I have one, it had the i5, it now has the same i7 as this one. Also upgraded the screen to a 1080p screen. 16GB RAM, SSD, removed optical drive and installed a second HDD. It's been a beast for generic work, internet use, and watching videos. Even do some Premiere work on it and it it does well.

I bought this laptop, used, 4 years ago - 12GB RAM 1 TB Storage. Not a single problem to date! I mostly use it for work but It can handle a few good games. I can run Sims 4, Counter Strike and GTA 5 at low settings. Newer games not so much. It is really bulky, so a chore to carry around and does not really look too impressive next to the sleek thin models at work. But it is very reliable in my experience.
If you do get one with a dedicated graphics card, and you purchase this for around 150 USD. Well then what you have is a budget gaming laptop. And you're also 2012 rich because these were expensive when released.
Yes Hp 8570p elite laptop i love it very hard working i7 cpu quad core 16GB ram 480GB solid state drive .I love my laptop with a little bit more weight.
I have one of these I bought and upgraded with an SSD and some extra RAM over time. I also have a USB soundbar, as I found the built in speakers abyssmal. I used it for the entirety of my paralegal 2 year program, as well as to watch DVDs and stream videos. I payed $350 USD BUT got a package that came with the laptop, battery, charger, an HP branded USB mouse and keyboard and the docking station!

Hi Mike just a correction on the sim card. You have to remove the battery then you get the sim card slot at the back inside the battery bay. Have my old 8570P from 2013 and only issue picked up is with the CPU cooling heatsink. I gave my daughter my new 18 month old HP and back to my "prehistoric" 8570p. Just much smoother than the new one running up to nine open apps at a time with 16Gb memory.
I just placed an order for the 8570p, i definitely got a very nice one. It has the 3720QM processor, i love the bulky heavy laptops. I own two, HP intel core i7 3820QM processor 8570W laptops. HP don't build them like that no more, those where in my option. The very best laptops, a real gem.
Yeah, it's a bulky machine that feels solid. I also have a 8460 i7 that I've been reviewing. I plan on keeping it since it's so comfy to type in and still pretty powerful even though it's 10 years old. Plus Linux helps :)

Mine is not working. The screen is completely black but I hear the fans and everything running. I tried and external monitor but it says input not recognized. I tried swapping RAM with other spares and still not working. I tried changing the CMOS battery and still not good. Where is the graphics card for this? I think it may be it but I do not know where it is.
the little space on the front is for the bluetooth module, if you do not have one built in to the wifi card. The Sim slot is in the battery compartment

I have this laptop too however unfortunately ive been having various problems with it, mostly with thermal throttling/shutdowns worst of all recently it does not even turn on. The lights come on but no screen or any sign of life of the CPU doing anything, just the hum of the fan and thats about it. Ive tried doing BIOS recovery via a USB flash drive and it worked but about 2 months later and the same issue came back and i tried the same method and now it does not work. any solutions?
I got one of these when I was desperate, mine came with a radeon graphics card which gave me the needed display port to run my cintiq for digital art. This thing worked great, and at very low voltage, granted mine is an i5-3something. Great little computer considering I got it for $150 refurbished. I eventually upgraded to a budget computer, but I miss having a janky little computer, and am down grading back to this laptop until I get a optiplex 9020sff setup to be my digital art station. The best thing about this lap top is the keypad, because I love using it while doing excel sheets, and even better is it cannot play games, because otherwise that's all I'll ever do.
I have an 8560p, I've upgraded its motherboard to a 8570p of this model (686970-001). Nearly everything is compatible, except for the processor (Sandy to Ivy), and the daughter board that provide the audio port and the two usb port on the right side). Work great, especially with a I7 quadcore. On Aliepress finding part at very good price is easy ! (way more than Amazon).
I have its little cousin, the 8460p. I have the second gen quad-core i7 in here, 16GB of RAM and a 240GB SSD, and believe it or not, Windows 11. I've had no problems with drivers apart from the fingerprint scanner. For that, I had to use a Lenovo driver because it was the same module. The only real complaint I have is the display, the viewing angles are absolutely abhorrent.

For some reason the previous owner disabled the dedicated graphics and has it running on the integrated graohics. I want to swap in a 1060m but i am unable to switch the video source. Hello Mike, I own one of these and recently got myself an additional thinkpad, because I wanted to install Linux mint on it, next to a windows system. Windows ran fine on it, but under linux it seems impossible to control fan speed and it can´t get this quiet enough to work on it. Now I am pondering to use my old HP instead and trying a double boot, maybe fan speed is controlable with linux on the HP? Lenovo seems to be impossible to manage that.....
I have a 8570W and a 8470W that I use religiously for DJing and I've upgraded both of them with SSDs. Both i7s with 8 gigabytes of RAM. Will probably never replace them as long as they keep working. I wish HP would rerelease these in a same design but slimmer form factor. Very fast computers both on Windows 10 pro.
The w series also has dedicated graphics cards provided by either Nvidia or ATI 1gb or 2gb depending on the specifications of the model you get. My 8470W has 1 GB of dedicated ATI graphics and my 8570W has 2 gigabytes of dedicated ATI graphics. I play Grand theft Auto on both of them and it plays them very well.

Ive had a used EliteBook 8570p since 2016. It has done its job and served well so far. But im definitely gonna get a new laptop or desktop soon. So im not only limited to playing older games. Newest game that has ran smoothly on it is Fallout New Vegas which is from 2010. Im sure it could probably run Skyrim 2011 aswell.

@@MikeDancy In Australia maxing out a t430 or t440p isn't worth it at that point you may as well get a ryzen 5 laptop from lenovo, with actually decent graphics or one with Intel and nvidia mx graphics

Sounds like you need to take it into a computer shop. It could be failed thermal paste between the processor and the cooling tube.

apple tvs and firesticks are cool and all but nothing beats an old laptop running fedora as a media center on a 65inch tv.

That workstation series not the P-Series has a backlit keyboard on the 15.6-in models only. Just a FYI.
If you need help installing Windows 10 on it I can help you with that. It was a breeze on both of my computers.

you mean for keyboard? that's only on the workstation models, eg 8570w, not 8570p

Honestly your better off getting a Lenovo thinkpad t430 or t440p with the t440p you can get 1080p ips screens
