@@Chris_F The jumping out of the corner one helped me the most!! I honestly had no idea what to do in the corner, I always jumped straight up, and I just got messed up haha. I never thought of jumping forward out of the corner 😆
Good tips. I have a lot of trouble using drive rush in general. I never know just when to use it from neutral. The worst is when I go for a low punch out of DR and it comes out is a DP.
try not to use it from too far away, it get's easier to defend from it. just throw some jabs and lows, move backward and forward to distract the opponent and then dry rush to keep them guesing; sometimes go for a low, others for an overhead and others for a grab.
If you’re getting a DP that means you’re hitting down-forward before your drive rush. Try to focus on going back to neutral before hitting forward for your drive rush
I've had some success jumping back vs grapplers by recognizing when their throw whiffs and immediately drive rushing as soon as I land, which results in an optimal combo in some situations, EG DR + Punish Counter St.HP then Cr.HP as Ken. The upside is there's less risk they'll be able to pull off their anti neutral jump fakeout, the downside is if they late throw instead of command grab, you'll have lost a punish opportunity. I guess it all depends on the opponent.
Absolutely depends on the opponent, you pretty much nailed it and I couldn’t agree more. I find most intermediate players don’t have enough awareness to back jump and react which is why I recommended neutral jump
Pretty much, the risk reward depends on the options your opponent goes for. However, as for the more optimal combo, neutral j.hk actually does more damage.
I'm not sure if you should always buffer DR after long range cancellable normals. Even if you have a lot of gauge. I feel like if you DR cancel a normal on block and your opponent takes the throw, they won the interaction. And I they DR cancel on my block when they are in the corner, I'm drive reversaling most of the time.
The best habit to form is to always drive rush cancel just outside of your effective range. This way, if you whiff punish an arm or leg you will always get the punish combo and if the opponent doesn’t push a button you won’t get the drive rush
Good video, I was definitely guilty or number 5, as I try not to go HAM and to play smart, I found myself in the corner often and getting randomized by throw loops and random players.
I am stuck in Platinum for a while and I admit that I have made most of these mistake - also, it takes a lot of practice to implement them and other in-fight strategies.
1:07 alright I do wanna bring something out about this being the ONLY time you should use this. What about on wakeup when you know the opponent is going to grab or hit you and you don't wanna make that guess? If they block it, it's bad yeah. But again this is when you KNOW they'll do it. I was very confused about ONLY OD version working on wakeup for a while as i'm used to anti airs being an at least alright wakeup option.
Agree with all of these, but I ain’t gonna stop going for high-risk options lol Win or lose, if it’s fun I’ll go for it outside of a competitive setting
