I felt this board game came out well. They did keep in mind it was a board game which has to work differently. But it still feels like the video game to me enough to be happy with the Nostalgia I feel.
One of my biggest problems with the game is that all those great miniatures hardly gets used. I mean they look soo good and then you end up playing lots of stupid bent cards on the minimap battles. And maybe 1-2 real fights.
same here or even worst lol. i get whatever was given during the 1st campain regular backing tier which would be 4 boxes: core game, tower expansion, streach goals, faction units and neutral units. BUT i didnt pay extra for battlefield expansion so basically i cant use these minis at all...
Very thorough review! Regarding the box organization, I don't know if this applies to the individual boxes, but in the grail box, each tray has a faint letter and number designation. For example, i1-7 are the inferno units level 1-7, i8-9 are the heroes, and i10 is the town. Just another thing that will help you if you're a die-hard fan of the computer game!
Are you referring to the "All-In" Big Box? That would have been nice inside the individual boxes, but there's no letters in mine. I'm pretty sure what I ordered was the Grail Pledge though.
@@progstorm yes - it is in the big box. I have small boxes and to be fair i have no problem to put minis back to the insert however i know it can be a problem for lot of new players. Good review. i will say tho, the guide is somewhat clear on discarding when you draw over your hand limit during your turn. it says to discard down to your hand limit at the start of your turn on the little player guide cards.
While plenty of what you said is true (for exampe instructions here are horrible) I couldn't agree with some of the points. For example gaps in miniatures are very minimalistic. They won't be seen once you put any coat of paint on it, expecially since they are so small.
Yeah, it's almost like the whole point of video games is to make the computer handle a bunch of tedious mechanics with fun outcome. Like, I consider the video game of Magic the Gathering to be more enjoyable than the card game, DESPITE the card game being conceived 20 years prior, because it handles all the card shuffling. Shuffling cards is not fun, especially when you do it every 30 seconds.

