They try to say they polluted to much. But that is a bunch of crap. New cars are made the same way. with all this electronic bullshit. They don't want them to be easy to service, and they are designed with parts that fail, ensuring you spend more money. God damn the 21st century.
Two stroke diesels could not pass modern day emission standards. If it weren’t for that I’m sure these engines would still be produced. Best sounding Diesel engine by far!
I’m not too much on some of the old IH trucks, but that is one sharp little single axle rig. 🥰 I like single axles. Sounds good. I remember seeing some of those out on the road back in the day.
My dad had one similar to this when I was a kid. Can’t remember the year, but it was a Red Fleetstar 2000 twin screw with a NA 230 Cummins. He said they were everywhere back in the day, but eventually their steel cabs rusted away.
Boy does she sound good buddy, only if she had a Jake on her! Nice video... Thanks take me back in time and i think about my loving dad who left this world. 👍👍
John Johnson It does have a jake. It says so in the description, and if you listen closely you can hear it. It’s just quiet because the exhaust is properly muffled.
One fine way to turn diesel fuel into smoke and noise! The best part is when, after hearing all that sound and fury from the 2 stroke, we get a glance at the speedo and it's barely doing 40 mph!
I remember being about 5 years old and bailing off into an old international just like this at the fire department my dad used to volunteer for it had a 6v71 Detroit i wish i had that truck now...... havent seen it in 13 years ....
My dad's oilfield would have been tons better off with DD in their binders! They had 2 gas burners with the 304 a tandem with a vapor locking 345!! Tons of torque no speed man!! Lol!!
After I listen to it again I could here it was just a 6-71. Sometimes hard to tell on videos. Either way its a detroit cant go wrong there. Im a Caterpillar and Detroit fan. Growing up with a trucker father and then I did some driving before I became disabled we both always had Cats
It sounds more like an Inline configuration, but it can't be anything else than a 6-71 ;) They normally push at 2000-2500 RPM, but being 2 strokes it sounds like it's revving as a demon ;)
FOX-POP-YT yeah one of the reason I love Detroit's many don't even know its a 2 stroke and think the engine is going to blow. 2000rpms sounds like 4000rpms.
2stroke detroits are made that way keep them wound up high and they will take care of you .just wind her up high and keep oil in her she will do the job. Best engine ever bilt.
These were decent trucks at the Mov. & Stor. Co. we had 1 Then we had a newer 1974 that I drove for awhile.. It was a 74 I drove it in 76 it had sat in the garage brand new for 2 years before they put it on the road. also had to brand new 74 Diamond Reos That didn't see the road until 76.. They were funny like that the owners.
I read the comments from the folks get all nostalgic about the sound of a Detroit Diesel. Take it from an old truckie: those suckers were loud. It didn't matter what make of truck that you drove they were all the same. If you didn't wear earplugs, and I always did, you came home with a headache that took a handful of aspirin and a six pack to cure
Haul water with an s2500 with a silver 6v92ta. Thing is fun!! I described it as an 855 and a tall deck 427 had an illegitimate child. To your point day in and day out no but for 2-3 weeks in the summer hell ya!!!
ROTAXD A non-turbo 2-stroke Detroit is considered naturally aspirated. The roots blower that is required to make the engine run is just that: a blower. It’s not a supercharger in this application because it only raises the intake air pressure slightly above atmospheric pressure.

Total dork the detroit was and is bad ass 2 stroke and one of first non gas in USA they run hard can abuse em over Rev em and keep feeding her oil 1go 2work pissed and drive like u stole it
The reason they don't make trucks this simple and reliable anymore is obvious. There isn't enough money to be made in these old bulletproof designs.

Drove a IH just like it.
Luv to hear that Detriot
BARK. NOTHING ELSE SOUNDS LIKE IT. 👍👍
First truck I ever drove, for Uncle Sam. 6-71 with a 10 speed Road Ranger, without a trailer it was like a 13,000 lb sports car...
acceleration so good it would throw u in your seat
Who else is here because of Snowrunner?
Yup
All the engines need to be louder in snowrunner
@@blitzkriegt-1650 I've turned off the music which amounts to much the same thing. I miss the background wildlife noises from MudRunner

not I but i understand why people would. wish snowrunner got the sound right tho...

Ahhhhh. The sound of a Screaming Jimmy. Music to my ears!
A fine looking IH. That engine won the war.
Oh I just got a bone from the sound of that Detroit
Man do I ever love that color.must have been a fire truck
What my dad drove in the 70’s. Miss those ride alongs in that fuel hauler and that sound.
I do love the sound of 2 stroke Detroit Diesels.
This man slammed his thumb in the door.
Shoulda slammed his whole hand in the door then that thing would have worked properly. He didn't abuse it nearly enough.

I’ve always loved how these things sounded like they’ve buried the speedometer 3 times over, but they’ve barely hit 40mph.

How many galons per mile are you getting wiht this lovely lady?

need some fresh videos of this truck!
That old lime green babe has power for days doesn't she
Great looking and sounding truck
My dad had a 2000 day cab twin screw, no 238, just a 230 nonturbo Cummins.

Would have been nice to have seen a bit more of the truck.
Looks good sounds even better
Got to love 2 strokes. They sound like they are pushing way more RPMs then they actually are. What size detroit you have in there? 6v-71?
It has a inline 6 71. I'm sitting on the dog box in the cab.

grinding and craming the gears seems to be the way
It ain't your rig, mind your business
It’s a Detroit Diesel that’s just how you drive it!
That Detroit with those gears is just a little bit ridiculous.
I love it.

good Ole 6V71 natural aspirated Detroit diesel engine with a stick shift 5-10 speed manual transmission
Calvin Crews none of em were natrually aspirated. All needed a supercharger to run. Turbos were an option.

I have buried the speedometer past 80. It just takes a while to get there.
so it doesn't explode when you go on the expressway?
John Doe no, it does
