    Looks like the novelty of that project went flat about eight and a half minutes in! Oooffda as we say here up Nort! I very much dislike trying to rip hardwood with a crosscut chain.

    I took an explosive class at Omni Distribution in Memphis once and guys from a hardwood mill in Tennessee were there to learn to use detonation cord. They were going to saw a kerf in logs then push detonation cord into kerf and set it off to split logs

    Just curious..... could you have sold these big logs for firewood and made any money?

  • @perrinpartee557
    @perrinpartee557 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man I wouldn’t do that around here in south AR lol. But I don’t know their market/mills and what was going on at that time. Stumpage price on oak logs 60-65/ton vs hardwood pulpwood 10-15/ton. Possibly go lower with domtar mill not taking hardwood pulp anymore. Is it because it wasn’t enough to make a load? Curious to know!

  • @storemannc
    @storemannc 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wood they not be worth more to you sold to a hardwood mill ? Or I guess may not be enough for a load . I had a small logging operation years ago. Good labor was our biggest problem. Enjoying your channel.

      lil00chevy you have to split big logs to feed into the chipper. Here in East Tennessee I don't think they will take anything over 26" or 30". Most of our chip wood goes to the paper mill and some goes to the biomass power plant in Wise, Va.

    Tim...In our area of Eastern, VA the residential tree companies will take hardwood logs like that and drop them in a homeowners front lawn and charge them $100/cord. When split oak is going for $225 - 250 a cord people with saws who burn wood are happy to get it. No market where you are for something like that?

    Why didn't you just rip the ends through and cut a large enough notch to get the grapples in and bust them open that way? Just bite it in there and roll them around, they pop right open. No pounding your guts out. That's just my two cents worth of free advice
