      I was vegan for 14 years. If you need real evidence, look at real experiences and what was genuinely felt for so long. And check out real experiences from other ex-vegans, and no, we didn't do it wrong, many many years were spent on trying to be the most successful vegans. I guess we mostly only learn the hard way, sadly, especially vegans in this case, which is unfortunate for many, but maybe inevitable and meant to be to get us to a better place. • @ScrapKing73
      @ScrapKing73 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      There's no such thing as a vegan diet, though there is such a thing as a plant-based diet. Veganism is the philosophy of not exploiting animals. You can eat a whole food plant-based diet, yet not be vegan because you wear leather, etc. Dr. Greger does not talk about veganism, he talks about health research and recommends people eat an evidence-based diet, and you're apparently painfully unaware of this.

    This was the best video with dr. Greger in it on the whole internet, even competes his own! Because you asked the right questions! And it wasn't that easy to find an answer to the SIBO and the milk question. You made a good blood vessel related suggestion on the milk yourself, and he had no time to think deep enough about the SIBO in long term vegans it felt. I am sure we get even better answers to these in future. Thank you both!

    I choke out guys in my Jiu Jitsu classes and can train for hours. When people ask about my diet I say I exclude all things meat and dairy and eat plant base. The classic question is
    “Don’t you need protein like meat?”
    I’m like bro, I train two more hours than you and just maintained dominant positions and choked you out multiple times during our 5 minute sparring session 😂
    Does it look like I need meat!
    In seriousity, cutting out the meat dairy cheese eggs has helped me recover effectively. I can train 2-3 times a day without crashing towards the end of the week.

There was a lady at the hospital I had to visit who came in for a fracture after a fall-so not diet related visit at all-still active, lives alone at home, gardens everyday, goes for daily walks, visits her grandchildren, all at 92 years old!! She tended to eat around 11 am after gardening or walking in the sun, her highest meal, mostly fruit and veg, and then ate again for dinner, which was lighter and smaller. 2 bigger meals, the earlier one more calorie dense than the other, and thriving. This meeting was bound to happen at some point. I really appreciate hearing both of your perspectives on these topics. Many people fail to continue a vegan diet because they are experiencing ill effects that they cannot seem to find solutions for. We need more resources and practitioners who are equipped to help these individuals. I am dealing with malabsorption of nutrients in my body and this has shown up in my teeth, gum, tongue, and nail health. No idea what to do to remedy this, but I am searching for answers. Been on a WFPB diet for nearly 18 months eating a wide variety of fresh vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, and legumes. We are all so unique and require equally specialized solutions. That's one of the reasons why I struggle with the medical community and how they approach health and wellness. Broad spectrum solutions are not sustainable or reasonable in regard to human health.

    Great interview with many useful tips. The best thing came at the very end - the timing and size of meals really matters through the day. I've eaten small breakfasts and large dinners for decades, partly because I never felt hungry until close to midday. I went vegan a few months ago, and recently I've found the pattern starting to change, so I feel hungry very early in the morning, and this tapers off through the day, though it does vary a bit.
    The good doctor's advice about loading the calories towards the earlier part of the day makes sense, so I will now consciously make sure to eat a large breakfast, a smaller lunch, and eat less for dinner.
    Many sources also recommend allowing at least 12 hours break between dinner and breakfast, to allow the digestive system to rest - and of course a lot of the repair and maintenance work is done during sleep, so that's also good advice for optimal health.
