I did these swaps as a teenager with my dad. I was stressful and fun at the same time. I can't wait to see the corolla up and running again. Good luck!
Chin up Nate. Would be great if you did a buyer beware video to save others from the same fate. For what it's worth I've been slowly watching my R32 gtr rusting away as I lack the funds to get it back on the road, but I remain confident that one day I will get it done. Got so close to sending it to a garage to be fixed and the guy just kept putting me off. Here's hoping you get the Celica up and running soon
that should be a lesson learnt, if your going to buy a import get one thats already here and you can inspect it most stuff in Thailand looks good but they are made of old bake bean tins, properly bodged together stuff even the cars coming from japan in the JDM auctions are awful
Missed quite a few videos from this channel, but gutted by the 510, and of course this... And fingers crossed, that, at the very least, the Corolla works out
The UK had a HUGE 4ag, 3sg, MR2, and Corolla community back in the early 2000’s. I'm not sure what things are looking like these days, but hopefully you'll find better luck with this build.
@@MrHVlogsMore yeah, usually the import and transport fees are the dealbreaker for many. Like with Andre of TFL, importing his Buhanka van from Russia for more than its worth, only for Colorado's stupid emissions laws make it so he can't even drive it on the road. So he's LS swapping it, mainly for more power, but at least the LS will pass emissions vs the old, russian 4 cylinder.
A shame about the engine, must be absolutely devastating to find out what happened to the manifolds There's a channel I recommend, called Four Eyes, he basically rebuilt the engine of a 2007 Mustang and is looking to turbo the thing after nearly maxing out the NA engine I do love your content, very informative
I'd change out all those welsh plugs before you put it in. If that engine has been standing a while. When you get it running don't rev it for 20 mins, the valve stem seals need to lube up and become supple again. If you want to check the old heartbeat codes and the loom is chopped you just find TE1 and TE2 at the ECU header and short them together.
Although extremely annoying and expensive this is great content for car enthusiasts and novices. You have a lot of knowledge to pass on to prevent others from being scammed. Please do a buyer beware.
I had a Corsa with the same symptoms as your car, it turned out to be missing teeth on the timing belt, I only found out what it was when the engine died 🙄
Your car content is still a good watch Mr H. Brutally honest! But what I don't get is why you choose to import Japanese cars that are over 40 years old? Classics or not they are always going to be rust buckets, and wrecked to quite a degree. Isn't it well known in the UK that Japanese cars pre 1985 are rust riddled husks? Stopping this run is gonna take newer models. And buying in the UK. How about a Toyota MR2 from between 1990 - 95? You'd get killer looks, great scope for mods, content from purchase, to fixes, to actual driving and daily use. No rust issues! I mean really, is it possible to buy any 70's Toyota to use as a daily driver, and it not to be a painful, heartbreakingly expensive project???
To be fair, I think, part of it is his love for rarities. Not an expert, but I don't think the 510 for example is one car that does not come around too often...
@@MrHVlogsMore Thing is Mr H isn't getting any driving feel, raw or otherwise, from his Datsun, or his Corolla. I don't fancy his chances of rescuing the Corolla either.Thee was a fair but of rust on that replacement engine, it's quite likely leaking. And do you consider cars made from 85 to 95 modern? There has to be some analogue raw drives in among that period of time😀
Every broken part is an Opportunity and unfortunately we all end up over paying for at least a few of our projects. All we can do is, do a little cussing, grab a mate and dig in. Good Luck! ...odd for me being American and using the word "Mate." I like it. :)
Nate , what made you decied to get the 510 chemically dipped in the end ? I have watched all the 510 videos and you dont mention the reason , what gave you a heads up that there might be a problem ?🤔🤔🤔🤔
Yes, make that video and save any and everyone who could be (potentially) scammed by this Thailand git a ton of people's own money. Let other people know not to make your mistakes.
I couldn't rest knowing I'd knowingly sold a shit object or car in this instance. I'd happily lose money fixing X,Y,Z before parting ways. To hell with those fraudulent twats.
The turbo timer makes me suspicious! Has this engine been built to be turbocharged!? (Assuming they can be)?? Low compression too🤔, nackered or built that way???
@@MrHVlogsMore that’s a bugger, was thinking that it may have low comp pistons in so it could be/or was previously blown - especially with the car having that apexi turbo timer unit too!? No idea if these engines ever did get turbocharged aftermarket though like folks do with the Honda B16’s & K20’s etc!?! You plan on doing a tear-down of the engine once it’s out to see why it’s goosed!??
Oh man this sucks, I really hope the new engine works out and you can make the best out of a shit situation. You’ve had some terrible luck lately, bloody cars eh
With the work & money needed to put right, it would of been cheaper to go to Thailand first & look, worse case scenario you have a holiday. That's hindsight unfortunately. Call Car S.O.S.!
Alright Nate? Yeah the Thai Dealer is a right wanker. Do a video on him to let other people know they shouldn't buy any cars from him. Buyer beware, for sure.

Sorry to hear about your Toyota, Sir. Hope everything works out.
Its a shame, lesson learned dont buy cheap jdm cars from thailand. Still can be a cool car, once the engine is in

Also where's the Pulsar? :D

Small valve or large valve 4age replacement? I.e blue type on the head or black/red
I don't know much about cars, I collect model cars mostly vintage.
Probably the worst luck with cars ive heard ,hopefully it gets better for you nate ,yes please do the video on the importer

At this point just should have kept the 370z 😂

No this one isn't, it has the over fenders that ponretro make though
