  • @peterberrett181
    @peterberrett181 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks Rory. Can you confirm. To get the camera plus telscope in focus you simply focus on the brightest star first then use the mount to align? I have a skywatcher 130p + skyscan alt/az mount + canon 450d but I find that the stars are too faint to show up in the viewfinder despite the iso being set at 1600 and using the lowest f stop.

    • @peterberrett181
      @peterberrett181 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My problem may be that when I try and focus on things very far away my camera can't get close enough to the telescope. To focus things in the far distant the lens needs to be additional cm or two closer to the mirror. Welcome to Dante's inferno.

    • @Astrobiscuit
      @Astrobiscuit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to chop my 130 down to reach focus. always easier to do it in the day but I think you've figured that out. It may be possible to employ longer bolts at the back to push the mirror a few cm down the tube so you can reach focus.

    • @Astrobiscuit
      @Astrobiscuit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      fyi f stop shouldn't come into it... I'm surprised you are even able to change the f stop. just checking but have you removed the lens?

    • @PWBERRETT
      @PWBERRETT 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Astrobiscuit Of course! After some research I think I have found a solution. The Canon EOS to M42 adapter I was using is a bit thick. I have ordered an ultra thin one which should move the camera about 1 cm closer to the telescope focal point.
      There is another solution and that is to use a barlow which moves the focal point to where the camera can focus but that affects the field of view.
      If all else fails I have a new Raspberry Pi camera with telescope fitting which will sit right close up to the focusser. That might make for a useful portable camera setup for my telescope. The Raspberry Pi is a small single board computer that runs Linux and they have just released a new high quality camera module for it. And its all cheap.

    You can buy a wifi add on for the mount whcih means you don't need to touch it for alignment and adjustment. Worth it in my opinion. Question though. Having aligned the mount and gone to a planet, say Jupiter using the controller. How does one set the mount to track Jupiter?

    • @Astrobiscuit

      I now have the newer version which is WiFi... and controllable with my phone. much better. basically if you have everything level and the scope poi ting in the right direction it'll track jupiter fine

    So, this scope looks like the Skywatcher Startravel 102 SyncScan AZ GoTo... if it is, does it work for beginner level Deepsky imaging? Awesome video, a bit "unorganized" but awesome!.

    • @Astrobiscuit
      @Astrobiscuit  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Simple answer: yep totally works for beginner level deep sky imaging.
      More complicated answer: the set up is great but the maximum exposure time is 45 seconds and probably 30 seconds is a safer bet ( FYI Longer exposure times allow you to get fainter objects). Still there are loads of galaxies and nebula that you can get with this set up + some of the modern cameras with low read noise work really well with lots of short exposures. A more expensive driven equatorial mount would allow longer exposure times but also an added bit of difficulty. ;-)

    • @Sharpless2
      @Sharpless2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome!! I got a Nikon D3400 and the Noise really isnt a problem, so 30 second max exposure is all i need. Thanks for answering, now i know what im getting next bday!
