@Lewis 970 They say it's hopeless to argue with a conspiracy theorists, fake newsers and trolling 14-years-olds on TH-cam - but in any case to set the record straight: 1. " the fire in Australia was spread by arsonists, not global warming" - this is a persistent and very toxic conspiracy theory that is factually false. As in every fire season we have here, there is some case of arson, but the total amount of land lost to fires to arson is about 1% this season - the rest is caused by natural reasons, in most cases lighting strikes into totally dried-out forests. The bushfires also cause their own weather including, fatally, more lightning strikes. 2. Global warming is a major indirect contributing factor the fires through a) a substantial increase in heat (8 of the 10 hottest years on record were in the last ten years, including 2013 when we here had two add two colour scales to the weather map) and b) an substantial decrease in rainfall (we have a really bad drought for year). Unfortunately, the climate is changing (i.e., increase in temperatures, decrease in rainfall)) here to a degree that forests of the scale we have are just not feasible anymore, at least in NSW and VIC, they will dry out and then burn away in fire season. What then immediately triggers the fires is largely irrelevant (some years back a big fire got accidentally started by the army doing a training exercise, clap clap a good job) - it just all super-dry and will burn based on lighting strikes, army exercise, stupid kids playing fire or any other reason, it is just waiting to happen BECAUSE it is so hot and dry. 3. The scale of fires this season is way beyond prior years and "centuries" - with NSW (my state) will half of its forest affected/burnt and Australia lost an estimated 1 billion animals, some species we lost entirely. It is not normal. Buzzfeed has just posted: "30 Websites That You Had NO IDEA Were Just Posting Clickbait!" (A slideshow format with only 1 website per page, and each page takes damn near 2 full minutes to load due to the ads...)
You know what I find interesting about Trump supporters? All they seem to care about is "we won, we won." If you tell them about something horrible Trump has already done, they'll just say "he won, get over it." "Winning" is all that matters to them. They think it's over now, roll credits. They have no idea what happens in the next four years and they aren't thinking of it anyway.
Evan Harris I think he's going to get shot. Not by an enraged liberal, but by someone who voted for him. Someone who felt lied to for years and put all their faith in him only to have him ignore them like everyone else. The wall is never happening and the coal industry isn't coming back. His base will come to hate him.
I am a Trump supporter. I look forward to having a respectful and mature debate with you regarding Trump's policies and stance. Just a little background information here: I am a college student in New England. I am 21 years old and Asian. I have a girlfriend who also supports Trump. I am an immigrant but I will be a citizen after I marry my love. The Trump supporters in my university(which is more scarce than gold in the Earth's crust) numbers few. And after the victory we were all celebrating. For I believe in traditional values and a free market. I am a conservative, also a classical liberal if you know what I mean. I wonder what your views are, so we could construct a discussion regarding Trump and his policies.
I see that you have certain concerns regarding an incoming Trump administration and its unpredictabilities. But I assure you that it will last for 4 or 8 years, then you get someone else. So live through and prosper, and better luck next time. But in reality Trump didn't win because of "racism" or "whitewash", Trump won because Hillary lost. What I mean by that is Hillary Clinton failed to perform on her bases(minorities and poor) in key battleground states. Thus the victory of Trump is not solely because of Trump, more because of the democrats failures to address the issues people actually want to hear. Furthermore, the Obama administration did not satisfy some Americans, especially in the rust belt. Their lives were changed radically, for the worse. Thus they invested their faith into someone else. Trump could be good, or bad. But they know four more years of democrats will only make their situation worse. So it was a gamble, almost. I just think calling these working class people, who are mostly white, demeaning names and titles is unbefitting and unbecoming of a political party. So were Trump's remarks of minorities, but at least they did have some factual bases. In short. America doesn't need a female president, nor an African American president. America needs a good president. And let us hope Trump is as good as he could be.
Basil So you are a 21 year old , in college, not a graduate which means....you've never voted before this election and as is true of most Trump supporters, you know nothing about how government works. Trump threatened to do all kind of things that no president can do. Your opinion means zip, zilch, nothing. He will either be impeached or some government agency will willingly and jump in and have him charged with all the crimes currently pending. So, don't hold your breath. He didn't win so quit saying that. The vote simply separated smart ppl from ignorant illiterates.
Flypurplecat Interesting argument. I have not voted before, nor did I vote this time. I am an immigrant with a student visa, I can't vote. I wonder why you say that most Trump supporters haven't voted before either. Compare the amount of whites that voted for Trump and for Romney in 2016, there is a 1% increase(I quote the NYT). The people that voted for Romney pretty much all voted for Trump, but that didn't win Trump the election. The minorities and women were the key to the race. They did not vote Hillary in a landslide, rather Hillary lost ground in all minority votes to trump. Which could point out that her campaign is mainly based on "I'm a woman" and "I'm protector of minorities", this bullshit doesn't work anymore. More whites with a college degree voted for Trump than Hillary, so I suppose the education system must be failing if all these "ignorant illiterate" people are going to college. Trump will be the president, my president, and your president. While pointing out that my opinions are worth nothing, so are yours. All your arguments are based on opinions and speculations. Trump won fair and square, rather than trying to deny the results, suck it up. I did not like the results of the two previous elections, but my life went on. And so will yours for the next four or eight years.

