- Comparing Nothing Phone 2 vs the original smartphone, including a camera test, gaming performance, battery life and general features. I've reviewed both the Nothing Phone 2 and its cheaper sibling and here's a side-by-side evaluation - check out my tips and tricks guide for more Nothing OS 2.0 action!
Now, these rather unique mobiles may look similar, but that design has undergone subtle refinements for the 2023 model. The Nothing Phone 2 has an upgraded Glyph setup, with new features like the Timer and Composer. Although the latter will come to the first handset along with Nothing OS 2.0.
More on the software side in my tips and tricks guide, live now!
The Nothing Phone 2 also boasts a better camera setup, with a fresh IMX890 sensor and updated ISP. Colour reproduction is more natural and ambient shots look sharper, brighter and more attractive. Battery life has also been boosted, but the performance is the big winner. Gamers can blaze through Genshin Impact on higher detail settings, thanks to the Nothing Phone 2's Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset.
If you already have the Nothing Phone 1, there's a lot of reasons to upgrade to this new more premium smartphone. If you're torn between the two, and count yourself as a power user - definitely get the Nothing Phone 2. See my full review for a closer look at the new bits.

Good review👍
Plz make a video comparing NP2 with phones using the same chipset / in the same price category.
That would be useful for people looking to upgrade from phones other than the NP 1.
Nobody should upgrade from only one generation of a phone, unless it’s a first generation experimental device like the Pixel 6
Well to be fair I love Nothing Phone 1 design, that side mounted camera is better than placing in front of the screen
FINALLY, a comment from a like-minded. It is so annoying to see a black dot right in the middle.
Yeah, your eyes focus on the center not the edges. Now from the front it just looks like an S23, a major blunder cuz now I won't consider upgrading
Yup
i prefer the front camera to be at the side too. i get that they put it in the middle for better video call but its just too distracting when you're watching content in landscape.
@@miru2583 how often do people video call versus watch content? Companies need to stop being so complacent
At this point it seems better to just buy phone 1, it will get the same OS update anyway, and the 778G chip isn't that bad for everyday use, I don't even play games, I only use social media like snapchat, tiktok, youtube etc.
Finally, uncle spurt does not have to tilt the angle of his camera - because the nothing phone has symmetrical bezels. Most of the shots of the cheap phones are filmed by uncle spurt in a way to hide the fact that the bezels are thicker at the bottom. He even uses dark wallpapers often. Glad the nothing phone 2 get a proper camera treatment!
Bought the NP1 to make the switchback from the iPhone Se 2020 to Android again. So I think I will be satisfied in all ways since I both like Andoid and iOS in its own ways.
love your all videos ❤ watching from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 Cheers 🥂
I got my phone on Saturday and I love it, I got it in grey, I think it feels very stylish and premium and very easy to use... I am very happy with it and would recommend
is it holding up well after 4 months?
How is the phone doing? I would like to know as I'm planning on maybe getting one of these phones
already got the Phone(1) so even though the 2 is an improvement I will happily stick with the 1 for now as it still an excellent phone no need to upgrade just for the sake of it.
Hi i own both Nothing Phone 1 was an incredible joy to use all year now i buyed Nothing Phone 2 and i have heart pain to leave Nothing Phone 1 in cabinet but i always wanted to bigger screen and longer lasting battery but sadly i don't like front camera in the middle of screen
The only reason why I would see a reason to go to the NP2 is if you live in the US. You'll have access to all the necessary 5G bands.
Great video 😎👍
I own a Nothing phone 1, and I've cancelled my pre order of Nothing phone 2.
I assumed theyd have a trade in scheme like Samsung, Google etc. Nope, no trade in scheme.
So I checked what someone like Mazuma etc would offer for my phone 1.
A trade in for a Pixel 7 pro was about what i thought, their offer for my Nothing phone 1? £67 😳
I can get a discounted Pixel 7 Pro for around the same money as the NP2, but also factor in how much you'll lose on selling the Nothing phone 2, itll be pretty bad i guess 😕
Coupled with ramped up price and minor improvements, suffice to say, my next phone won't be a Nothing phone.
Imagine a phone company releasing a phone once every 3 years. And for the time they don't release them, they just work on improving the already existing phone through its promised 3 yrs of security updates.
