Joseph Lawson to perfect scenarios that could happen. Seattle takes either Vlasic or Burns in the expansion draft (most likely Burns) and Erik Karlsson has a bounce back into the top defensemen in the league. And as an added bonus, if Merkley makes a good transition to the NHL.
Agreed. Also, his personality is a little abrasive so he brings some criticism on himself inadvertently. Of course his contract is “neutral” to “questionable” now and will likely become “bad” eventually.
They can get some use out of Abdelkader playing him on the fourth line. They just have accept they are over paying for a checker and not expect him to score. If you are not scoring goals, you better make sure you play hard in trying to prevent the other team from scoring.
In terms of worst contracts, Lucic only costs Calgary $5.25 million. Erikson runs Vancouver 6 million. Plus, Erikson has regularly been scratched from the lineup. He's completely useless. Lucic actually had a good play-in round against Winnipeg. Lucic)Bennett/Dube finally clicked as a line and did some serious damage. Lucic has no business being on this list based on that playoff performance
Erik Karlsson’s issues are very clear. Injuries are plaguing him/his game, his defensive partner (Vlasic) is regressing horribly, and to be honest it seems his focus isn’t all on on-ice play/performance. I really hope Karlsson has a bounce back, Norris caliber, season and can prove that his contract isn’t as bad as people are saying it is. One last note; pray for Marleau’s first cup!

@@primozvilfan2361 You're missing the point. You are not paying them for what they already did. You're paying them for what they will do for your team. the carey price contract is fine tbh. goalies stay good for longer because its not as physically demanding on cardio, its more acrobatic and mental than for example a superstar forward who has to constantly pump
The thing about Prices contract is he’s a goalie. If you look at goalies in the league most of the best goalies in the league tend to be older. Goalies age like fine wine and only get better with time. Unless of course he doesn’t do that but odds are it will pan out for the Canadiens.

I always felt that Seabrook’s contract was weighing down the Blackhawks who have very little cap space left. It’s a big question mark if he can still play well after 3 surgeries. Honestly I want him to come back and play well. He’s a great leader on and off the ice. But time will tell. A cautionary tale of what not to do as far as long term contracts with no movement clause.
Mitch Marner is overpaid, but he hardly belongs on this list. Constant 90+ point seasons and is still only 23. Hasn't even reached his prime yet. Most of the guys on this list are on the back end of there careers with drastic drops in production and are signed to long term deals

Erik Karlsson is my favorite player in the league and I laughed my ass off at that deal. They have Burns, paying Karlsson made no sense at all. They let Pavelski walk because of it. It was terrible from every angle
Skinner played with Eichel, which was a big reason for his 40 goal output. This season they thought he could anchor his own line without Eichel, which certainly did not work out.
@@moemanncann895 If I recall his bankruptcy case, if he earned more than $4M per season on his next contract, he would have to pay 50% of it to his creditors, or in actual fact, his parents creditors. That's the reason why he signed for less than $4M otherwise it would have been higher.
Even if he can't replicate his offensive production this season (he probably won't), he's probably only slightly overpaid in the grand scheme of things. He's a great shutdown C, and probably would have been around 4mil per season even without the insane spike in production. That said I am glad that Ottawa sold high on him.
The skinner contract is pretty rough but it is not as bad as it seems, he’s been consistently inconsistent (he’s been alternating up and down years) so as long as the Sabres actually get him some decent linemates he should have no problem bouncing back
How bout Jake Voracek? Almost the same thing like Skinner (although he kept his level little bit higher), but his contract is also too high for 55-70 pts/season player. What do you think?
Exactly. Guy was playing almost 30 minutes a night and is being tasked with carrying the entire defense while not bringing in any help. He’s also a guy that got paid based on his accomplishments.
Doughty and Price aren't bad contracts. They're both elite players, they're just on bad teams. Skinner and Bobrovsky aren't bad contracts yet, they just had bad first years on their new deals. They still have plenty of time to make their contracts worthwhile. Karlsson and Vlasic have both those issues: they had bad years individually and they're on a bad team. If the Sharks improve around them, they might still prove their worth. (Subban and the Devils are a similar situation.) Abdelkader's contract is pretty bad, but the cap hit is only 4.25M. I'd argue that Loui Eriksson's contract hurts his team more.