@Nautulis Yet another easily disproved lie. Since the Republican and Democrat parties have been a thing, there have been 4 elections in which the winner via the electoral college lost the popular vote. Please provide proof of these "many wins", because I can tell you now, it has only happened 4 other times... and none of them involved democrats winning the electoral college. @Lewis 970 yea the fires and floods in Australia and the virus in China don't agree with u

@Lewis 970 btw I live in Albania and I don't really care who u vote for President I'm just happy that u support NATO and protect Albania and Kosovo
@Lewis 970 They say it's hopeless to argue with a conspiracy theorists, fake newsers and trolling 14-years-olds on TH-cam - but in any case to set the record straight:

Literally every news source (yes, including the ones you use) is based on clickbait. Viewership is how revenue is generated, little one.
indeed the hypocrisy is strong here
it is as if John Oliver had no intention of ever having this video posted on the Internet
Right wing, religious right has hypocrisy everywhere. They don't seem to mind.
Buzzfeed News is actually reputable compared to regular Buzzfeed.

2021 , Biden allowed 13 soldiers to be murdered by terrorists , and surrendered 80 BILLION dollars worth of the greatest military equipment ever created to the terrorists . He also drone striked an Afghan ally and a car full of children . Are you seriously okay with that ?!?
@@MidwesternFilthMixes I fail to see how this is at all related to the parent comment. Stop trolling.
😂
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
This episode didn't just age like fine wine, it turned the entire Atlantic Ocean into pure alcohol.
Apart from the bit about 2020 being a year we would all look forward to.
“The year that we are looking forward to is 2020”
No, no you ain't
10:54
It's been only a third of 2020, and it's already considerably worse than 2016.
Huh?!?... 1945?!?
2020 is actually a better year for me, but my case is definitely an outlier. It might have something to do with the fact that I was going through horrific drug addiction and lost everything that year. Trump was elected president while I was in rehab. When I came out I thought I had drempt that he had been elected. I was sorely disappointed. (Im recovered now and doing great).
@@TheCatWrangler Great to read you're doing better, dude! Hopefully 2020 continues to show something better for you and everyone, like Trump not getting reelected.
@@gedrictudio thanks!! Yep I agree. Maybe it'll turn around, who knows. I have seen lots of people being the best of humanity during these dark times, so that gives me some hope for us. Maybe not all is lost quite yet.
The planned pandemic (released for a very specific reason (election year) has knocked the country, but if you just wait a little longer Trump will prove to you all what a good guy he is. Don't slag that comment yet - just wait a little longer.... you will all be proved wrong about him.
"2016 was a bad year"
**laughs in 2020**
Think you misspelled cries (╥﹏╥)
Here we are again.
Ah yes... the Supreme Court... if only you knew back then...
if only
Ok yeah. But including Jeffrey Tambor in this. Biiiiig oof. Didn't age well 😬
Captain Phoenix you dense tool, The idea is that they’ve used a repeated trick, A trick not even 35 years old used on sole black SCOTUS Clarence Thomas. Both of those tricks would’ve heavily benefited the Democrats politically to proceed had there been sufficient information or grounds to believe such had a strong possibility of existing in order to tar the reputation of Republicans! The political will was there, if such a scenario existed, and you ennoble politicians word, possibly the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen, whom back the girl that never pressed charges - that in the first place was probably a plant - and twice no less!
I personally want to see Ford put on trial and watch her fry! I’m sadistic because this is the second time they’ve pulled this crap! Their (Democrats) bluff needs to be called and this woman’s life needs to be ruined, you can’t expect to appear on national television and muddy the nomination process of a Supreme Court justice without reproach or punishment.
Captain Phoenix moron
@@nobilesnovushomo58 Arguing for the imprisonment and execution of political opponents?
That's not fascist thinking at all. Nor is trying to silence those loony leftists! They stand against Trump, and therefore, they are against the good of the people!
They block his will with their "votes." Who are they to do that? He's the PRESIDENT!!!
Its weird. trump supporters seem to get so mad when information challenges their reasons for voting for him. I find it completely hysterical.
sariah moody this information is complete bullshit...find real facts...not your "feelings" based headlines in your cnn newsfeed.
I just don't want to go to war with Russia, sorry honey.
Funny because Hillary supporters are the exact same way. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying that Dems and Reps are basically the same.
You are very correct. I've shown my co-workers his videos and quotes from his website and they still refuse to believe. "He was saying that for the election! He's not going to really do that." is all I hear.
cognitive dissonance
This did actually age well...
Yeah, I was thinking the same. All the points John mentioned were in the media focus at one point or another. It was like going through a checklist of everything that could (and did) go wrong.
Nah turned out he was fear mongering as Trump didn't do anything insane
All Might exactly this guy Oliver is a hateful asshole who hates democracy and unfairly hates not winning. Fear monger it jerk off. Fuck him and his shitty attitude.
@@r4ndomuser861 yeah it's not like he was impeached and the only reason the Republicans gave for not removing was he learned his lesson.
Right?
Just watched this and when he said "The year we are looking forward to now, is 2020" I started a mixture between crying and laughing...
27:14 is why I love john oliver. He could have edited it out but he decided "yeah, I'm not for everyone."
Edgy 😂
All thanks to people like you John.

