    Hi hi hi,
I'm really sorry for being gone for so long. I think the 9 month time-frame was mainly just a combination of being really busy with school and trying to find myself throughout the making of this video. After my last upload I realized that there were just a lot of aspects of my personal life that were drastically affecting me and my creative output. And I had to make sure that, before I could ever finish this one, I needed to take care of all of that. I can comfortably say that I'm genuinely in a really good place now and excited to work on new stuff for the channel. You'll never see me be gone for that long ever again don't worry LMAO.

Inoue really changed my life with vagabond. like REALLY. ( sorry for the rambling but trust me its worth it)
it hit me so hard that it flipped a switch in me and i tried my best to understand it with my dumbass head and after my 6th read and 2 years later ( in which i ended up learning N1 japanese to understand the actual source material )
i finally understood it. after that i moved to japan nd started learning daoism or better known as taoism there and shinto and buddhist culture deeply for the next 6 years in which i also learnt Niten Ichi-ryū and now here i am currently living in japan as a kenjutsu assistant teacher, a simple life with not much money but the amount i need to live in with no regrets ( my goal in life is to emulate Musashi way of living as close as possible and follow his philosophy ) (im 28 next month btw).
he really flipped my life to a whole different path which originally shouldve been a doctor( i even got admission to a med school but thanks to my supporting parents i was able to learn all of this ).
and after talking to a lot of people over the years from different backgrounds like monks, salarymen, multi millionares and old people on their death beds etc on their world view and life and reading a ton of books this past decade i finally understood more or less of the world that Musashi saw with his eyes towards the end of his life.
that nothing in this world no matter the quality of alcohol or the hottest woman or the most beautiful mansions and any amount of money can compensate u for the inner peace of ur mind which u can achieve if u have a mind as strong as steel and as flexible as water and very little distractions. ( I still havent reached it completely though im still like halfway on that ) every day i wake up with a smile on my face being grateful for the day and weather no matter what kind of weather it is on that day. even though somedays i do get irritated i still try to do my best. thank u Takehiko inoue for changing my life to this extent.

@@retruecano i know it sounds insane but thats mainly cause i was at a point where i didnt know what to do in life. i didnt wanna be a doc tbh i just became a med styd just cause i had no other option
And to make it clear vagabond alone did not bring me to where i am today, vagabond led to another book which led to smh else and resulted in a whole set of events. so yea thats what it is.

I didn't realize anything to this level thanks to Vagabond, but I can understand the overall feeling. I was at a point in my life where I was feeling great, but, at the same time, behind my back I was alienating myself from everyone I've ever loved because I was too mesmerized by my pursuit for status and my obsession for knowledge and power. Well, it feels all too cheesy if I put it in that way, but the point is that if it wasn't for this manga, my life would've continued to move towards a really excruciating path; now all that I can really say is maybe it was God's intent to make me read Inoue-san's work at that moment and see that I was not living my own life, but it was my ego living his life through me. Since than, all I'm doing right now is striving to become a good person.

    • @retruecano
      @retruecano 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

@@Tuber-sama in my honest opinion, the desire alone to become a good person is something only truly good people try to pursue. To become a better version of yourself than you were yesterday. Also learning to forgive yourself if you end up straying away from your path. So much to think about.

This is probably one of the best video's I think i'll ever watch. Your ability to tell a cohesive and emotional story that can touch other peoples hearts while still managing to intertwine your own personality and style of comedy that manages to not take away from that emotional story you're trying to tell is astounding. Not to mention, your passion to elevate your story telling through your editing and find new creative ways to bring your ideas to live is so fucking good. I can only hope to bring something i'm passionate about to life in such a way that you have and thank you for yet again reminding us all why Takehiko Inoue is one of the greatest mangaka's to ever live.

I tend to not comment (God knows the last time I did). But as someone who has gone in life with sometimes too many questions to bare either never being able to get an answer to or being scared almost to death of what the answer could mean, I have definitely had some "Inoue effect" through my first reading of Vagabond (which like Inoue I could probably do some picking back up on) and having heard you depict so masterfully his works and influence I can say I have been inspired to say the least to read in depth on Inoue's work.
Vagabond definitely came to me at a time of change and having listened to The Book of Five Rings a couple of times during uni, I have been able to allow myself to be a tad more kinder more importantly to myself. Reading through a story as epic as Vagabond definitely made me realize that there was definite raw physical strength to Musashi and Sasaki, but more importantly, Musashi's journey towards understanding the why of such pursuit to strength is relevant and how it can ultimately benefit yourself anymore in life.
I truly believe that you beautifully put the idea of being strong as being kind and gentler towards the next person regardless of the bad in life that you may have done or experienced. That transformation and almost elevation towards the betterment of oneself to be so tied to being genuinely and purely kind towards the people next to you.
These realizations and thoughts that I have rushed to try to encapsulate into this comment made me realize that someone like myself who didn't seem to have much direction in life and the anguish that caused to me was alleviated by a decent amount when I could just realize that maybe I just needed to be more unconditionally kinder to myself and those around to me to achieve some sort of "peace".
Sorry for the blabber session but I really hope that if anyone read through and I didn't seem too "all over the place" that you too can possibly realize that you have the capability to always change to become kinder and to try the trail the path of "Invincible under the Sun" (cheesy I know)
You've got yourself a sub!!!! Keep it up and thanks.

