Much respect to this guy for not taking the money and running. He showed heart and worked hard and came back stronger. Thats the right attitude for any aspect of life
Man I really remember when Dante Exum was drafted so high back in 2014 , and we all thought he was going to be special in the NBA , but those injuries really hurt him a lot physically But I’m glad he’s back in the league and he’s actually doing quite well , great video as always Andy
it's easy to think like that for many reasons: 1. Jokic was picked during the commercial so no one cared or remembered him at that time. 2. Both were picked in 2014 but none of them play in 2014/15 season, Jokic started 2015 after 1 year in Euro, Joel started 2016 after 2 years out of injury.
Yup. For those who don't know: FIBA World Champion EuroBasket Champion 9x EuroLeague champion 11x Greek champion 7x Greek Cup 4x Turkish champion 3x Turkish Cup Oh yeah, one of those EuroLeague titles came in his first season coaching... he retired and directly became Partizan's head coach...and became a EuroLeague winner despite not being able to play home games due to Yugoslav wars.Even Pop has a lot of admiration for him and has adapted some of his plays. His temper makes him not everyone's cup of tea, but the dude gets results. Kinda funny, early in the video Andy mentions that early career Exum had a rep for being "lazy" and yet....he rebuilt his career under one of the most hard-ass coaches out there.
I think players like Dante, who are in a slump or in a bad place, should try playing outside of the NBA. It seems people still underestimate the quality of Basketball in Europe. There's a lot to learn from playing in the Euro League
Exum hit the game tying 3 against the rockets. What a full circle. But the reason he's on the mavs is they have a jazz former front office on staff who vouched for him thankfully.
Well, sadly he is once again injured. Right when he had the possibly best stretch of games in his career... In December he averaged 14.5 PPG/3.5 RPG/4.5 APG while playing really good defense as well... and then... he played 2 of the last 15 games. I really hope he can stay healthy for the rest of the season, and years to come. Cause Dallas needs him, as crazy as this might sound.
Dallas needs a backup pg and he’s perfect for that role but they kinda tryna make him 3 and D and stand in the corner a lot of times and that’ll hurt him and them
@@liulbitew14 Not really. He normally is the 2ndary playmaker and advantage extender either next to Luka or Kyrie. He barely plays with both, and that would be the situation you are talking about.
I’ve been saying playing in Europe helps develop players skills dramatically. Just a different style of ball over there. So skilled and such high basketball IQ 1-5 over in Europe and you just don’t see that in America anymore. Teaches players so much about the mental part of the game and how it’s just as important if not more important than the physical part of the game.
as a european i was not surprised i saw him Matured in the European sceane and Be like " if the nba give him a shoot he would be impactful" i guess its could be the same for Jabari Parker Euroligue could be a good place for some to improve their game if they are not fiting USA AAU / Nba circuit i am sure of it
I remember him from 2k custom draft roster before he was drafted. Boy was a 99 in 3 years. You couldn’t tell me he wasn’t gonna be a star when he was drafted 😂😂
As a Mavs fan, I remember that game against the Lakers earlier this year where he was shooting the lights out. I had to do a double take because I couldn’t believe it was him! I didn’t even know we signed him. One of the best feel good comeback stories ever, and I’m glad he plays for my team! 🖤 #mffl
I lived in Utah during Exum's tenure. People were optimistic about him, but also even after a few years knew he wasn't what he was hyped up to be. Funnily enough, the Jazz are still benefitting from the Exum trade!
I remember when Dante was touted as being a good young piece for the Jazz to build around. Seeing him fall out of the league was tough. But he worked on his game, worked his way back and it’s great to see.
I was positively impressed. I had no expectation except for him to be the 3rd pg in the team but he’s actually solid. He’s missing some gare recently tough, saw a couple without Luka/KYrie/Dante and boy did the Dallas offense suffer
Bleacher Report called him the Australian Michael Jordan. I was a sophomore in highschool study hall 4th period. I’ll never forget because I was a Sixers fan and at that time we were tanking and I knew EVERY draft prospects ups and downs from those years I was a scout for no reason
I tore my ACL when I was 17, when I landed from a jump shot in training. It was not even in a game. It was a particularly cold day in the gym and we had a scrimmage. As a stupid kid and I didn't stretch and warm up when I entered the game from the bench. Also years later I found out that exactly the foot on that leg is leaning inwards, which contributed to the ACL tear. Definitely nothing to do with wear and tear, and can happen otherwise.
As a fellow Aussie I’m glad to see him back and doing well. That said while he did turn around his career in Europe, I feel like he owes a lot of his current success to Luka’s shot creation. If you dumped him on a worse team without a point god he wouldn’t be as impactful.
He was balling this season then went back to his old Utah home to show them what they're missing and promptly got injured. I'm sure the Jazz fans don't miss that😆 Seriously though I'm happy he's improved and hope he comes back strong again. Should be a model for other draft busts. Going back to Europe can help develop your game
i KNEW he'd come good...... if only a certain other Australian had of gone to Euro league to find his feet, maybe he wouldn't be copping so much shit now...... Ben (richest bench player in the NBA)
Never rlly paid that much attention to Exum but I thought he was let down by the Jazz bc he could have developed better if he got more touches and maybe if the system was more in his wheelhouse offense wise plus injuries didn’t help
I think the worst top five draft pick to have the worst statistical season as a rookie was Darko Miličić and that says a lot compared to Anthony Bennett and Kwame Brown
His 3 pointer last week vs the rockets that took the game to OT and later a win for the Mavs was so good to see, especially how happy his team mates was for him th-cam.com/video/k-xsckKkzig/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pSN0EWxL7EiO59Ex
People in the US should stop thinking that going to Europe is like going to the gulag ,yeah he's probably payed less ,but outside of that he's still making top 1% salary while doing what he enjoys .
I’ve been a fan of the channel for a while but just a suggestion to not use that background music over the beginning of the video. It’s loud over your voice and isn’t complementary to the video
Can we stop labelling players as busts just because they got ruined by injuries? Jabari Parker was very promising early in his career before he tore his ACL and was never the same. It would be more appropriate to call them stunted growth instead of the more derogatory and denigrative term known as bust.
@@OH_MY_DOGGG Social Media has degraded a lot of players more than ever. It's because of injury that the Mavericks aren't using him?! That is a shame ... because he earned his return to the NBA 🤔; Dallas could have used him during the playoffs

Really important factor in his return is impact of Željko Obradović, the greatest european basketball mind ever
Oh wow I didn’t realize Jokic and Joel were in the same draft!! That makes their rivalry even more intense!! Damn I’m old!!

Andy, you are the only NBA TH-camr that still makes content this thoughtful and high quality. I seriously appreciate the work you put in. Keep it up!!
I’ve always disliked him because of NBA 2K15 he was the rival and they made it seem like he was going to be a superstar. FOH with that
Great video as usual, Mr. Hoops. 👍

From a Foot Locker commercial before Exum got drafted. Lol.

I had to end his career cause he was talking too much shit in 2k15

Similar career to Shaun Livingston. Another big pg , lottery pick set back by injuries but ended up being a contributer off the bench for a good team.

Its difficult when there is a lot of rhetorical brainwashing in sports. So people take things at face value when its deeper than that.