Charles Crowe Exactly. Dumb shit like THIS elected trump.
This video has made me the proud owner of a Dewalt® Ladder. Not that I need one, it's just a nice thing to have :)
This is basically a 2024 rerun of this episode.
They should do a "Why is this still a thing?" segment on the electoral college.
YarrBr0 it's caused so many wins for democrats but now because you lose by it you think it's stupid and outdated and should be abolished
@Nautulis Yet another easily disproved lie. Since the Republican and Democrat parties have been a thing, there have been 4 elections in which the winner via the electoral college lost the popular vote. Every one of those was a Republican becoming president despite a Democrat winning the popular vote.
He already did
Please provide proof of these "many wins", because I can tell you now, it has only happened 4 other times... and none of them involved democrats winning the electoral college. Quite the opposite in fact, republicans won 3 of the 4 with the electoral college but lost the popular vote. Did you get your information from a facebook post?
Stereo Balilla
The rest of the nation? It makes the votes of a few states matter more than any other. It's also all or nothing which doesn't make sense. You could get 49% of the votes in a state but still lose, and because you lost, you get no electoral votes from the state. So a small percentage of people voted more in favor of one than the other and therefore they get to decide for the entire state? What was that about votes being valid?
Somehow, every single year since then has been progressively worse.
CatThatLostHisHat just bc Iroh is your pic. +10
And the President is still popular.
@@elhombredeoro955 according to whom?

One collective mistake of 2016 and it is fucking entire world in 2020. Pretty sure if Americans had a different president this whole pandemic would not have got out of China. BTW I am from India. If you guys think I am wrong please enlighten me.
2016: _Nani!_
@@moving.quotes nah, actually the situation would've been somewhat same. China had known abt the outbreak a long time ago, but willingly chose to ignore the reality fearing the economic impact and global criticism it would receive for the malpractices resulting in the outbreak in the first hand. First cases in US occurred back in December 2019. China even silenced whistleblowers and forced the WHO into stating things like human to human contact wasn't gonna transmit the virus all whilst Indonesia and Taiwan were stating examples of the contrary. Things would've been better but the outbreak would've resulted in pandemic considering China's uncooperative stance when it comes disclosing facts.
As long as John Oliver exists I'll be ok for the next four years.
