- Racing our 1998 Ford Mustang Cobra TA / GT1 at the Le Mans 24H 2021 in Endurance Racing Legends by Peter Auto. After engine damage in the 2nd Qualifying the mechanics from Burgol Racing Technologies did a great job, installed and adapted the spare engine to make the Mustang ready for the Saturday Race. Unfortunately hit and pushed in the gravel in the first lap by a Porsche in the Indianapolis left turn. After a pit stop (in front of the Jim Glickenhaus box) and replacement of the damaged rear wheel the Mustang ran perfect and the Laptime came down to 4:16 min. What a pleasure to be back at Le Mans after this long break and running down the Mulsanne Straight with a Topspeed of 295 km/h.

It's got to be devastating to be in the Prototype and have the Mustang to blow past you like you're nothing
well the power was there in the 1998 just the tires were not that good. old racercars with modern rubber and braking pads do magic.

@@tomast9034 All that tells me is that the drivers in the other cars weren't trying. That LMP2 car can do a 3:45, compare that to the 4:16 that this car did.
@@andrewcarter9649 can be they preserving the car or fuel...the car had last for 24h. not everybody can be schumacher. but half a minute is much even for me🙂
Ford always has the best sounding v8. I remember my dad took me and my brother to a local short track. There was a Ford in last place but it sounded like it had an extra 200 hp

Loved driving this one in Project CARS. If only the computers of that public gaming room (called "Swordfish"; it's located here in Banja Luka, a city/town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, I highly recommend it to gamers) I sometimes go to had sim racing rigs included, it'd have been even more challenging (considering I had to control this beast with keys lol). Too bad they don't have this game installed anymore. I played it almost religiously (and was probably the only one who played it) there.
That was absolutely beautiful.
I always loved these Mustang's. One of the best looking sedan race cars, IMO.
I always thought that they looked like Nascar cars or Late Model Stock Cars

These mustangs? You mean the sn95? Cuz mustangs have always been 2 doors muscle/pony cars. They have never been identified as a sedan.
I was very impressed with how it only has a 4 speed Jericho.
1st for slow corners, 2nd for faster corners, 3rd for intermediate straights and 4th for sajonara suckers :D

trans - am in the 90's was awesome....
I have a beaten-up version of this car in all blue as a hotwheels. The hotwheels itself just says it's a "ford mustang" but looks like a silhouette-racer.. and now I know where it originates from.

Ya except much faster. TA cars would destroy a Nascar stocker on any road course. Even a TA car this old.

Love Trans Am GT1. I race Ray Evernham's GT1 Corvette. Your Jericho sounds a bit rough...maybe a GForce 4 speed? (this is what I run and it is very smooth) Lastly...Aston Martin and Ferrari who???

These were the original V8 tube chassis 850hp purpose built race cars!! From late 60s thru today
the speedometer shows 280 kph as maximum but the car can do more.

Are you allowed to change that to a 5 or 6 speed trans? Is the 4 speed stretched at such a long high speed circuit?
This car has a Jericho 4sp I believe but
They were raced with Hewland 5 and 6 sp

Hello Bruce, this is the ex. LG Motorsports #28 car. Lou Gigliotti built 2 cars and this was his personal car with chassis #1. In 1998 Lou won Lime Rock in the rain with it. After the season he sold it to collector / racer Lee Milazzo who raced it for about 18 years - mostly at Road America (livery changed during his ownership to Valvoline - like Brian Simo drove in period). It recently found a new home in our collection in Switzerland and we will continue to race it in Europe.

Straight cut gears
Dog box with straight cut gears are not quiet.
Its a Dog box. The microphone was mounted on the transmission tunnel - this is the reason for the noise. We will mount the microphone at another place in the car for the next races.
This car looks a bit like a 90s Honda Accord on steroids
this is what happens when you take a late model stock car, shove a super speedway engine into it, and take off the restrictor plates

Back then they ran TA and IMSA GTO classes in pro racing. In SCCA amatuer racing they are catagorized as GT1