The only problem with karlson’s contract is his health. Hell, 40 pts in 56 gms is extremely good. Doughty gets paid almost the same and couldn’t match that productivity.
I'm not a shark fan but I've always heard that Vlassic was one of the best lockdown defensive defensemen. So 15 points isn't bad as his role isnt a point getter.
As a blackhawks fan, that seabrook contract is an absolute doozy. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, and he did a lot for us, but his performance on the ice is declining. Also, add in the fact that it's a no-trade clause. We'll see what happens. Maybe he'll retire early. Honestly, it'd be nice to see him stay in the organization and be in a role similar to Brian Campbell since he has such an important presence both on and off the ice. He could really help all those new defensive prospects coming in.
You should do a video about times "future considerations" actually turned out to be something. I know Calgary got Robyn Regehr as future considerations from Colorado in the Theo Fleury trade.
I genuinely don't understand why Price is always mentionned as having a bad contract. When you look at his stats for the past few seasons, he literally just had 1 bad season where he battled injuries (and the team was awful). I think it's because he signed his extension the summer right before his terrible year that we say his contract don't look great, but after that, he was good in front of a meh team. Also, I agree that 10.5M isn't the greatest, but it isn't god awful either. 9 or 9.5M would of been more appropriate but you got to remember taxes, which isn't like Florida here in Quebec.
I agree still think Subban can be salvaged apparently the Devils are are interested in Carey Price or Corey Crawford and Jersey has assets and picks to work with just saying could change PK back to mostly normal
In my opinion, Lucic has redeemed himself this season with calgary. Yeah I might be biased but still, he had good points for a 3rd/4th liner with a contact that might’ve been terminated if he hadnt put up those points
Okposo would be a fan favorite if he was getting paid 2.5 million, the only issue is he was signed as a top 6 forward and he had to reform his game after all his concussion issues
I think it is not exactly fair to a player to say that their contract is the WORST after their performance this season. Yes, it definitely sucks when a player gets a massive bump but then can't perform right away, and then a team trades them away and the person goes back to form. The bigger problem to me are those players that are good just one time a year (for instance, Bickell) who then get a massive contract.
What about the fact the NY Islanders are still paying Rick DiPietro over $1 million per year until 2029? Or the fact the Canucks are still paying Roberto Luongo?
Doughty should have more Norris trophies but u could get 2 great d for the price of him.best two way d man though.skinner contract is hilarious.lucic, okposo,Ladd, Eriksson can be grouped together.relax on July 1
As a Rangers fan... Hank at $8.5 Staal at $5.75 Smith at $4.35... They don't look that bad compared to some of these. Next year is the final year on all three anyway....
With the current cap and team structures the only players that should be making 10+ million a season are consistent point per game players. I wanted doughty to stay in LA, but not for that much, maybe 9.5mil max, but that’s pushing it. If doughty really wanted to win again he would’ve taken a cut like mackinnon does to give management the opportunity to get the pieces to win around. That contract for a d-man is like saying “we expect you to reach 50 points and around a +20 +/- for the season.
As a Canucks fan, I have a bad feeling about seeing Jacob Markstrom's name on this list in a year or two. I really hope they don't sign him to anything in the 6 to 8 year range.
As a Sharks fan, I feel that the Vlasic contract is potentially worse than the Karlsson one - 6 more years of a guy that regressed massively the past two seasons is worrying, especially considering we'll be paying him $7mil as a 39(!) year old At least Karlsson has the upside of getting back to vintage EK - even if he gets close, while not being great value he'll still be important for the Sharks especially if he stays healthy
How is Subban here? He's only got 2 years left on this contract. If it was 4,5 or 6 years left then absolutely but 2 yeara left especially with a team that has the most cap space in the league isn't a problem at all tbh
Florida Panthers defenseman Mike Matheson was a conspicuous absence on your list. Perhaps 8 years for $39 million doesn’t seem like much compared to some of those named, but he is so glaringly awful that his 6 years remaining at almost $5 mil AAV is an enormous liability both on the ice and against the cap. Perhaps the Kracken will do us a favor and take him off our hands. The Cats might have to throw in some picks to make it worth their while.