I've also grown up with sports all around me (I've been doing Kendo for the last 9 years) so that movie even without context really emotionally hit me. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ❤

actually making me cry what a fucking good video
also man,, the "It's not necessarily bad. I wanted to give up several times, In the end, the result is correct." at 49:50 kills me
it hits me so hard as someone who wants to make and draw things, he doesn't say its good, but that its correct omfg
its too late to put it into words tonight but makes me rethink a ton about what ive made so far and what i want to make in the future

Bro thank you, I am a huge fan of video essay style videos because it allows people to just talk about things that they are passionate about and interested in in a way that can be hard to convey otherwise. I've watched so many of these types of videos about so many different topics but this is far and away the best I have ever seen and was amazing to watch, thank you for sharing this

As a person that likes drawing and having a dream ppl to relate and be moved by my art, i absolutely adore Takehiko Inoue. His way of storytelling, drawing, directing is so moving and heartwarming to the audience eye. I see his art as a work of study. A teacher that shows how to make art in very deep and insightful way ❤

Hey Alex, I just finished the video and have to say this was really well made. I could see the strenuous amount of hard work that you put into this project. The edits are good, and the 3D renders are great. I especially love the scenes with the gallery; it feels like it's mimicking how Inoue would have exhibits of artwork, but instead you're showing off the work you put out and particularly on the topic of Inoue. On another note, this video was very informative. Prior to this, all I knew about Inoue was that he loved basket ball and was a mangaka, so thanks for giving me the chance to learn a little more about one of my favorite creators. Also "CHAMELEON JAIL" is such a silly name with an even more absurd story, and the million-dollar question is such a real thing too. I am nearing the end of high school and will be graduating in the next month and a half, so figuring out what I want to do and whether or not I'll enjoy it is a hassle. Lastly, I've never read REAL, but this video has convinced me to do so, so when I get the chance, I will.
Overall this was an excellent video, and I appreciate all the effort you placed in this video and can't wait for your next video!(even If I have to wait another 9 months, jkjk)

Hey man I love the video. I’ve played basketball for the majority of my life and when I left high school I felt hella lost without it but when I read slam dunk a year ago I knew that I wouldn’t want to do anything else with my life but play ball then my life took a switch I read hajime no ippo (I recommend) and I think that I’ve played basketball enough in my life and a hole has been within that needs filling and I think hajime no ippo really brought that out and I’m doing my best everyday to get better in my life to fill that hole (I totally recommend you should tots read hajime no ippo I honestly think slam dunk and hji are the best ever) all love brother ❤❤

Just finished the video, really well done. Thank you for taking your time and putting so much effort in to make something like this, the passion here was palpable. I could tell that question on the meaning within art was not only important to the topic, but a really personal question for you as well. Whether the answer you found was one that you expected, the connection art can bring was reflected here in your work throughout. Congrats on finishing, you fuckin did it.

i'm so glad you're back. i've never once found a video on the internet of someone conveying that much how i felt about mangas. all the video essays on yt are very cool, but they never quite showed how one can be obsessed with a manga, an author - hell, a single panel. they never really showed how personal reading those stories is, how you can spend days, weeks kinda being spaced out after finishing a manga, how much it can affect your life, how it can change your perspective of the world forever. i love your videos because i find myself in your words, the way you share your experience, your dedication to the manga you love. you had the courage and the will to try and put your passion into words, which is hella difficult and i respect you, but i want you to know that you're doing this so well. so i hope you're doing well, and don't put pressure on yourself too much

Ive yet to see another that has gone to the same depth as this one and I can say having discovered this channel early on I can say that no other youtuber has continually impressed me as much as you.

Every once in a while the TH-cam algorithm hits the mark and recommends a channel/video that is actually incredible. My man really just got me to watch an hour+ long video on the author of a manga/anime I'd rather die than read/watch (Slam Dunk - I *loathe* basketball *AND* sports anime). The strength of the writing, the.....presentation style and the editing (dear Dog in heaven the editing) are just incredible. Immediate sub and I'm really looking forward to binging your entire catalogue of videos.

I would say, for me at least, inoue's work is actually about coming to terms with humanity, you have limited time and an even more limited body to experience the world with. We spend too luch time to find meaning, when all the meaning there is to life is being, being the best, the happiest or better yet the most content you can

I've read the big three of his and consider them all some of the best literary works created by man, but holy shit dude, you've opened a box in my chest that hasn't been touched in a long ass time. This is a greatly produced video and analysis on why Inoue is such a phenomenal writer, illustrator and explainer of the simple but big difficulties of life's meaning. Great video man.
