, and then there’s just the way the brain wants instant dopamine production, I’m guilty of this as I find myself watching one episode of something and if it hasn’t gripped me I find it hard to push through, I lack the patience.

    First all, EXCELLENT video topic!
I believe a lot of manga people think are the "greatest" are just mid or just slightly above mid (average but still pro-made). This is because so much of manga that is out of print (and often have a high price point) and so much of manga that are just Shonen Jump so too many of books that people have the fondest memories are what they read when they were new to manga or when they were young. Shonen Jump-style manga does not have the goal of making the best story. They are just trying to stick in the surveys and stay in print in Shonen Jump as long as possible, not execute an epic story line where the story, from the beginning, was fully plotted out. So by nature, it is impossible to come up with a 10/10 story. And 9-10 level artists or subject matter is extremely rare (and naturally so by nature of distribution, think bell curve).
Bottom line, most people are poorly read. It's the same problem with movies. Except movies where they may have normal ratings like Rotten Tomatoes made by average movie goers. However, movies also have IMDb where pro movie makers and medium (movie medium) scholars are also voted on. Rather than giving highest ratings to the most popular/highest voting, they give the highest average rating the highest rankings. But in manga, there is no such thing yet, at least not prevalent. The problems with manga is that there is a very high price point, books often are more out of print than in print for 99% of series, and you have to dedicate days to read where most movies end in under 2 hours. Another way to think about it is how people rank the best wrestlers or the best sports players or the best metal bands...you can say a one of those is for sure "top 10" but when you and a group write out all of the top 10, you find that there are 43 candidates for top 10. The top 5 has 14 legit candidates.
And as a person who has read almost all of the 9s and 10s in both US comics and manga, I can tell you this. You can't survive on reading only 9s and 10s. Those works are too rare. It's ok to read favorite 5's, 6's, and 7's. Many of non-elite books may be excellent in their genre/niche. I often tell people this is a 6.5 and people think I'm insulting a work when I'm just fixing the goalposts. A 6.5 is well above average. I use a sports analogy to help explain this: if you see an average to decent player in the NBA, NHL, MLB, etc. top pro league, they may look just average but in any lower league in the world, they would be a dominant top 3 in the league player of that league.
Another think for younger readers to keep in mind (younger as in, they've read manga for only 20 years or less) is that both manga and anime are super-trendy. What is red hot one year becomes semi-forgotten 5 years later and almost totally forgotten 10 years later even though it was the number one thing back then. And almost all of the manga that isn't forgotten is because they are kids manga and are tied to people's childhood. It's one thing I noticed about anime and manga fans that isn't true for normal Americans TV watchers. 20 years later, when a kid is now 25/30, they will still clamor for Dragonball, Pokemon or One Piece but you rarely see a 30 year old searching for Thundercats merchandise.
So I think for you personally, it may be difficult to find out what is truly a 9+/10 masterwork of manga when 99.99% of manga fans are giving you their favorite manga as recommendations of (best evah!) and they've read less than 50 titles. They are out there and many of them are Seinen or older school Shojo or just flat out older school books (by nature, if you go through and find all of the best works, they will be spread all over the place). You may first need to identify who is so well read that they can recommend to you a top work. A good cheaty-face method is just start picking up all of the Tezuka works.

Interesting video though i have to say we live in the attention economy and if something is considered "mid" its not gonna be popular.
Its not just about manga loll look at TH-cam, majority of the books/mangas that people read are what's popular and well loved as that's what gets the clicks resulting in the views and watch time. You would find very less creators talking about the underrated stuff.
I understand your sentiment i feel the same way but its just we live in a time where everything comes down to profitability 😂😂😂.

It's also pretty hard to get older out of print series or series that don't have an anime when your buying physical. Even for ongoing series unless your buying online most book stores will only have the latest volumes if not popular enough. I've collected some more obscure series, like Shoulder a coffin Kuro, Voynich hotel, and Dorothy of oz.

As an avid cookie cutter rom-com enjoyer, I agree with everything that was said here lol. I understand why people would want to be nitpicky and only get into "perfect" series (if that can even be a thing) so as to not feel like they wasted their time, I do. But also sometimes if you just let some stuff slide that you're less a fan of and focus on the aspects you enjoy, you can absolutely still have a great time. It might not turn out to be a series you'll recommend to people after or you might not even remember much of the series afterwards, but if you still had a good time who cares! It's not wasted time if you enjoyed yourself

Maybe spoilers, but most of what I am about to say is very apparent in the first two volumes of all these series. I reading My wife has not emotions series. I read Me and my Beast Boss. Reading slave soldier. Each of these series is solid 8 or 7 to me most of the time. But Each has moments that are 10 out 10. Slave soldier is very creative with the transformations and the motivation of the characters. Me and beast boss is very beautiful art when it need to. It also deal with heavy themes. Like Racism straight from 60/ America. Ptsd main character and emotionally hurt characters. My wife has no emotions is very cute and all that. But I notice that when characters are having fears. The author sometimes decides to go very serious psychological horror with the depictions. Mina character with barely any physical expressions when it comes to emotions. Is one the most expressive characters I have ever seen. One thing that is very horrific to me about this manga is the following. We continue to see evidence that Mina is very self-aware, but the manga sometimes presents questions and situations that make you ask if that is truly the case. I hope that my grammar isn't too rough to understand what I wrote.
