If I lived in Florida I definitely would've voted to approve that. I think it's silly that people who were convicted so long ago, haven't done anything illegal since, and maybe were young like you and just did something stupid are forever barred from voting. If you've served your time, are out of prison, and aren't still engaging in anything more illegal than downloading a song without paying occasionally, why shouldn't be allowed to vote? I'm really happy that passed.

As a Texan who voted for Beto I can say this outcome wasn’t shocking, we had an outstanding voter turn out and a democrat came within 3% of a republican but at the end of the day, Texans especially rural Texans turned a blind eye to an extraordinary man and chose a wet noodle puppet for senator, but Texas is as red as it gets and I’ll support Beto and future democrats that choose to stand up for the people of Texas

Even in Deep Red states, probably 1 in 3 people or more are Blue People. These people are an invisible minority on the map, where the state is painted solid red. If they are uniformly distributed across a rural red expanse, then they are always less than 50% of votes in their precinct, so in a first-past-the-post voting system they have ZERO representation at the local, state, or national level.
For example, it is possible to have a state with 1 in 3 being Democratic voters, yet ALL of the state's representatives in both chambers of the U.S. Congress are Republican, none are Democrats. This is why we need proportional representation; in such a state 33% of the state's Congressional delegation should be Democratic.

Texas voting machines were switching Beto to Cruz if you selected the straight ticket option. First page would show Beto, but as soon as you hit Next, it would switch and you didn't see it until the end (which I'm sure some people missed). @@WiGgYof09 -- You're right. If Kim Davis had said, "I object to gay marriage, I feel it's wrong," and then gone ahead and registered gay couples as the Supreme Court ordered, that would've been -- well, not fine exactly, but wouldn't have been a legal basis for firing. If she'd said, "I object to gay marriage, therefore I resign from this office," she could've pretended to be a martyr (which she pretended to be anyway), but she wouldn't have got nearly as much attention. Instead she deliberately chose the illegal action which would bring her the most attention. Glad the voters kicked her to the curb.

We had a smart, young, charismatic, well-funded candidate going up against a guy hated even by people in his own party who wasn't even born in the country and represented everything Texas should be fighting against. Beto campaigned vigorously, galvanized young voters, raised a ton of money and destroyed Cruz in the debates. If rural Texas was as well-informed an electorate as its suburbs, then Beto would've won by a landslide. Unfortunately, there are just too many poor, unhealthy, uneducated voters living in rural Texas and continuously being lied to and misinformed by the republicans who want to keep them poor, unhealthy and uneducated, since that's the only way they can ever get enough votes to win.