I don't get the Karlsson criticisms, he's on a bad team, definitely worse than the team he was on in Ottawa, yet he's just slightly under the PPG he had when in Ottawa. Give it another season or two, or once their roster starts to improve (which will be difficult given their contracts).
Really like the channel NyQuist, but Im gonna have to disagree with you on Carey Price since he just took s 2-1 series lead over the Pens. Dude pulls in more than double his salary on merch, but thats another topic. Greatest goalie since Roy.
We're hoping Price is gonna pull off a Lundqvist and be good until his 30s. Other than that, yes 10M is high for a goalie. But hes the habs best player by far and we see why he earns that much in the playoffs. The problem is how old he is just like you sakd
Skinner seemed to be so sick when he popped off with Eichel. He fell off HARD I kept him and Eichel in my keeper because I thought they'd continue to be a dynamic duo. Dont regret keeping Eichel obviously but Skinner....🤦♂️
Sure Erik Karlsson didnt have the best year but he was still best in team, 40p in 56 games is not bad. Sure he only played 56 games and was sometimes extremly bad in own zone but looking at some other bad contracts he doesnt compare IMO
I'm trying to decide which contract is the worst. Having a hard time picking between Skinner or Karlsson so I'll just say those are the 2 worst ones imo
Not sure how you can have Lucic on the list without Eriksson contracts are nearly identical and Lucic has been a better bargain then Eriksson as he’s been healthy and out produce Eriksson by nearly double as Vancouver has payed Eriksson 36mil so far for 38 goals both contracts are bad but by the numbers Eriksson is easily the worst it’s why the Neal and Lucic trade happened as neither GM would take the Eriksson contract as his was the worst and the worst player of the 3.
10’s cleaver; they had no intention for him to play all of those years; buts pays him what he deserves for the few years he has left; but doesn’t kill there salary cap for those years. Nice pension cap contract :)
Carey shouldn’t be on the list it should be Weber Carey Prices contract is 15% of there cap space but Weber’s is 11.5% and Carey is definitely at least 20% of the team and goalie tend to decrease Later than players
Kings genaral manager, Rob Blake has to be one of the worst, to him there is only two players who both are way over rated and over paid, Kopitar and Doughty, him staying in his job keeps King in cellar for years to come.

Suter has been quietly been one of the best dmen in the NHL for years and still pulls monster minutes. His droppoff isn't nearly what Parise's is.
Price played his worth yesterday so I guess he could drop a few ranks on this listing just for that shutout alone :p
How bout Jake Voracek? Almost the same thing like Skinner (although he kept his level little bit higher), but his contract is also too high for 55-70 pts/season player. What do you think?
Drew Doughty is a STUD his drop in play is because the Kings suck
Exactly. Guy was playing almost 30 minutes a night and is being tasked with carrying the entire defense while not bringing in any help. He’s also a guy that got paid based on his accomplishments.
marner and tavares
Doughty and Price aren't bad contracts. They're both elite players, they're just on bad teams.
Skinner and Bobrovsky aren't bad contracts yet, they just had bad first years on their new deals. They still have plenty of time to make their contracts worthwhile.
Karlsson and Vlasic have both those issues: they had bad years individually and they're on a bad team. If the Sharks improve around them, they might still prove their worth. (Subban and the Devils are a similar situation.)
Abdelkader's contract is pretty bad, but the cap hit is only 4.25M. I'd argue that Loui Eriksson's contract hurts his team more.
Wow Adbelkader was my favorite player in like 2015 and I just totally forgot he existed until now.
The only problem with karlson’s contract is his health. Hell, 40 pts in 56 gms is extremely good. Doughty gets paid almost the same and couldn’t match that productivity.
Drew Doughty does the job of 2 defensemen. Bargain.