And that's a bad way to do business.
I only recently bought the Phone 1 for my son and at £199 (deal at O2) it's a steal. So at nearly £400 more (in my case), the Phone 2 is very expensive in comparison! Will probably wait a year to see if it gets discounted by a similar amount before deciding whether to buy myself one. Really wanted a Nord 3 but nothing doing in the UK rn 🤨
sounds like a really good purchase
can you still get this deal ?
how did you get it so cheap?
wow what a price. where I live i can find it for around 250 pounds. If will go on 200 pounds i will buy. Same for nothing phone 2 I will wait for 400 pounds price
@@XELASK82 I bought Nothing Phone 2, it's a marketing phone, sound is bad, vibration is weak and terrible, there are no settings for vibration to increase it, you will miss 100% of notifications in the pocket, comparing to my previous phone. To close all apps you need to scroll a lot to the left in app menu. Its worth max 400 pounds, not mode. I think all bloggers got paid to advertise this phone. It's just bad.
Despite the higher price, it's still a better value thanks to LTPO screen (more efficient OLED) and of course, the SD8+ Gen 1, also efficient and way powerful than 778G...a phone that has that kind of specs, power, efficiency, long battery life, software and decent price for near high end, is remarkable...the "buy this and no need to upgrade for like 5 years" phone.
For me, the flagship level shouldn't cost above $800...unless you're Samsung and iPhone. Also, if you already have the Nothing Phone 1, it's not worth the upgrade, for newcomers who came from shitty phones, it's a steal.
"Better value" than what? The so called "more efficient OLED" is hardly enough and the processor is nothing special
The ONLY thing this overpriced phone has going for it is the glyph. A useless gimmick. It does NOTHING other than that to justify the price they charge.
Those clowns don't even put the charger in the box. They think they are already on Samsung/Apple level.
@@jihigh482 The chipset alone is pricier, faster and efficient, not to mention the upgraded camera sensors and the LTPO screen which helps with long battery life, not the glyph thingy, I'll probably cover it with a cover lol. If you want cheap, go with bloatware phones. Maybe get a Pixel 7 if you have the money, good value mid-ranger. (in my place, it's $700 for Pixel 7 128GB oof and Nothing Phone 2 128GB is at $600)
The only overpriced phone I can think of is Samsung.
I do understand the hate of not including chargers especially if it's type C to C, which most of us don't have and that is kinda stupid.
Oneplus 11 has left the chat.
It s overpriced. Literally the CPU does not matter. I ve had 778 phones, it s more than enough. Nothin gphone 2 looks worse it s bigger more expensive.
Not sure the Phone 2 is enough of an upgrade for me to switch from the Phone 1 just yet, especially if OS v2 comes to the NP1 soon. My main issue is the size of it! The NP1 is already bigger than I'd like, so i was hoping they'd at least slim down the bezels but keep the same or smaller overall size. For this sort of money I'd rather stretch a bit further and get the ZenFone 10 instead to be honest.
I have the same feeling about my phone 1. Awesome phone and experience, but I would prefer a smaller phone. I am rooting for a compact nothing phone next year.
I'd buy either. They're actually very good phones
To me the Nothing Phone 2 feels like a Nothing Phone 1 S. Im rocking an iPhone XS max and will be picking up the Phone 2, for me it's big enough of an upgrade and seems like a natural Android iPhone alternative.
Go for zenfone 10, it's amazing
@@Ozzzzz861 I think you do nothing wrong with your choice. I still enjoy my phone 1 a lot.
Hello sir I had a query about nothing phone 2 is that did you find any in-built compass app in nothing phone?
The only vid i need at the moment lol. The Nothing phone 2 is not in my country yet but the Nothing 1 is available and the price has dropped. So now I have to decide if I will wait for the Nothing Phone 2 or just buy the 1
pixel 7 dropped it's price, seems like a better value compared to phone 2
@@OneGoodCrusader the pixel is not available in my country 🥲
another video????? yay
I bought my first phone Honor 8x after watching your videos on it now after 4 years I'm buying my second phone Nothing Phone 2... Cheers!
If you buy it, tell me how is the battery? Does it last more than 6 hours, and is there any interruption in the system?
where can I get that Nazuna wallpaper from? :(
The video recording indicator gives it away which is which. First thing I would change.
