Yep, because they don't think they need to. They're raking in the cash with minimal effort, and that has worked for them up to this point. Not refurbishing anything means they have much more time to make video shorts of themselves playing stupid games, like seeing if Joey can spot all the obviously fake cartridges in however many seconds.
I watched a video where a guy went into what it would take to truly refurbish each console..10 years experience rebuilding consoles ... can't remember his name... but he showed special workstations for safely removing processors and handling bords for specific consoles it's guided arms and whatnot for tools ... their video where they use some simple screwdrivers to replace a laser reader and using vacuum attachments might be the extent of their ability
They dont' have the knowledge or talent to do actual refurbish jobs. Its super hard to actually have someone that can reball any board. Replace swollen capacitors. Most repair shops wont ever touch refurbish jobs that require that much work, and if they actually happen to take it. theres a good change they have to ship out the console to a specialist because the tech to reball is quite expensive and hard to do.

What disgusts me the most is some people saying that “TH-camrs should stop talking about DKoldies.” Why should people stop reporting these unscrupulous activities? You are complicit in these scams if you shame people for exposing them.

I almost bought a PS3 Slim from DKO as I wanted a refurbished model and was willing to shell out a little extra cash so that it was cleaned and repaired if needed. Thanks for your videos...saved me from tossing money way! Ended up buying my PS3 Slim off eBay (refurbished) and couldn't be happier with what I received! It was super clean and very well packaged as if it was a new console!
Consider yourself lucky. I had the same desire and I actually bought one. It works, but it’s extremely dirty and has a loose hdmi port. I would fix it myself but I don’t know how, and they won’t send me a different one since mine technically works

In the Sonic Boom TV Show, there was one scene where Amy ordered a burger that was the wrong order, Dave then took the tray with the burger on it, spun around and placed the burger back in front of Amy.
That scene is basically what DKOldies did to Jacob R.

It's HILARIOUS they put the warranty sticker on the BATTERY DOOR so you cannot even replace the battery for the clock without voiding the "warrenty"
DKOldies are starting to show videos of their customers unboxing their products, and it coming in mint condition. It couldn't be more obvious it's a marketing gimmick to scratch off some backlash. But that's not what bothers me, what bothers me is that's their ONLY way of coping about it and yet they can avoid all of this if they just do what they say
Literally all they have to do is apologize and recognize that these consoles aren’t being properly refurbished. Then fix the problem and let independent reviewers/consumers see the proof.

I remember my friend was picking out retro consoles from those flea/community markets and there was guys where they would restore their new stocks of consoles in front of people and they would also turn the console on and run a game on this wild tv covered in adapters and ports so consumers can validate that the product works fine and is what they wanted, i was astounded at how honest they were and the dude just wanted to sell older games to young people more then anything, nowdays i rarely see retro consoles be sold in flea markets and it really sucks..
Listening to Joey wrapping consoles and games in bubble wrap and sliding them into boxes is like listening to people smacking their lips and chewing with their mouths open.
I love when they wrap the console super thick on the top and bottom and put it in a box where the sides of the console are flush with the sides of the box and only a tiny layer of wrap protects the console on the sides. It does nothing to actually protect the sides of the console. Then they wrap a jewel case of Madden 04 in four layers of wrap.

If people want to pay your prices for retro games that’s on them. I have personally bought some games from your company in the past in hopes I would get featured in your little videos but that didn’t happen. Heck I was even thinking about potentially getting a console but the fact you’re being rude to those who have had a bad experience and calling it “hate” and being “jealous” of your success and trying to sweep it all under the rug it has deterred me from buying one. I just want to point out that they put the warranty sticker on that Wii over the CMOS battery door, the one part on the Wii even Nintendo allowed the user to easily replace with a single Phillips screw.
I was looking to see if someone had commented that. It's almost like putting a sticker over the battery cover on an Xbox 360 controller. With the e-mails they send when someone says their console doesn't work I wouldn't be surprised if a response to "Hey my Wii makes me set the time every time I turn it on" was "oh just take the warranty sticker off and put a new battery in, but you will void your warranty doing that"
@@jman3350 I remember when GameStop sold retro consoles, I saw Sega Genesis units sold with stickers over the expansion bay where you connect the Sega CD, it's so dumb when people who don't know what they're doing place those stickers.
Here's more hilarity. I think that Do not Remove sticker is on the CMOS battery compartment. So if they did just remove it or not replace it - that means doing a basic task like replacing the CMOS (basic in relation to the Wii) battery will "void your warranty"

