    I love the EltaMD uv restore! It's one of my favorites since I'm sensitive to chemical filters, even the newer Asian and European ones. Also, Undefined Beauty R&R Sun Serum is now my number one favorite! It's a full SPF 50 and has a great tint and the texture is so nice. It works great under makeup too! I love that they're both good for water and humidity resistance.
    Oh! And Pipette sunscreen is totally a dupe for the biossance one, and it's mineral 50spf. It's not water resistant though.
    I'm really interested to try the skinceuticals one!

    Thank you for this amazing review of SPFs. Love that you mentioned the Super Goop powder sunscreen. I'm a greasy girl and my skin is an oil slick by afternoon. I've shied away from the powders b/c I was always concerned about not being able to wash the brush (without creating pudding out of the powder). Glad the Super Goop people thought this through. YAY!

    I'm loving Black Girl Sunscreen right now and I'm a fan. I can use a very generous coat without feeling icky. It doesn't sting my eyes or taste awful if sweat drips into my eyes or mouth. The price is also very reasonable compared to most facial sunscreens, $16 on Ulta for 3oz. For reference, I have fairly normal skin, just a tad oily on the nose/chin, and mildly to moderately prone to acne unless I'm rigorous with my skincare. I've been using it for a month and haven't had any breakouts or even an isolated large zit, so it's definitely not clogging my pores. The only people I don't recommend it for are those who don't do well with plant oils or chemical SPF.

    • @marcustoone8899
      @marcustoone8899 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I’m also a Black Girl Sunscreen convert. I was fortunate enough to have been able to use both the 30 SPF, and the 45 SPF. I have yet to try the hybrid one, though. But, I am in love with the 45 SPF, as I am more on the oily side. Also, for the price, you’re getting great formulations.

      ☹️It makes me breakout perhaps because of the oils in it? Same thing with the EltaMD. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 60, is only SPF that works amazing for my sensitive, oil, and acne-prone skin. It mattes my natural oils, UVA/UVB, and no breakouts. Same thing with Neutrogena Ultra Sheer.

  • @Kay2be2mr

    As an oily makeup wearer, my main complaint is not cast because I tend to go for chemical. It's the finish of the sunscreen and how it interacts with the foundation's formula. If the sunscreen doesn't actually dry down and stays greasy, it makes it close to impossible to actually deposit foundation rather than pick up sunscreen on your sponge. It makes your foundation break apart, or easily rub off if you happen to touch your face. The only ones that have worked for me so far are Supergoop Matte Screen, but the texture is that of a thick primer, so using it as a sunscreen with the actual recommended amount is very difficult not to mention expensive. And the other one is Banana Boat Light as Air for the face. It actually dries down beautifully. I'm having a hard time finding it in drugstores which scares me that they might discontinue it only because no one talks about it. So if you're oily please go try it.

    • @karatalksaboutstuff7333
      @karatalksaboutstuff7333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ugh, it's so frustrating when you find a holy grail that it feels like nobody else is using, because you're stuck constantly wondering if/when it'll be discontinued! I've had that happen with THREE different sunscreens, and the last time it took me a full year before I found a replacement product I even liked. Wish I could help you with other recs, but I'm a dry, mineral-only, girly who doesn't wear foundation. Good luck! 🤞🙏

      Finding the perfect sunscreen with oily skin feels nearly impossible. I have a sensitivity to fragrance so it really narrows down for me. Currently using Garnier Green Labs spf 30 serum cream with hemp oil and niacinamide which I use as moisturizer as well but does feel slightly sticky & looks a little greasy. I've recently bought the Paula choice's spf 50 hydrating fluid which is much more lightweight but I've noticed sometimes when I apply it, my face gets itchy for a few minutes (doesn't happen every time which is odd). I haven't had an issue putting foundation over this one.

    The only sunscreens that don't burn my eyes like crazy are the Elta MD ones. Most other brands I have to wash after 5 minutes because it burns so bad.... even if I don't get it near my eyes and if it is non-chemical! So if anyone is having trouble with that, try Elta MD. Agreed. I’ve tried so many over the years. Living in South Africa we really need our sunscreen game to be on point 365 days of the year. I swear by Heliocare and use their tinted SPF over a primer as my day to day sunscreen as well as at the beach. Would love to hear what Dr Shereene says about it.

