Thanks for watching. Turns you don't need to buy a $400 leaf blower from Stihl to have it last 8 years.

I left the gas in my lawn mower over the winter. It's a Toro with a 190cc Briggs & Stratton flat head motor I meant to do "the right thing" by emptying the tank and running the carb dry. But, I kept putting it off and then just figured I'd do what I had to do to get it running if it wouldn't start for me in the spring. We've had a few days of above normal temps (for my area) and decided I'd better get at the mower since the grass is growing fast. I bought some fresh gas, then did the routine start up steps, checked to see how much gas I had left in it (just over half a tank) and checked the oil. I had a look at the gas that was in it, and it was a bit dark. I decided to just try starting it and it fired right up!. It may have been just lucky, but I have to admit that I won't let it sit over the winter again.

I think you got lucky, but the brigs flatheads fuel jet, is less likely to clog, in comparison to the newer OHV engines.

here is a fyi for ya.... on those type of gas caps in the instructions it says that the gas cap is "non-serviceable" as daddy used to say i beg to differ. on the gas cap that little yellow thing in the middle is an air filter, if your gas cap pulls a suction and stops the engine from running in till you release the vacuum them this hack is for you. remove that little filter in the middle of gas cap.. you will notice that the end of the filter facing you is hard like you heated up nylon rope. well take a small very sharp razor blade and "ONLY CUT OFF THE VERY SMALL END THAT IS FACING YOU" at max bout 2-3 thousands of and inch put it back in and you should be good to go... and yes this works because i did it to my given to me weed wacker besides i was in a bind and need to get the job done!!

I live in central Florida where we have leaves and clippings year round. I use my Wawa brand ethanol free 89 octane (boat gas) mixed with Echo Red Armor at 45:1. I haven't had a two stroke related fuel issue as of yet (35+ years). I have Echo and Stihl two stroke blowers, edgers, shrub trimmers, and weed eaters and they hold up amazingly well. Once the equipment hits about 5 years old, I replace diaphragms, fuel lines, fuel filters, spark plugs, air filter, and purge bulbs, needed or not, to be on the safe side. I do enjoy your videos, it's interesting to see how neglected some of the equipment you work on had become. The "owner stories" are also priceless! Please keep sharing. Great work, great channel, thumbs up!

Over the Winter, I leave fuel in my 2-cycle engine. Yes, that's engine, as in one. I have an Echo attachment system, which means that I only have to keep one engine running. I used to use Trufuel. I bought a 12-can case, which lasted about 2 years, and kept the quart cans it came in. Now, I use my trimmer, edger, blower, etc, much more than I used to, so I mix my own premix using ethanol-free gas and Echo oil, and put it in the Trufuel cans. The quart cans keep the fuel fresh longer than gallon cans would. In the Spring, it runs, but not quite as well as it should. When I use up the partial can I was using in the Fall, and fuel up with a full quart can, it runs as it should. I should probably start running the tank empty at the end of the year, and trying to not leave a partial can of fuel at the end of the year.

I'll have to admit, i usually leave some fuel in the tank. Most times, I forget to drain them before the end of the season. Thankfully though, i use Non Ethanol fuel, and all of my 2 cycle equipment uses Opti-2 2 stroke oil in the gas which claims to have stabilizer in it, and i've never had a problem with any fuel. I keep non ethanol fuel in my riding mower and husqvarna walk behind mower year round too. Again, no issues with the non ethanol fuel.
Random Story, about 2 years ago, before gas went through the roof on pricing, i'd filled up all 3 of my 5 gallon cans. Just this past week, i broke out the last can of non ethanol gas, and it is as good as the day i bought it. I would recommend VERY highly for everyone who maintains their own equipment to consider paying just a bit more for the Ethanol free gas, because it makes a huge difference in the long run!
Another story, I'm currently seeing the error of my ways with my MS170 chainsaw. It had the Ethanol fuel still in it, from before i started doing the Ethanol free fuel. Sadly, the carb was dead, and had to replace the carb. Unfortunately for me, the new carb still didn't fix the issue. I might have a seal leaking somewhere because it's doing the same thing with the new carb that it did with the old one.
Love the videos IHG! God Bless!

I do leave fuel in my equipment during the mowing season and also throughout the winter season. Only reason is because I use can fuel, and I start my equipment up through out the winter season. I absolutely agree with you on the cheaper brands. I was given a Chinese EB650 Backpack blower for a birthday gift about 2yrs ago and the thing still runs fantastic. I do however maintain all my equipment thanks to you and your channels!!! Awesome fix as usual.

I was just working on a neighbors Homelite blower which appears identical to this Ryobi. Similar issues as yours. Ethanol fuel was left in the tank over winter. Following your excellent guidance I cleaned the carb, replaced the needle valve and diaphragms. It is now running and good for a new season. I recommended using the premixed fuel that is available almost everywhere now. Not a big expense since the owner uses it

Seems like I had to reset the carb on the trash guys $20 Stihl 85 a couple of times right after I got it but haven't touched it in years. The Echo needs a dab opened on the lo side but seeing it's so much trouble to get to the adjuster it'll do just fine. Just a slight hesitation on winding up but it'll still roll wet leaves which is all I can ask of it. Fine fix on the Ryobi and as you know I leave Tru-fuel in both blowers all the time and non-ethanol in the rest. BLESSINGS!

Hey bro, what's up? This blower didn't have to get major surgery for it to run properly again. Even though the owner didn't take excellent care of the blower, they however taken care of it to a certain point and that's good enough for me.

  • @scottfirman

I got a Toro last year that would start and stop running, even after replacing the carburetor ,fuel lines and cleaned the tank. It didn't change anything. I learned that doing a drop test while holding the pull start can tell you if it has compression enough. If the unit falls quickly, with no resistance, the rings or cylinder are bad. On the one I had, it fell ,but not really fast. A unit with good compression shouldn't drop. This works on chain saws as well. Needless to say, the Toro blower went to the scrap bin, after stripping all the new parts from it.

    • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
      @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE  ปีที่แล้ว

Heads up on the aftermarket HDC kits. The metering diaphragm that intersects with the lever is too high at the nub. The nub should be flush with the plate, and its about an 1/16 inch high. There are some pics around if you want to double check me. I realize this isnt an HDC carb, but thought you should know if you come across one.

Personally I leave the fuel in most of my equipment all year round, since I live in a hot climate it is always mowing season. I make sure to run all of my equipment periodically, but if I'm not going to use it for a while I drain the fuel and run it dry. I agree with you on certain cheaper equipment, I was given a chinese ebv260 leaf blower and it runs and blows better than a name brand blower, it starts second pull every time and has never let me down.

I leave fuel in my equipment all year round. But I use 100% gas, with Stabilizer (Amsoil), and either Echo Red Armor or Amsoil Saber oil. Both oils claim to have stabilizers in them, so I don't worry about leaving it in the equipment. I run my equipment periodically throughout the winter as well. The fuel lines on my church's Shindawia trimmer, which was bought nearly 5 years ago (if I am not mistaken), still feel like new (inside and outside the tank). But I do recommend to people whose equipment I work on to drain it out if they aren't going to run their equipment periodically.