This was a very nice review, taking in consideration all the aspects of the game! Thx! We enjoy our copy of the game as well, and looking forward for the new campaign for the upcoming 3 expansions! :)
16:26 It sounds a bit weird to call a game fiddly for forgetting the core mechanics (most of which clearly visible on the table/cards). We had no issue as first time players, although first few turns we might have missed some rules. Could take some games to get this into blood maybe? I enjoyed the video, good review.
Gorgons look wrong. So do the basilisks. Just compare them to the pc games units. The bent foil cards straighten if you just sleeve them and leave them under preassure.
Hey this was super thorough and well produced, really good job. Held my intention even though I’ve already decided to skip this one. One point about the miniatures though. Yes, they have slight gaps where the minis are preassembled. However, I can tell you that the ones in HOMM 3 are about bang average in the industry when it comes to how egregious those gaps are. It’s simply the price we pay for preassembled miniatures. If you want a much easier fix than green stuff, to help make the gaps less noticeable, I’d recommend sprue glue. This is simply extra thin plastic glue with some plastic mixed in to thicken it up. It will help blur the edges of those gaps together. Only problem is if you don’t paint it after it might leave a more satin finish than the miniature itself. The colour of plastic used to make it also matters. If it doesn’t roughly match the miniature plastic, it might stand out a little. Anyways, real high production quality on this. Will keep an eye on your channel!
Dont use the normal Green stuff puddy for these small cracks. Use the greenstuff thats in a color plastic thingy and brush it on the mini. Will look better on these ones like the dragon. The cracks so small and it will be easier, smoother and look better =) And for the rulebook, yeah sure everything must be there. But google rulebook updates that comes in pdf. All boardgame have these =) And its very handy to have the rules on your phone instead of passing around the table. Some things you need to know can ruin your plans in the game were the other players will figure out what you gonna do. Very good video with the sound a little bit too loud. I agree with your concerns on the game and I haven´t yet decided, if I want to keep the game or not. As a Heroes enthusiast I was completly hyped when the kickstarter came out and I just had to have it. Now it´s a mixed bag of emotions. It´s really a big game, many boxes and many hours. A three player game took us about 8 hours and we spent a lot of time on looking for answers to our questions, discussing rules and creating suiteable house rules. The rule book really is a mess and my copy is now as well after flipping the pages back and forth over and over. The game is fun though and feels like player heroes, but there are many details, that have their problems. You are always short on resources so in none of the games I played so far did any player build the gold recruiting building. Even if we had, no one would have had the money to recruit any of these gold units. Upgrading them is ridiculously expensive, like you need 2 resource rounds to upgrade one of these units which means 4 rounds in total. I think no one ever used their mage guild, because the 5 gold for the spell is better spent on units or buildings. The tree of experience: way too expensive and so on. And all these cards .. There are piles of spells and aditional skills you could use but only 2 or 3 get drawn in the entire game. The minis look great but you don´t really need them and we often forgot them. The best experience I had so far was a 2 player game with just the base game. All play times on boxes are lies. It’s a sad reality of the hobby. Even player count isn’t reliable. Some games just aren’t fun/balanced at certain player counts.
I know there are many attempts to transform video games into board games, but the general experience is: sounds good in theory, does not work in practice. I think in case of HoMaM 3 they wanted too much and a too complex system to be faithful to the PC counterpart, but apparently the general result is not good as it sounded. However, what I really like is the *Northgard: Uncharted Lands* board game. If you don't know, the original is a survival-RTS game, available on steam. But I like even more the board game version, which is still complex, still a bit difficult to learn every rule, but not that the gameplay is still not that slow or complicated that you lose interest in the game, because the developers simplified the original just enough to make it suitable for a board game. Also the good balance between personal decision making and tactics and the unpredictability of RNG makes the game enjoyable on long term because it doesn't become repetitive. Search for info, or even give it a try if you are interested. Also feel free to ask me for more information.
Sounds like they didn't have enough play-testers (if any) - A big mistake. (No idea why I ended up here - I have no idea what the Heroes games are all about)
lvl 1 encounters are not so one sided, not at all - Necro vs Halfling especially :D City Hall round 2 can be a bad decision - you are wrong to demand it's mandatory to get that soon - it takes round 3 and 5 to get your gold back (but you still lose the stone) and getting units instead can be faaaaar more beneficial as is in the PC game, mostly noobs go for that or best players like me on when the map calls for it, noob (;
To me that board game sucks greatly. Nice graphics, nice mechanical similarities, but I simply can't stand how far from the original it feels, even when I do know and accept that they had to simplify the excel-iness of the original game (less resources, much simpler battle result calculations etc.).
It's always silly to me when people complain that the game didn't translate 100% into board game form. As though that's even possible.
I felt this board game came out well. They did keep in mind it was a board game which has to work differently. But it still feels like the video game to me enough to be happy with the Nostalgia I feel.

I was going to buy it but was like $400 aud
Just play the PC game....

Wtf are you even doing here if you don't recognise the music?
this guys voice is that stereotypical nerd sound
good video,man
it's too complicated. they should make this into a computer game ...
Wow, OCD or mental disorder?
I'm assuming your house is immaculate
Sounds like they didn't have enough play-testers (if any) - A big mistake.
(No idea why I ended up here - I have no idea what the Heroes games are all about)
lvl 1 encounters are not so one sided, not at all - Necro vs Halfling especially :D
City Hall round 2 can be a bad decision - you are wrong to demand it's mandatory to get that soon - it takes round 3 and 5 to get your gold back (but you still lose the stone) and getting units instead can be faaaaar more beneficial as is in the PC game, mostly noobs go for that or best players like me on when the map calls for it, noob (;
To me that board game sucks greatly. Nice graphics, nice mechanical similarities, but I simply can't stand how far from the original it feels, even when I do know and accept that they had to simplify the excel-iness of the original game (less resources, much simpler battle result calculations etc.).
