The empowerment of women is more about stopping them being treated like cattle for birthing children and being owned by husbands, not allowed to go to school or work. It is seen as one of the main ways to properly develop many poor countries which still treat women like that since they are effectively wasting half of their population when already struggling economically. I'd hope they can be treated equally in the end also, but even our countries are struggling to properly do that so I'd be happy for them to at least solve that issue for now.
