    This is a bestifully demonstrated video. As a TH-cam mechanic apprentice of 4 years, this is one of the most helpful clear cut and illustrated video. 0 b.s straight to the point. You should be the fucking template to all other dyi videos.

    Thank you for a video that was straight and to the point. I am a professional mechanic and don't need all the production with my vids. You gave enough instruction even a novice could do the repair but got right to so a seasoned pro isn't impatient.

  • @GamingWithStoners
    @GamingWithStoners 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The bolt that wasn’t there is a 14mm just as a FYI also car sometimes goes into “limp mode” when disconnecting the battery and to fix that just put the key it turn to “on” do not start the vehicle wait for dash light to disappear then slowly press gas all the way down and then take foot off of gas slowly and turn key to off. This will take it out of limp mode.

    That pigtail is actually a revision from Jeep. The new TBs use a single row connector so the pigtail is spliced in to make it work. The problem is that the new Jeep part isn't any better than the original, which is why this Jeep supplied TB in this video failed again.

      I’m replacing mine with old stock so the original connector will work. Chrysler changed the vendor for these throttle bodies apparently. Don’t thing there was any changes for reliability but the cover is held on by clips which makes inspection easy if it’s ever needed I’ve seen gear sets for the old style but can’t locate them any longer. I’ve got a pile I’d like to refurbish lol

      @@kg4muc The only TB I use in these Jeeps are aftermarket Hitachi. Any Stellantis supplied TB is garbage and Amazon Chinesium replacements are worse. I've never seen a Hitachi replacement fail.

    My situation is with a 2014 Jeep compass and the dealership provided the same six straight pin throttle body that you show in your video with all the purple wiring harnesses.
    Is there a chance the dealership gave me the wrong one? As it seems like in your video you are having to do the opposite of what I'm having to do (but now I'm wondering if the wrong situation that you described with all the purple wires is the situation that I'm about to have to do)...

    I had my throttle body replaced on my 14 Jeep Patriot two years ago by the dealership. Recently went out again and I decided to replace it myself. Turns out they did the exact same thing with putting a different pigtail on to make the throttle body plug fit. Now I’m struggling to find a pigtail that fits the throttle body I already bought, which would be the original pigtail.

    • @brianrunnells3289
      @brianrunnells3289 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bro.... exact same thing here. that makes three of us. probably 100's more out there. so this is obviously a purposeful manufacturers fix. Maybe had wrong plug in's installed in a batch of replacement throttle bodies and changing to a single pin wiring harness was the cheapest fix? and now we are stuck having to change back to double row pins. Bro was your wiring purple as well? Oh and im about to start looking for the proper pig tail, did you have luck finding any?

    Mopar came out with a new throttle body for the Patriots. The purple wiring harness is part of the new (also correct) Moper kit 68420395AB. MasterJack reverted his repair to the old style throttle body 4891735AD. After market versions are available in both pin styles so you have to be careful.

      why did they do this mate? i just got quoted $2100 from a jeep dealer in australia to replace mine and swap the pigtails, yet i have just gotten the old style of TB from ebay for $80, was it connector issue that causes failure or internal gears on the TB? are the ebay TBs okay? seems like it is made somewhat okay.. do you know if they were a warranty item/recall in the US?

    • @ohger1
      @ohger1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CaleMessner It's not a connector issue. More than likely, Jeep changed OEMs, probably for an off-the-shelf item that would bolt in place. Instead of the OEM modifying the internal connector for Jeep which would be expensive, they just provide a cheap pigtail. I don't trust those Chinese ebay/amazon throttle bodies.

      Are the after market ones with the original connector better than the ones supplied by Chrysler?

    • @epiqk11
      @epiqk11 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ohger1I was wondering about something similar. All of the regular auto parts stores have the throttle body for around $275. The listings online are around $100 to $125. The one I'm looking at is from A1 auto parts. Should I trust these places or just pay more so I know what I'm getting?

    • @ohger1
      @ohger1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@epiqk11 The only TB I will use on this Jeep series is a Hitachi. I've had Jeep OEM TBs crap in a year, and the Chinese ones often don't work out of the box or fail in weeks. I think Rock Auto carries them. I've never changed a Hitachi TB twice. Worth the money and it uses the original style connector so no cut and splice.

    Long shot on a response here. I bought a aftermarket throttle body from o rileys. I’ve having this wiring bs issue. If I go to a scrap yard and find the original throttle body it’s a simple plug and play at the point ? I haven’t tried to re wire to make the new one work. Original wire system to the throttle body

    • @MasterJacks
      @MasterJacks  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You might try googling "20XX Patriot throttle body pigtail" to see if you can find a harness/connector that will match your new throttle body. The junk yard idea would probably get you a direct fit, but who knows how long the used throttle body would last as they're prone to failure.
