- This is a 1989 Citroen CX 2500 GTI.
Its been off the road since around 2007 and I got it really cheap!
But is it worth saving? And how bad is it?
the last million small things..

You're right about Owartrol. Amazing stuff! It saved my 1982 Leyland Sherpa van and I've been using it ever since.
I remember working in France in the eighties and early nineties. I was so surprised that Supermarkets used to have car parts, real car parts, such as brake parts, water pumps, lights drive shafts etc for all the common french cars of the time, they weren't all high quality cars but they were designed for the villager with simple tools to be able to maintain, so logic played a bigger part than it does now. Now they want you to bring to them, so they can cash in. Different game.
No water pumps in the french supermarkets, only common wearing stuff like brake pads, swippers, oil, oil filters, air filters, spark plugs, batteries…mostly in good quality European brands equal to original parts like Bosch, Valeo,Marchal,Purflux…
I'll be straight, it was a long time ago, so maybe the water pumps not, but what I do remembering was that we didn't have such easy access to such parts, as I had been a parts supplier in the UK by then. The fact that the people were expected to know what they needed astounded me. Surprisingly functional system for a people capable of self sufficiency through thoughtful design.

I love this channel and your taste in vehicles. Happy Thanksgiving from Boston!
You're so right about modern boring cars... I wish I could do the same 😞
Can't wait to see the next video!
why is it on moderns you need to remove the whole front end to replace a bulb? I just changed one on my Dacia Duster - the method is
1/ buy bulb ( not and LED of something an actual bulb )
2/ raise bonnet
3/ remove plug and cover at the rear of the headlight
4/ change bulb than reassemble by doing the reverse of the above.
Old tech is good tech
This has been an enjoyable little journey and quite interesting as there are no Citroens here in the US to speak of.
I can't believe how good that paintwork looks after you cleaned it.
Once shes MOTd.
After her polish owatrol make a renovator oil for faded plastic. It's brilliant. Suprise you audience.
Early Christmas for your car
Loving this series. It takes me back to holidays in France as a kid when these cars were everywhere. Always wanted one. I had a matchbox one I think.
You really did sum it up there. Having a fun vehicle just makes my day better. That's why I lifted a 2000 ford expedition and painting it with green bed liner. Also have a modern big screen stereo. 😃
Use owatrol on the bumpers, works wonders in taking them back to black
lovely old car. reminds me of my childhood
I can't wait to see it ready!
I feel you in regards to driving old unreliable cars. Currently I have no car because I was trying to change the engine on my old Peugeot and suddenly it started raining for 3 days straight and my work area got flooded, so that's on hold. But I would never again consider owning a boring modern car.
Owatrol against rust excellent. I have used it for decades...
It seems pretty awsome!
Please please please pollish the cx! I know its not your hobby! But it looks so good!
I will!
Im using Owatrol oil and Owatrol CIP on my Range Rover project at the moment. Its an interesting product when it comes to rust treatment as it soaks into the rust as opposed to just laying on top of it. The owatrol CIP then allows you to overpaint using strong solvent paints, 2k etc etc. In my case time will tell if its the miracle solution I was after or if its just another triumph of the marketing department. Im impressed with it so far anyway. Its a pity TH-cam comments dont allow one to post a picture. Loving the videos so far. 👍
What about a cavity sealing with wax or rope grease? Especially inside the doors and hoods...and sunroof ;-)
will do!
Hi Seppo, I think it is 'Scrap Yard' in UK. Old car graveyard, haha. Many thanks.
In my country we also call it graveyard😊
Looking forward to seeing this back on the road.
I have really enjoyed this set of vids of renovating a very deserving old car, that mercifully seems not to have had any major issues. I guess sometimes people just stop driving a car with fairly minor faults and then lay it up and store it. Depending on how well that's done, faults then may develop from lack of use, but these seem not so serious to fix. I wish you every luck with the MOT and daily driving this car - it's certainly not boring, for one thing!
It’s the talent of the guy working on it that makes it look it doesn’t have ‘major issues’ the work that has been done hasn’t corrected minor faults, it takes someone pretty dedicated to take that on as a winter daily.
great video. Typical citroen in that some jobs are so easy but others can be fiendishly difficult. I have a Dsuper 5 and that is the same. |Always great engineering to marvel at though.
Loving these CX videos. I have a GTi Turbo 2!
Envy!
Getting exciting now. Soon be roaring around in a very cool car.
Hi Seppo ,I agree about driving boring modern cars.I have recently purchased a Belingo diesel and though it is lovely and smooth I can't wait to get back in my 2CV .It just makes me smile. When I have finished with the Belingo repairs I will be selling it to put my AZU 250 on the road.
Great progress, good luck for your MOT.
Happy driving
Almost there, great job.
Another fascinating video and such a disciplined and methodical approach to getting the CX 2500 through its Danish MOT or NCT as it is called in Ireland, well done! Keep an eye on emissions. Are the Danish authorities more forgiving than the Irish ones for older cars?
its not that strict on cars before 1990
So curious how she will run !!!
Good luck on MOT 🤞 😊
Thanks
Thank you! :D
Looking super good
What glue did you use for the headlight glass?🙂
Let the bleed tubes run back to the hydraulic tank, just a tip.
Good tip if the fluid was clean! :) the stuff that came out at the beginning was black..
Good work!!
Det bliver den fedeste vinterbil syd for polarcirklen!
I was laughing when you said that you dont have a car to drive :D If there are more cars with plates at home than without... then life is boring :D
Haha currently 1 car on numberplate and 12 without... :P
@@SeasideGarage overhere you need to pay 1/4 of yearly tax if you have a car without plates at home. I mean, the tax is quite cheaper than it it in your country but this is madness on the other level :D
Harsh!
their reasoning was it will help the enviroment. what they managed to do was price of spare parts skyrocketed, because no one will take the car and dispose of it if it is not complete. So now some drug users that have nothing will buy the papers for 100€ cash, because if they have nothing and a lot of debt, the goverment cannot take anything from them. Its f***** up in my opinion.
@@SeasideGarage In Sweden car's are considered veterans when 30 years old and becomes tax free, as well as only 2 years between MOT instead of every 14 months. After 50 years of age no MOT is needed any more at all! And the insurance is often cheap on classics too. What are the rules for classics in Denmark?
11:42 with the "Blue Church" is that like an "Auto Jumble" where it is like a fruit market but for car parts...?
Very much a fruit marked for car stuff!
Haha Actually next day I remembered that in America is a "swap meet" :P@@SeasideGarage
Enig med deg .jeg har eiet over 30 citroens. C6 var min siste. Har en peugeot rcz nå men de gamle citroenbilene er forsatt mine favoritter.😊
"Boulangerie" 😂😂
:D
Great video thanks....
Please polish the car I would like to see it complete!
instead of a boring C1 maybe a "boring" C5 or C5 SW will be very good winter car...
hmm.. not sure I can live with it... :P
You have to polish the rest now, looks weird 😊
I will! but first a MOT! :)
Not long now 'til you're floating over the bumps in the road, of course saying that is probably jinxing it, so to counteract that I thoroughly expect everything to explode and dismantle like those clown cars do... :P
(but I do hope it passes and is a joy to drive!!!)
One shiny wing haha😅
:D
salt and cx 😩
Позорное крыло на последнем кадре )
If you ever want to get rid of this car , please let me know 🤔
All my cars will be passed on after a while... ;)
Cx…an unreliable class car? Pffft….wunna buy my NSU ro80? lol
Do you deliver?! :D
