We have an old 1989 L8000 that's a tanker truck for jet fuel and refuelling aircraft. It doesn't turn worth a dam or have the most power but you can tell just by driving it that it's built like a tank! among the 6 trucks we have in our fleet that old L8000 is probably my favourite if not it's tied with our tractor trailer which just so happens to be the L9000 lol.
I'm learning to drive the same exact truck right now. I'm 20 years old and never drove a rig. Been around them all my life but never had to get in it and do it. Hooked the 30' dovetail onto it over the weekend. Dad road with me and kept making me stop on hills and making me learn to work the brake with clutch and finding the right gear. Can't beat ol dad as your teacher!
17000 subscribers less then a year ago since this video you came a long ways tim , that's what good footage does for you. Love the videos as always take care.
Oh what an enjoyable laugh you provided and I needed that today. A backhoe operator that can't operate, a truck driver that can't drive and an old truck that doesn't work right, ha. I loved it and thanks for posting and sharing your sense of humor.
Tim, if you had been carrying something in that truck that you'd prefer that people didn't see, you can bet your bottom dollar that it would stay light for hooooours !!! When you want it to stay light - Bang ! it's Dark..... Great vid.
nice timing there brother. I've had my farm for 25 years. and I love to live on the edge. it just makes you love life and appreciate it. love the videos. keep them coming.
I cant believe I enjoyed bein in that Dump Truck with you, as much as I did...People try to hard to doctor theyre videos up...but you seem to keep it real...Thanks for your trouble.
Love to go Bass Fishing, and I've got my own gear. Love the truck, no lights, no speedometer, bad brakes, ... not a truck driver, but I can drive a truck, lol. Incredible.
Fun vid! give that old Ford a little Luv, it deserves some attention on the breaks and steering,, the lights, heck who needs lights, lol ! As always super fun, stay safe !!
hahah I love watching your videos. I agree with Brenton, "Because Jill Had Supper Done!" Best one yet! I just found an old L8000 For sale; they're good ole trucks. thanks for the videos!
On your steering, Make sure the King pins are getting grease everywhere and not on the way out. We had some just that the grease wasn't going to the top and one side was galling. It'll act like what you describe as it takes more power to turn as the pump is working harder to do it. Just a thought if you get some time to check it. You can jack the front end up and turn to see if there is a bunch of drag.
A working man needs his spuds 😊 keep the vids coming and I appreciate the work and effort you put into sharing your ever interesting and inspiring life with us. Thank you
Boy, you sure did cut it close brother! Still, no fun if there's no risk. Planning on doing a headlight repair video on the truck some time? Love the content man, keep it up!
with air brakes, that truck is pulling to the left when you hit the brakes because the driver side steer axle brake is set tighter than the passenger side. use a tape measure to measure how far the rod on the chamber is coming out and set each side to one inch.
I don't know if it was quite as dark as it seems on camera but you sure cut it a bit close! I think your truck needs a bit of rainy day loving and TLC to get it safe for you and other road users -perhaps it is as simple as just a fuse for the headlights and some oil in the power steering reservoir but the brakes need sorting properly!
Funny you say that this isnt a truck for beginners, weve got one at my work as a water truck to keep dust down around the yard and we work with salt so the things rotted to hell but before working here ive never driven stick and i hopped on this thing and i drive it everyday layin water down no problem, im 20 and i havent even driven a manual car before but i have no problems in this i actually really like it, for how old and rotted it is its a really tough and powerful truck and gets the job done and never fails it may not be fast but its probably the most reliable and comfortable machine in this yard and we have new Komatsu loaders that break more than this rig
+Logger Wade it's work to do but it's worth it. Thank you Wade and I'm finishing a video right now that's something I'm doing y'all haven't seen me do yet.
Thanx for the vid Tim. Close to 10K! I've been a sub since 2500 or so. Logger Wade said to check you out. Also thanx for the gear info. Not a small investment.
Seems like that old Ford pulls pretty good!! I'm an Independent Owner Operator myself, with a 1999 Peterbilt 357 tri-axle. I know quite a few guys that have the older Ford Trucks though and they all seem to do pretty well with them. I certainly wouldn't be afraid to own one if the right deal came along. By the way..........just curious what motor and transmission you have in that truck? Also, it looks like your truck is a tandem? How heavy can you legally operate where you're at? Just curious! Keep up the good work. PS: You're maybe not a trucker, but it sure looks like you can hold your own (That's meant as a compliment)!!
Hey man when you start down a hill, when in doubt, always go to a lower gear. Better safe than sorry. You seem to me to be a good driver, just because you also do other things doesn't mean that you are not a driver. I used to drive over the road and before that had about 27 years as an engineer. Driving gets in the blood, makes it very hard if you have to quit.
Yeah, sometimes you just gotta put it in the money hole and drop the hammer ! Understand on the supper thing, if you don't get it while you can, it probably won't be there when you get back ! 😊
old as it is it still sound good to me brother, I can drive that dump truck and run that escavator I got caterpillar 330 Keys D6 Dozer d-8 dozer 120 excavator I wrote them all brother I love it make the video longer brother keep them coming brother I would love to fish in that pond brother I know it's a big bass is in there I love fishing brother
Tim love watching you up shift without the clutch that is the way I drove for years. That old Ford still got lots gidy up go. You have to learn to downshift without the clutch LOL.
Looking at buying a 1994 Ford l9000 dump truck with a 270 Cummins 10 speed. Anything look for specifically on these truck known problems. How many ton Can You Haul with yours, what's the top speed range can you run the freeway. Trying to find this information online but so far no luck. Yonder subscriber here thanks and if you reply I greatly appreciate it
There was a dump truck driver, I know who stopped at a Walmart, bought two of those big flashlights and some duck tape, and some big plastic ties and attached them to his front end and drove about 50 miles back to his shop that way! Don't ask me why he didn't just fix the broken ground wire that went to both headlights. Because I don't know the answer to that question! LoL!!!
Great video by ya made me nervous seein' ya glance down several times at your phone while driving the dump truck to your sisters. Are there any distracted driving laws down there? Up here in Canada talkin' on the phone while driving(or watchin' your phone to see what your GoPro sees)would get ya in big trouble.
Why didn't I take it earlier? because Jill had supper done. That's one of your better lines, I can appreciate a man with priorities!!!LOL
+Brenton Medders LOL, good stuff!
Your right! When your wife spends time cooking supper, you should do your best to spend time with her eating it ! Thanks, enjoyed this video!
Your not the only one who has had to beat the dark in old truck with no lights, lol!

One thing about old Tim he does not believe in stopping at interaction. That is a little more than a California roll.

That dumper looks like a bit of a rough ride. Lol.
Same here. I was hitting the start and stop.
You were glancing down more than to hit the Start/Stop, with oncoming traffic too.
+Keith Brettell that's correct, I was glancing down making sure everything was framed, recording while I was driving, with oncoming traffic.
Whats under the hood of that old Ford?
+MichaelTJD60 cummins 8.3
Just found it in an earlier comment. It has an 8.3L Cummins.