NP1 is a great value for a mid ranger now... im using A52s and itching to buy the NP1 just because of how unique it looks xD.
while i agree the np1 looks great, your a52 is still good and it wouldn't make sense to buy a whole new phone, I'd say wait 1-2years before upgrading
Go with np2
Very good comparison. I'm very curious about what phone is his main phone? Anyone know?
hows the heating of the device during use
Your the only tech reviewer that dont bore the pants of me when you review these product 😂
Where do you get these anime wallpapers? They look pretty cool.
1 phone, but 5 separate video
Hey there Tech Squi*t.. i mean Tech Spurt, could i get some of your phone knowledge please? Would the nothing phone 2 be an upgrade to the Oppo find x2 Pro? Thanking you!
I want a new phone I just don't know witch one to get I was thinking getting the nothing phone 2 but the price is too much I was looking at the honour 90 phone .. any help will do I got a poco NFC X3.. that what I am using at the moment.
Oneplus 10t or nothing phone 1? Any suggestions. Price not being a factor
After spending more than a year of being annoyed by my Pixel 6 Pro, I think I will give up the telephoto lens and get the Nothing Phone 2 as the battery life is far better than the Pixel 7 and the camera is only lagging behind just a bit which is still great in my book. I've given up on Tensor nonsense and by extension anything with an Exynos chip.
I prefer taking pictures with an actual camera anyway.
what's your wallpaper app??
Where do you get your anime wallpapers from
I will wait 2 or 3 months, or I will go for Google Pixel 7 or OnePlus 11, which are cheaper and better. Nothing Phones 1 was having to many software issues, thats why I sold it and went to Google Pixel 6
I was waiting for this to release... but I'm honestly disappointed. For the price of the 12 GB version, I could get the Pixel 7 Pro (which will probably get discounted once pixel 8 announces).
As someone who owns the 7 pro, I bought the np2, the pixel is nice if you can ignore the random bugs every other patch and the tensor being a trash chipset
eh, worse SOC that affects battery life & heat, slower charging. Pixel seems to be overpriced of it was priced the same as NP2.
@@brosplit In my place, Pixel 7 pro cost almost near $900...base model cost $800-750...meanwhile, Nothing Phone 2 cost $600 and you know which one I'm going for. Asia prices are insane for Pixel, so it's good to have an actual value flagship (and Nothing is made by the guy who made OnePlus awesome). Time to upgrade from shitty Xiaomi software.
i thought there's gonna be black phone 2 but it comes out greyish colour..which im not a fan of tbh
I was tempted by Nothing Phone (1) last autumn.....but in the end opted for a refurbished Google Pixel 6. And am very happy with it. So when I come to upgrade towards the end of this year, then instead of choosing the Nothing 2, I'll probably get a discounted Google 7, after Google introduce the Pixel 8.
Nothing phones do look very good, but I think I'll wait until the company is more established before considering getting a Nothing phone.
I do think, as others have said, that their prices are a little on the high side. They should reduce them, so they are more competitive with Google Pixels.
Preordered the 2....Can't wait
Because, samsung is no way. Chinese support and slow upgrades are also a no go.
Sony are expensive and only two os upgrades is a hard camel to swallow.
Love the design and not looking like everyone else's phones
Should've gone for pixel 7 pro
@@tijamir4998 already had that one, I have to have a flat screen.... I know first world problems
@@renemadsen731 True! Flat screens are so much better. Curved screens are a massive gimmick
Nice video
I want to buy but idk if buy 1 or 2. Thoughts?
What is wallpaper source
Where do you download all the wallpapers in your phone vids from
The internet. Probably.
Bro where can I get these wallpapers?
