Ive repaired tons of model 1's. I can tell this one was an exception. It was probably hardly ever played, and kept in a controlled environment its entire life. Its not the norm, but every once in a while one like that shows up. Sun shines on a dogs a$$ every once in a while.
I loved classic game room. It really sucks that it ended the way it did. That show was a staple of my High School years. Mark makes music and weird animations now.
The music is fine and all. Heck it's the kind of retro music I expect to hear in his reviews. If he could bounce back and do that and then plug the album at the end of the reviews, that could work.

Me when my Dad fixed the coaxial cable (yes, I really used that) multiple times for my Sega Genesis as a kid. Now I'm the one fixing anything computer related and he has no idea what he's looking at.
If you get another one, you should definitely get a disc-based system. They might be finally showing better care with the older solid state systems, but disc-based systems are where the real challenge lies with refurbing a console since the complexity raises significantly. Moving parts have a lot more common points of failure, and those parts that work are only getting older and harder to find.
Because TH-camrs are liars. DK Oldies sends out great consoles and these TH-cam scammers mess up the perfect systems they send. Maybe this fool is starting to tell the truth though, ALL THEIR CONSOLES ARE PERFECT AND REFURBISHED.

That Classic Game Room throwback hits so hard, I can't believe it's been almost 8 years since they stopped with their daily reviews. I remember Rich talking about CGR leaving TH-cam and then talking about them coming back to TH-cam and how it showed you can't really succeed on your own without it. That was a sad time, and was the start of the end for them. TH-cam has always had bad copyright systems. I'm so glad that people still remember Classic Game Room and how great it was, thanks for the callback Rich!

My first ever console was a Megadrive. This is bringing back memories like how it felt to plugin the controllers and that loose power connector that was also broken on mine 😅
To be fair: These older consoles are way easier to clean/refurbish than "newer" systems like a PS3 or the original XBox, because of fewer components to keep track of. I always had the impression that their refurbishing team may skip a few consoles every now and then, especially when they require more time to refurbish. I've seen multiple videos of people who had decently cleaned consoles like a Genesis or a SNES, but the people who rightfully complain about DKOldies mostly had those "newer" consoles.
The Neo-Geo AES was just like the model 1 Sega Genesis in that it also has a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack + volume slider, and also only outputted a mono audio signal from it's composite A/V output. I modded mine to have lineout on the back (along with an svideo output). The Genesis model 2 and Neo-Geo CD would add stereo out on the back.
That is a Sega Genesis 1.5 because the original Sega Genesis model 1 had High Definition Graphics listed on the top of the console and had an extra port on the back of the console. There was a video someone did on TH-cam explaining the models and revisions of the Sega Genesis really interesting to watch and see all the revisions that Sega did with the Genesis.
@@LITTLE1994 Be aware there are multiple differences between model 1 revisions, for example, my PAL VA6 has TMSS added and the ext/serial port removed. Also, I’ve had 2 model 1s where the 3.5mm audio output stopped working, had to replace the CXA1034 chip to get it working again.

Nobody deserves consistent ranting online, just ACTUALLY go there and complain. Best to just let locals sort it/figure it out for themselves instead of blowing things up online because there are plenty who have likely never DONE business with them before complaining just to agree or add unnecessary perspective without the proper experience with them.

Rich, I think you missed something. At about 14:36, we get a good look at the board. CLEARLY some work has been done on that board, as we can see those blue wires soldered near a couple of chips, (and one going to the corner of the cartridge slot.) Either that board needed repair at some point, or Sega had some sloppy engineers back in the day! (I've personally not opened a Genesis to compare wiring--clearly those are routed through to the other side of the board at certain points, but typically I only see that kind of wiring job used when you have to reroute the circuit to bypass damage in the board.)

I rather believe somebody had a boxed and sealed Genesis that was actually never used and sold that to DKoldies. That literally looked like it's new.