Where would Lucic rank after the big playoff run?
Congrats on 40K!!!
As hawks fan searbrooke should be traded even tho he helped a lot over the 3 cup runs he just is not good anymore and they could a lot of cap space
Hank at $8.5
Staal at $5.75
Smith at $4.35...
Thank you for not putting Uncle Loui in a top 10 for once 😂
You should show +/- too
Nothing makes me appreciate Lundqvist like Carey Price's contract.
Keep up the good work man! I love your videos. The biggest problem with hockey channels is the obvious bias. I dont hear or see any of it in your vids
this guy makes my worst 10 accents on youtube list lol
As a Canucks fan, I have a bad feeling about seeing Jacob Markstrom's name on this list in a year or two. I really hope they don't sign him to anything in the 6 to 8 year range.
As a Sharks fan, I feel that the Vlasic contract is potentially worse than the Karlsson one - 6 more years of a guy that regressed massively the past two seasons is worrying, especially considering we'll be paying him $7mil as a 39(!) year old
At least Karlsson has the upside of getting back to vintage EK - even if he gets close, while not being great value he'll still be important for the Sharks especially if he stays healthy
The only contracts that worry me on the Sharks are Vlasic and Jones. Karlsson, Burns, Kane, and Couture will be fine
Carey Price has been one of my favorite players for his entire career, and I was taken aback by his contract.
How is Subban here? He's only got 2 years left on this contract. If it was 4,5 or 6 years left then absolutely but 2 yeara left especially with a team that has the most cap space in the league isn't a problem at all tbh
This isn’t related to your video but would it be wicked to have one of the players doing an video blogging like the nba players are doing?
Ken Holland signed those bad contracts for no reason but in hopes of keeping Detroit’s playoff streak alive
Basically Stan bowman choose to keep seabrook over panarin
How was he suppose to know some random kid in Russia was gonna sign with them one day and be very good
We're hoping Price is gonna pull off a Lundqvist and be good until his 30s.
Just make a base salary equal for all players and payout bonus's at the end of the regular season based on the players plus minus rating.
So if you are a great player on a lousy defensive team? Or your team has a lousy goalie? Plus minus is overrated.
Sure Erik Karlsson didnt have the best year but he was still best in team, 40p in 56 games is not bad. Sure he only played 56 games and was sometimes extremly bad in own zone but looking at some other bad contracts he doesnt compare IMO
My god that background music ☠️
I'm trying to decide which contract is the worst. Having a hard time picking between Skinner or Karlsson so I'll just say those are the 2 worst ones imo
Florida was HURT by Sergei this year, they woulda been much better if he had played to his standards.
Not sure how you can have Lucic on the list without Eriksson contracts are nearly identical and Lucic has been a better bargain then Eriksson as he’s been healthy and out produce Eriksson by nearly double as Vancouver has payed Eriksson 36mil so far for 38 goals both contracts are bad but by the numbers Eriksson is easily the worst it’s why the Neal and Lucic trade happened as neither GM would take the Eriksson contract as his was the worst and the worst player of the 3.
bowman should have been fired for that seabrook contract
The term is the killer. They should have a max of 4 yr. For any player. One bad injury changes everything. Especially concussions.
Karlsson is basically the worst. Doughty and Burns at least have defensive upside.
10’s cleaver; they had no intention for him to play all of those years; buts pays him what he deserves for the few years he has left; but doesn’t kill there salary cap for those years. Nice pension cap contract :)
The funny thing is that Doughty negotiated his own contract.
Carey shouldn’t be on the list it should be Weber Carey Prices contract is 15% of there cap space but Weber’s is 11.5% and Carey is definitely at least 20% of the team and goalie tend to decrease Later than players
Price in top 10 worst contract ? Have you watch the playoff ?
Kings genaral manager, Rob Blake has to be one of the worst, to him there is only two players who both are way over rated and over paid, Kopitar and Doughty, him staying in his job keeps King in cellar for years to come.
Jamie benn
How are you going to put drew on this list but not going to put Jack Johnson?
