I’m impressed lol. I once had a Troy bilt 4 cycle trimmer that I got from someone last year. It was 4 years old and got it for $20. I put gas in it and it started right up but after that it started having some problems. The recoil broke and had to buy a jumpstart electric starter for a drill in order to start it. It was a pain lol. To be honest with you it does not take that much oil as you think, it was a 30cc motor and probably took maybe 2 oz of oil? Not much at all lol. I threw it away because it wasn’t worth fixing, but overall, the engine design was built better than the Ryobi 4 cycle with the stupid timing belt on it which is just a nightmare. I’m happy that my Troy bilt didn’t have that.

This is why when I see something on the curb and I want to take it I do. Because sometimes they are just upgrading and If you find the repairs to be to hard or costly you can always put it on the curb again. We were debating to upgrade from our 1995 ryobi 31cc to electric but we didn’t because of mainly run time. We use it for about 1-2 hours every couple weeks and at our grandpas house so we are keeping gas. Also cost.

Sell it. 4 cycles are nosy and heavy. I’ve switched over to battery only cause it was a gift to me. The manufacturer says I was supposed to get about 23 mins out of a single charge, but I soon found out that was not true, all I get from a fully charged battery is about 16 mins which isn’t long enough to weed eat my property, therefor I just came back from the dealer and bought a bigger battery which last about 50 to 60 mins per charge. Now if all I get is about 35 to 40 mins that’s ok by me. That’ll do my whole yard. P.S. still can’t beat a gas job.

I have an EGO trimmer and blower I've been using for the past 3 years now and the only thing that has been replaced is the charger which they replaced under warranty. Battery still holding strong with minimal loss of run time. Being able to grab and go without worrying about gas is nice, and not having the mess of spilled or leaking gas. I don't think I'd go back to a 2 stroke trimmer unless I had a much larger area to maintain.

During this time when gas prices were up I was considering a battery powered Echo motor unit for my Pro Attachment System of attachments but there were a couple of things that I ultimately decided against and that's the expense of buying at least two new batteries, the motor head itself and a charger. If I used them often enough and since I do semi commercial mowing I would still have to invest in a gas inverter generator to charge them. The generator would have to be a Honda EU2200i or a similar unit from Yamaha because they are some of the most robust generators out there. They also have an initial price of around $2000 Canadian.

Hey bro what's up? I'm very surprised that you did a repair and cleaning in a single video working on this trimmer. Surprisingly you didn't have to do anything much on this trimmer except for an oil change and a good cleaning. I'm not changing over to battery powered lawn equipment because they are expensive, replacement batteries are expensive, they cannot be serviced and lastly the battery can't hold a charge long enough for you to get at least a quarter of the work done before you have to recharge them which take some time to charge also whereas with gas powered equipment you can go as long as you want and don't have to worry about recharging the batteries. Just add your oil and gas mixture, start up your equipment and you're good to go.

I bought a brand new 4 cycle weed wacker a few years ago. It would always leak out all the oil on my shirt. And it only held 2oz of oil so it didn't need to lose much to be running without lubrication. Now I have a 2-cycle and life is a lot easier with that. My original plan was to do all 4-cycle engines so I didn't have to keep clean gas and mix gas around. But keeping a 1gal can of 45ish:1 around is a lot easier than dealing with 50cc 4-cycle engines!

I have been let down by carburettor faults but given that the carbs are made by the usual suspects I can't blame Honda. The exceptions are the hedge trimmer which has a Chinese two-stroke and the Stihl chainsaw. Both are not easy starters.

