Judd 4c is the ultimate package with 488 close behind - but that X1/9 driver just blew everyone away for being so fast despite among the least hearsepowers
More than just low weight, it is another example of how good the chassis/suspension design into the x1/9, majority never appreciate this, FIAT did all they could to prevent any development of the x1/9. Power is of no value when power cannot be controlled and put to the road under control.
@HillClimbMonsters Yes, but no ;) I looked it up because I was curious which AWD system could made to fit the tiny chassis, but instead of a typical system with prop shafts connecting the drive input to both front and rear diff, there's two chains doing this. Years ago Palatov Motorsports pioneered this in their DP1. You could use a system like that with any engine, doesn't have to be a bike one.
Beautiful amazing engineering work from all the mechanics and to the drivers to handle the power, but the weird thing is I have barely or never seen, thus far, a supercharged engine on the hillclimb?
@@HillClimbMonsters It would be great to have a few car and engine tours me thinx, especially these amazing 5cyl monsters of late! (gotta love that sound) 🤔🙏😇
@@hartthur Sounds like a combination of things to me, but mainly a highly modified engine designed for higher rpm and throtle response, along with a very fancy bespoke exhaust/turbo system, which sounds to me like titanium (Ti tends to have a "ring" to it). It's incredible how the X1/9 is still a very competitive car after all these years. Obviously well modified but it's a perfectly designed car for this kind of races, always glued to the road. My favourite still remains the Alfa Romeo from Granenzi, the sound of that car is simply amazing and always gives goosebumps. What leaves me disappointed is tgat with it's power to weight ratio the lightness and the relatively small wheel base i think it could go much faster than that, am I missing something?
Hey, since i've been to this event this summer and i can remember most of the cars that were competing and the times they were setting, why are there so many drivers that in this event were faster than most of the ones shown in this video that aren't actually shown here? Because as far as i can remember there were about 25-30 cars that were quicker than that 4:38 set by the 15th fatsest in this video, so this top 15 isn't actually accurate. Maybe you weren't able to find enough details about the cars and you decided not to highlight them? No hate, it's ust a curiosity of mine, other than that great video nonetheless, as always
Hey Luca, we´ll gladly explain it, no problem ;) You are absolutely correct with these 15 cars not being the exact 15 Fastest on the event. Two distinct reasons here to explain. First one is the most obvious and the one all usual followers already know, which is the fact we don´t feature Sport Protos and Formulas, those are not the "HillClimb Monsters". That already accounts for a lot of the 25-30 cars you mentioned. But still, even among the Road-Going based units, these were not the exact 15 Fastest either and that´s because we avoided repetition among the cars we decided to feature. This is something we only do normally with Italian events because there is a huge amount of drivers with the same models. So to avoid a very repetitive Top 15 where there would be 4 Ferrari 488 Challenge, 4 Porsche GT4 and 5 TCR units, we decided to explore the variety among the Fastest cars on the event. In our opinion that makes for a much more pleasurable vieweing experience while also showing some very unique builds ;)
Yeah that makes total sense, nobody wants to see a video with the same cars over and over, and that probelm would be even bigger when making a video about italian hillclimb. Thanks for the answer
Can someone explain to me why the Evo platform is so well-suited to hillclimb? Not just the leader of this event, but across the majority of these events. Yes, they're relatively small, offer great visibility for carving apexes, can be tuned for huge power, and have AWD to put it down. But we're also talking about a front-engined, 4-door passenger sedan that inherently lacks the aero efficiency of a mid-engined supercar. It's not the low cost of entry, because these beasts have been modded to the moon. I'm sure many of you can educate me on what the secret sauce is. Thanks!
Tremendous mechanical traction, a base that is infinitely tuneable, a huge tuning market behind it with proven results both on speed and reliability and a body long enough to make Aero improvements really work ;)
You really have to drive one, not a stock one but a slightly tuned one to like +-400hp, its crazy how fast rhey are with a low hp number, you will love evos ;)
I'm always impress by those Audi Lms 😳 ! Not so powerfull, not that lightweight, no 4x4, but the chronos are impressive compared to others 5 or 600hp+ supercars !
anyone notice how the hyndai i30N TCR is changing wheels colors, between the front and rear wheels, from orange to black, is there an explanation for this?
That Fiat X1/9 doesn't just sound excellent, the fact its putting up only 2 seconds difference out of 4+ minutes, 250+ seconds total for either, with a bit more than 1/2 the power to weight, half as many driven wheels? Incredible!
Precisely what lurks under one of the most under appreciated and despised designed in the moto enthused world.. The chassis/suspension is that excellent.. which is about five decades old now. Keep in mind Fiat did all possible to stop any development of the x1/9, which was a Bertone idea and production since the beginning.
@@rupunzel6299 Nice. I only know them by proxy of being a old AW11 enthusiast, and in that community a X1/9 guy fixed our and SW20 chassi issues essentially. Not many on internet remember but stateside if you go to national Solo II style time trails basically everyones running his setup. All of it mimic'd the guys original Fiat X1/9 and stuff he figured out using Excel for calculations back in like the 90s. He moved to the MR2 for variety of reasons (cost, especially power per $, apparently lightness believe it or not since i guess the X1/9s floorpan was THAT chunky) but not out of any dislike for the X1/9 it was obviously based off of or that he previously raced to national podiums. AW11s are rare enough here but X1/9s are like fairy dust.
