I'm always still amazed at how far trucks have come in just over 30 years. I started driving in 1992 and worked for a guy who assigned me a 1978 White Road Boss with a 318 Detroit. I was watching this video and hearing the GPS giving her directions and thinking, "In that old Road Boss with the screaming Jimmy, I'd never be able to hear a GPS".
The GPS is not even part of the truck, American trucks look like they did 30 years ago, still mostly unsynchronised transmissions. Don't get me wrong, i love how they look, i'm just used to more practical (european) trucks, where at least the GPS is built into the truck ;)
A little know tip lost since the invention of power steering: BEFORE stopping while reversing, start cranking the wheel just as fast / hard as you can in the opposite direction ( the way you want the truck to go when you start in the other direction ). Then start rolling forward and you're halfway there, going in the direction you want. No trying to turn the wheel while stopped, or starting to go forward and Then start turning. In other words, plan ahead . . .
Roger that. I hate seeing people dry steering a vehicle. Hard on the steering components as well as the ashphelt underneath. Your right seems to have been a lost technique, You see dry steering too often now days
Yeah, I too let the vehicle to roll when turning the wheel. Now with automatic trans, people step on the brake while turning and cause excessive strain on steering gear! All my vehicles are still on OEM steering racks and pumps as a result!
Exactly, that's the way we all did it back in the day both on trucks and cars without power steering, turning the wheel while the vehicle is still in motion, however slow to "soften" the steering wheel and to also minimize wear on the tires by lessening their friction against the pavement.

I am amazed to see you’ve got a cat and a dog in the cab. Regarding those streets, the issue is more with the big American tractors, not really meat for tight orders, isn’t it. They were built for long straight roads, I guess. That’s why in Europe there are cab overs. Good job! I never drove an 18 wheeler but towed A 32' travel trailer.