This will be really helpful for me as I am very very confused between getting a NP1 or NP2. (nvm, after finishing the video I am still as confused lmao)
I am really dying to go with NP2 as it would give me with much better hardware and a bit longer software support. But when I look at the price, NP1 does seem more worth for my use case, there's just too much price jump from NP1 to NP2. Really cannot make a decision but would like to go with NP2 because it seems like a phone which I can easily use for at least 5 years.
and also... Nazuna! :D
Please come back to me when you have decided :D
I want to get a new phone for Christmas and I don't want to get over the threshold of 700$ but not under $400 and it seems so hard to find a good choice of phones. Samsung's recent ones fit that but I always hear complaints about battery life and overheating. The only issue I have with iPhone is battery and the annoying thing of having to buy 3rd party due to Apple taking off their old smartphones from the website. The NP1 & NP2 seem so attractive and I feel almost lured hahahaha
for sure!
although I will be making a purchase at the end of September haha
@@ranaprash any update for us yet? having the same struggle
liv seggs. I was also deciding between both of these but went with the redmi note 12 turbo 16/1tb to blast through gachas LOL
@@HrisG LMAOOOO. IT'S HILARIOUS BECAUSE I DID THE SAME :D
I prefer the camera dot in the corner of the screen. I enjoy using my one on a daily basis. So no, the upgrades are not worth it for me.
Sir can i get the wallpapers link plz
Which wallpaper from this phone
This channel is Unique😂
I think I prefer the overall look of the first one. Slightly less chin at the bottom and I prefer having the front facing camera hole to the side rather than the centre.
But the curve on the back is sexier on the 2
Am I the only one who prefers the front camera on the top left corner ? The center position seems to get more in the way of consuming comtenf
What About SAR value?
Moving that selfie camera location from the edge where your eyes dont focus on it to the center was a massive mistake
Where do you get these wallpapers from?
Wallpaper Haven or wallpaper Abyss, these are website btw, the best ones imo.

Where the wallpaper came from
Coming from a current apple user(iphone11) , would they be a good switch or should I go for a Samsung? And if I do go with the nothing phone would the 2 be a better buy?
Why u don't want to be in Apple anymore?
@@lostinreverie2183 want to try something different, bored of the basic looks of iPhone, tired of overpaying for more features than what I need just to stay in the same ecosystem, iPhone isn’t bad but I’ve been using them for about 10 years now
Honestly, in day to day performance the average person won't hardly notice the difference between the snapdragon 778G and the Snapdragon 8 plus generation 1. Yes on paper the newer chip is significantly more powerful, but the UI of the device will be just as smooth between the two of them for most tasks. If you really want to have the new gimmick on the back, I would go with the original one. They didn't really change entirely that much between the two models. In my mind if it was priced at around 399 it would be a much better deal
The original phone was 399, they’re not going to charge the same price for a phone with a better processor and cameras regardless if it may seem like a marginal difference. I’m sure most people won’t notice much difference between a standard mid range and a flag ship in day to day performance but people will still pay the money for a flagship processor.
Its a business not a charity 😅
I have a Samsung A52s with 778G and i can tell that 8 Gen 1 would have been better at some points of my usage. 8 series chip is a flagship chip, so charging the same as last year is asking for too much lol
Yeah true. Unless youre gaming...? Maybe. Think all they've really improved on is the build quality and cooling capacity this year although they've said they've done more internal upgrades.
@@tedlessor3887 bad business for sure
lol 4:54 when you record B-roll and then in editing you realise you didn't record for long enough!
Would a software update bring the Nothing Phone (1) bring it closer to the Nothing Phone (2)?
ig i'll stick with phone 1, but i wish the phone 1 selfie camera was in the middle
I'm still happy with the Nothing phone 1 I see nothing here to me me want to upgrade it. I play games like titan quest a lot and I've not had an issue or wish for a better chipaet
Nothing os 2 looks a bit better but I use nova anyway so don't care.
bro how do you use double tap to lock screen on nova?i was using nova paid version and i installed it in np1 but double tap was not working in it
I can't see the point of buying a phone (2) I'm more than happy with my phone (1) , maybe in the future I might go for the phone (3) or (4) just my opinion!
Same tbh
Like others brands, it’s the same phone, a little bit better. SD778G+ is a good chip. There is no point to switch from NP1 to NP2.
Facts
I don't agree with you because what you're saying is just not true, the 8+ gen 1 scores around 11 lacs lacs on antutu benchmark over the nothing phone 1 with the 778+ which nearly touches 6 lacs. Now that's a solid 80% improvement in terms of processing power :)
@@notexactlynikhil i daily use a NP1 and a 13 Pro. If you only concentrate on benchmarks, of course A15 destroys SD778G+ but on real life, NP1 is smooth with 7 to 8 hours SoT. I feel difference when i take Photos and Videos with image quality, and processing: no debate, 13 Pro is above.