I'm in the lawn care business. I've been waiting for battery technology and cost to get to a point where it's feasible, and I think they finally have. So I've started making the changeover to electric, with the goal of having an all-electric fleet by the beginning of next season. So far I have a backpack blower and a chainsaw, both Ryobi, and both are awesome. I still need a string trimmer, a hedge trimmer, and of course a mower. I'm going to stick with Ryobi for future purchases, so batteries and chargers will be interchangeable, and because I've always loved Ryobi equipment.
Pros: No more buying, hauling, and mixing fuel. No more spills or smell. Less weight to haul around in the bed of the truck. Far less noise. FAR less repairs and maintenance (if electric equipment doesn't start, your troubleshooting checklist is one item long). The knowledge that I'm no longer polluting the air with gas-powered equipment (running a gas mower for an hour generates as much pollution as driving a car 350 miles, because of the pollution controls that cars have). The ability to advertise all-electric equipment to potential clients.
Con: There's really only one: Up-front cost. When you're operating your equipment all day, you need to start the day with multiple charged batteries, because they take more than an hour to charge. Batteries are expensive: over $200 for the 6-amp-hour battery; the mower and leaf blower each use two. And you really should use only Ryobi brand batteries; there are knock-off brands on the market for far less, but they're not the amperage they advertise and they're not as reliable. This winter, I plan on building a truck bed topper with solar panels on top and an inverter and chargers inside, which will help a bit, but even on a cloudless day I'll be burning through battery power faster than I can top it up on the road. And of course batteries don't have an infinite lifespan, so I'll need to replace them every couple years. I really don't know yet whether I'll save any money by going electric, but the other advantages make it worthwhile. Plus, battery technology continues to improve, so better batteries are probably coming in a couple years.
I hope this helps some people decide. I love your videos, but hopefully by next year I won't need to watch them! 🙂

I have nothing against battery/corded tools, it really depends on the tool itself. I have a corded chipper/shredder, pressure washer, and a couple hedge trimmers. these items I only use 4 - 6 times a year and they work perfectly for my homeowner uses. the up-front cost, customer service and battery/charger obsolescence keeps me from going with an electric mower and trimmer. when it comes to the point of switching to electric, I'm going to go with xeriscaping and a veggie garden, no more grass. it's hard to beat simplicity and low maintenance, in my opinion.

As for batteries, I have been bitten many times by batteries no longer being available for the tools I have bought. That's a big F U from the manufacturer. Yes DeWalt/Black and Dekker I am looking at you. And Bosch and Makita.
Til batteries become common and generic I am not interested.
When I was a kid my parents had a battery electric lawnmower, it had a half horsepower motor and was powered by a car style 12V lead acid battery. Any deep cycle battery of about the right size would work. We had it for about twenty years til the motor burnt out. It was perfect for our size of suburban lawn and was put on a trickle charger til the next weekend.

A batterypack could cost alot and also it wears out after a while. A gas is I think more powerful and the parts is or the faulure could be somewhat more easier to fix. An electric is maybe more easier to fix but I think it is more expensive like the engine itself or the batterypack.

I was going to work on a old generator that’s been sitting outside for many many many years to see if it would even work it had compression but I just ended up not working on it because there was a metal man getting some metal and the middleman took the generator. I like gas machines better than battery because I feel like gas machines have more power than battery does. But then again I could be wrong. I have a mixture of gas products and battery products.

I have a Kobalt (Lowe's house brand) 80V mower. It stopped working. Something internal, electrical. Can't get it fixed. Lowe's wont touch it because it's out of warranty. Small engine shops won't touch it because it's not a "small engine." So I replaced it with a Honda mower this year.
In general, the lack of standardization really ticks me off. You're tied into a brand with the batteries. Who wants a Ryobi charger, and a Makita charger, and a Milwaukee charger, and a DeWalt charger? No, you buy one, and then you're in that brand's "ecosystem."
I've got a Gravely zero turn, a Honda mower and power washer, an Echo trimmer, and a Schröder backpack blower. My "ecosystem?" Dino syrup.

it would cost them money to cast new gas caps that don't say 50:1, so they didn't bother with it, Also, I wouldn't hurt to run mixed fuel in there either, it's just more lubrication.

If water gets into the engine, empty the oil out put new oil in it. Take the spark plug out and pull the rope and pull the rope and it will push out any water that got in the cylinder. After wards put the spark plug back if it is good. Then fill with gas and start it up.