I usually wouldn't watch so many videos about one topic in a row, but I've watched every one of your videos on dkoldies, fascinates me. Does America not have any sort of 'trading standards' like here in the UK. If we have trouble with a retailer, we can get them involved, and if loads of people complain to them, they can take action against that retailer through the courts. That's obviously not the Wii they showed in their 'refurbishment' video, this one must have somehow got missed, I'm sure ;)
There is legal recourse. Problem is that it would cost more to fight it than it would make sense. Class action is what’s needed here
@@trebm3 Yup, I believe that trading standards here have powers of their own, I know a retailer in the past who I reported to them, made sure they corrected the issue I was having with them very quickly after.
There are some good standards here, warranty stickers are now useless which stands out as a big thing. So, if they’re denying people their warranties because the sticker is missing I’m pretty sure that is now illegal

I just did a whole video on how their warranty is not even legal. They say 1 year warranty on the page but if you go to their terms and conditions page... it says consoles are sold as is with no warranty. LOL

To be honest at first i thought you were really going in on this guy, like just smashing his reputation. After learning about the stickers and the “refurbished “ claim, I completely agree with why you’re making these videos. It’s not even that hard to clean the console up and hire people to actually clean the systems, sucks that you have to call him out like this but it needs to be said.
Legit those stickers even from people like Nintendo or sony are complete bull. You are allowed to repair your things you own there is legal precedent to say so.
All they had to do was a simple "I'm sorry, we'll do better". But they couldn't even do that.

In the Slurm Planet, the owner shows the "factory" on making the drink, but Fry, Leela and Bender find out that behind the scenes it is just clearly rushed and made with a gross process, this is basically just DKOldies for the most part

Dk oldies is the type of company that calls something refurbished after it’s been wiped down with a damp cloth

If the lens in the DVD drive gets dirty (or the laser diode goes bad or the disc gets scratched/dirty) it will take longer to read.
Willing to guess who probably didn't even use compressed air to clean out the DVD drive?

they definitely did not replace the battery, though the system IS factory reset. At this point, it was probably the previous owner's doing. And DKOldies never actually turned it on or tested it.

Today at my shop I opened up an NES system with a DKOldies warranty label that wouldn't spring down or play cartridge games. I opened it up and it was dusty inside and missing some screws. I replaced the pins and cleaned it up a little and got it working again. It also had some sticky residue on the sides of the console. Yeah...

Worth noting, they put the DKOldies sticker where you're supposed to be able to access the CMOS battery which keeps the internal clock operating when the system is powered off. So you have to "void the warranty" just to replace that when Nintendo never had any such sticker there. In fact, I don't Nintendo has ever used a sticker on any of their systems to tell if someone opened up a system or not except the Switch.

This is tricky as the 1975 Magnuson Moss Warranty Act only disallows MANUFACTURERS from putting void warranty stickers on new products, not 2nd-hand products (refurbished or in DK Oldies case... not refurbished) from a 3rd party-- like any other repair shops.
Time to sue them as a group and make them go bankrupt.

The story with this "company" is wild. I'm just thinking about the money they are making that could be going to a real company of dedicated workers actually refurbishing classic game systems for customers to have that sweet feeling inside when you go back and play the great games from your childhood. The same way I do when I boot up my PS2 and play Romance of the Three Kingdoms X 😌😌.

Another thing I just noticed and looks suspicious is the complete 5 stars for everything on their consoles. They either pay someone to write 5 stars or they remove anyone giving less than 5 stars

I rebuild and resell lawnmowers. This is like if I was selling hundreds of used lawnmowers that state "professionally serviced" and people start flaming me saying that they got a lawnmower from me with an old dull rusty blade; or it leaks gas.
If they faced lawsuits over the refurbishment cost they'd go bankrupt fast
