  • We have added extra key line cuts to help hydrate the soils on one of our gentle slopes on the farm. After seeing the success of the original key line cuts the time had come to add extras. The spans between these cuts are around 10 - 15 Mts ensuring we capture every millimetre of rainfall and concentrate on smaller areas to hydrate and promote soil fertility and re vegetation.

Awesome job. We're in Victoria too...could do with some more rain. We're regenerating our land to wetlands, I've found your videos very helpful. Cheers

    Good job on the Keyline.
I was lucky & found a 3 tyne yoemans in a clearance sale that no one knew what it was.
Have seen some great improvement after one year.
Have you run your line on contour or slightly off to direct water to ridges.
Would lend you the plow if we lived closer.
Hope you get some rain this week. 🍻

Hey There, These cuts are just on contour. We have received some rain since making the video and they worked a treat. I've been following your channel and you to are making great progress. Thanks for the offer to use the yeoman. It all takes time, make sure you make time to enjoy the the efforts. Take care. Cheers

Ever thought of adding a few extra swales higher up?

Hi Rob, We thought about adding extra swales however its just more about the ground for cattle. We like to keep the swales fenced, if the cattle are with the swales they are very prone to damage. Cheers

Any chance of getting some Drone Video for reference to compare in 4months, 8 months and so on. It's all in context isn't it - up here near Bundaberg at this time year we would call 25mm rain and be glad to get it, whereas in the Summer we would'nt count it as being worthwhile as it would have dried away by the end of the next day. What you are doing is investing in the future and increasing the "effective" rainfall, if effect storing the rain event underground. In the past it would have all run off the property and be on its way - I keep comming across the paradigm of it being 7 years to achieve hydration and I don't know where this comes from as what the soil type under our feet must have some bearing on this magical figure of 7 years. I have been pushing this on our block for some years and wish I had taken more images for future reference/comparison. I have seen Alan Savoury say the same thing in his videos. In videos from Malloone Creek where they have been at it for longer time spans, they say that the creek is Dry at the top of the properties but there is permanant water running out from the bottom.

Hi Terry, the figures that cross my desk are 5 - 7 years which is spot on. I'll look into a drone camera - that makes heaps of sense. The other half won't be happy - more toys. Cheers

G'Day mate, it all looks great to these tired old eyes. Just to get off topic for a second, you were talking about fixing the door on your "cool-room" a couple of posts ago. I came across the following video by accident and immediately thought of you. I hope that it helps... th-cam.com/video/DXcnbdHcrps/w-d-xo.html

Hey Les, Thanks for the thought. I took your suggestion and ordered and sheet of perspex 9mm thick. I've used this as the second sheet to act as a thermal barrier. I'll post something more on the coolroom when i install the refrigerant system. Thanks heaps.