NP2 is a good improve from NP1 and benchmarks and real tests give you right on Battery/Performance but NP2 is neither a Pixel nor a S23/iPhone 14 Pro something on Cameras: that’s why i won’t switch from my NP1.
@@notexactlynikhilbenchmark score is entirely different from day to day usage. i thought SD778G+ would be slow too but so far it didnt lag on me.
Which anime is this wallpaper ? Pls.
I really dont get the hate i think for the price its not a bad device id rather have the 8+gen1 than this tensor trash. Screen is also not that bad i cant really notice a difference between 2k and fhd on a phone. Only downside is that there is no telephoto lens 🤷

Been debating about buying the nothing phone 2 vs iphone 13
Which would u recommend
If You're not a "photograph person" phone 2 would be the better option.. honestly..
Keep the phone you have if it still does a great job. Invest those 600 or more in ETFs or S&P500.

No financial advice 😂
Can you review the copy of this phone please unihertz luna
8+gen 1 is a great processor..better than 7+gen 2...
Having the 8+gen 1 for below 600$ is a good buy...
Plus keep in mind that 8gen 1 was made by samsung whereas 8+gen 1 was made by tsmc....
I am thinking of buying Nothing Phone as my secondary phone during the big billion day say in India.
Is nothing one is good ? should i buy one?
I am confused should i buy N1 or N2?
I returned Phone (2). It is a very mediocre phone that is unpolished in many areas. The glyph is a one-trick pony that gets old after 2 days. I couldn't justify the price of $700 (US) to keep as a second phone and it definitely wasn't even close to be enough to switch to daily driver from S23 Ultra.
Its bloody expensive is it ??
how come the pics from the phone 2 look almost too HDR for me and the phone 1 looks more natural? is it just me?
After consuming a ton of reviews on the newer model I may be SLIGHTLY softening my disappointment, but only slightly. I still feel it's slightly overpriced for what it offers, and still feel the glyph action is simply a gimmick which requires a clear case if you want to protect it, as most people do. Though I'm man enough to admit that the likely software support, plus wireless charging and 1-120hz panel warrant a price jump of some description, I still feel it's probably jumped a tad too much IMO, especially with the other offerings available.
The snapdragon 8+ gen 1 is another important upgrade tho
@@raffyarceus99 Indeed, though it's only about equal to the SD 7 gen 2 which can be found in cheaper priced phones, so that makes me think the price hike must really have come from elsewhere. Maybe the screen, or camera 🤔
@@Nite-owl maybe from greed too!
@@adarshpatil5374 Oh without a doubt greed plays a role. Everything has risen in price over the last year or more and I do feel there's a point where a lot of companies think "people have accepted it's going to rise, so lets maximise on that". Had it been a bit closer to £529, or maybe even £549 I think I'd have been more understanding and might have put it on my list of "maybe's", but at £579 I think it's just a bit too pricey for what I need. It's growing on me, but man, that price sticks in my throat !
I feel like if it was priced 100usd less it would be selling like hotcakes
The audio from the video recording sounds better on the Nothing Phone 1. Why?
I was thinking the same. Maybe he did block the mic with his hand or something?
@@ZacklFair I saw a few other reviews Doesn’t seem to be a coincidence. I mean, it could be. But I don’t think it is. Could be software though. Which means that, at least in theory, it can be fixed with a software update.

If only they didn't change the front camera position....
Yeah. For me, a camera in the corner feels less intrusive.
Agree hole in middle just looks stupid and intrusive. For this alone, all the will to buy the phone gone
To be honest I'll probably just wait til a phone 3 or 4 comes out. The Phone 2 isn't really much of an upgrade.
OMG... Forget the Nothing phone 2... 10k shy of 1m subs. Well done you crazy bald favourite UK youtuber type person...

Now I feel like a donkey for having those hopes
Never gave high hopes = never get disappointed
Nothing should have just used the Snapdragon 7 gen 2 processor to keep the price down by $200 why would anyone get this over a Pixel 7 Pro same price with a way better camera. The OS on the nothing phone isnt good enough over stock Android. Selling this phone for $800 for a mid range phone. Y'all crazy to buy this.
I feel it's too early to go for more premium type would have stick to the midrange 👎👎👎
This is midrange.