    I have tried the Spanish brand: Heliocare 360 Age Active Fluid PA ++++ for mature dry skin and OMG. This light liquid lasts an entire day in direct California sun. It's like nothing I've ever tried. I also like the French made SVR Creme SPF 50. This stuff is different. This is like the consistency of a light and thin kaolin mask, the texture of a primer, and my makeup looks stunning on it. It has a noticeable rose fragrance that fades fast. This also lasts *all day* in the central valley (California) sun on mature dry skin and *nothing* gets through. They're not like regular sunscreen "moisturizers" at all, so there's that to get over, but WOW, they kill it at blocking sun, and taking care of mature skin.

      Heliocare is amazing. I’m Spanish, so I have easy access to Heliocare sunscreens. They’re pricey (for our standards here) but absolutely worth it. I use their body foam sunscreen, the mineral one for my face and the kids version for my daughter. All of them are spf 50 PA++++

      Hi, everyone! Heliocare is one of the brands under the umbrella of *CANTABRIA LABS* (Spain). *Endocare, Neostrata, Biretix, Martiderm...* have the craziest most effective antiaging Vit A-ish, AHA, despigmentant formulations I' ve ever tried (Endocare contains actual tretinoine, indeed) but they have a huge problem: They need to translate the website, they need to understand how marketing works nowadays, send their products to the best pro derms on the internet so they can try and give a reasoned opinion. Otherwise, they are 💎such a hidden gem💎🥺 only known by us, little skin nerds🤷🏻‍♀️😅
      Best wishes from Spain 🧛🏻‍♀️🖤

    Hi Dr Idriss I really love the untinted version of the skinceuticals one featured here for my ultra dry, rosacea and eczema prone skin (the tinted one is like applying a tan makeup on my ultra pale skin lol). A less expensive alternative is the untinted spf50 from Avene - similar consistency and as I'm really white anyway, doesn't leave a white cast on me. On calmer skin days in the warmer months I use ultrsun spf50+ - really great protection and doesn't melt off the skin. Unfortunately despite having used the ultrasun for many years, if my rosacea is at all playing up I need to stick to mineral spfs. The purito and the BofJ both gave a fairly severe reaction on patch testing for me, as did the Altruist face spf. In the UK Avene is not a really expensive spf and I can usually buy it for £15 or around $20, which is much cheaper than the £42 for the skinceuticals. If I'm in the midst of a rosacea flare the best one I have found is the paula's choice calm mineral spf30 - never burns/stings and a go to during the colder months as it is quite hydrating (although I use all of them over moisturiser due to being ultra dry skinned). The ultrasun is too drying on me in the colder months btw and spf melting off isn't such an issue obviously. Best wishes.

    I prefer mineral sunscreens as well because of my ridiculously sensitive eyes and my absolute favorite is from Mad Hippie, minimal white cast, it absorbs fairly quickly and doesn't sting my eyes! For chemical sunscreens, aside from Beauty of Joseon, Mary & May makes an amazing one! It's the Cica Soothing Sun Cream and it doesn't irritate my eyes. Hope you check them out 😊

    My go-to SPF under makeup is SuperGoop’s “Unseen Sunscreen” - was recommended by Sephora years ago because the texture is more like primer so it does double duty. It’s basically clear so doesn’t leave a white cast. For touch ups I use either their powder (shown in video) or setting spray. For people who don’t like powders, there are a lot of spray/setting spray options for the face.
    Love how Dr. Idriss calls out makeup artists for skipping SPF. That’s my biggest beef with all these makeup tutorials. They’re skipping THE MOST important step.

    So happy Beauty of Joseson passed your test. I usually have sensitivity to traditional American sun screens. Luckily I have very pale, lightest foundation color, skin, so the white cast of mineral sunscreen isn't terrible. But I tried BOJ and loved it so much that I started putting it on every day without figuring out if I was going outside or sitting by a window. I don't re-apply it unless I am outside, but using it daily and automatically is a first for me. I have been worried it was a mirage. Great to hear my stock of six tubes of BOJ is worth having. Glad to hear about LRP too. Also was afraid to try Purito again so glad you reviewed it.
