Nice that you're finally testing the Megane. It's a beautiful car. I've test driven the Megane myself and I've been impressed. The ID.3 looks like a "Test"-Car, not finished, the Megane looks like a normal car, a hot hatchback - with 22kW AC and Google Automotive, absolut top! Thanks for your testings. We love it.

Exactly. This isn't even a competition, the Megane is in a completely different league, at least with regard to the interior. Love the physical buttons and that matte wood trim 👍

@@Kvickification It is like Dacia of EVs. Cheap and plasticky. With is weird... because when it comes to fossil cars, VW always had one of the best quality interiors in its class. For me it was huge selling point. Now even the Skoda is better.

@@uk574 to be fair interior of modern Škodas tend be quite nice, so the last part is not that insulting (Škoda nowadays is more of a "value for money" brand rather than budget one). But yeah, ID interiors suck but frankly new VW interiors are not that great either (though at least they said they will be getting rid of those awful haptic touch "buttons" in the future).

For me, this Megane looks amazing, I would like it with smaller rims. 16 inches would be perfect and would give it better performance. Frech cars have been always a little crampted inside so If you are a big guy probably would not like it. But it's efficient, looks really nice, it's relatively practical for every day use and medium size travels. Beats Id3 in quality, sound & infotaiment performance and design, beats Model 3 sr+ in sound proofing and audio quality, but it fells down in range to both, still ok mileage for the money. No wonders why it is a best seller in France. I just hope that Reanult and Peugeot would offer more model like this one.

THAT was cramped. and I really did not like the infotainment, now I have the new renault megane e-tech. And even though it isnt at all as spacious as the picasso.. I now have more of that feeling again, like I have much more to go on.. Probably due to the e-c4.. But renault has really made a great car here.

Thanks for all your fairly objektive and informative reviews! The Renault Megane E-Tech looks really good and its not a heavy giant like so many others. As you said, more like a hot hatch. The tech is above almost any other. It drives efficiently and due to low weight, super steering and driving dynamics its pretty agile, but also comfortable. Good charging capabilities, particulary with 22Kw AC charging included. Decent range. Yes, I have signed, but still waiting for it.

I live in France so we are starting to see them on the roads now, they look great. The build quality and materials seem very good, better than VW.. but I would not trade in my Kia e-Niro (2019) for one. The rear seat and boot space are not up to the Kia and that ‘letterbox’ rear window..no thanks. Renault used to do estate version of the Megane which were a really useful size, let’s hope they do something along those lines with this excellent platform

Well..i don't know in Norway...but here in Italy there's a full 10000 Euro gap between the top of the range, full spec Megane E-Tech anf the base M3... so not really in the same ball park...the M3 is on a completely different level though, much better performance, more comfort, better software , state of the art battery technology..as i've said, two different cars aiming two different segments of the car market...i think the Megane is priced too high for what it is , at least the top version with all the goodies included. It could be 7000 Euros cheaper IMO. The "entry level" version is ok. Unfortunally the ZOE is going to be out of production soon. I'd seen a future for that car if Renault would have lowered the price by 5-8k Euros. In my home town there's a car share service that uses the ZOE on a per-minute fare and i've been using these cars quite a lot. To me the ZOE is the perfect car for the day-to-day use. I would have bought one ...if it was 10k cheaper!!

It's the one of the rare manufacturers that does software decently thanks to Google. Also it doesn't have too many bings and bongs - the ones it does have are silent enough.
Interior is beautiful. Driver assist features work well and thanks to being European car, it has better speed sign detection than Tesla here in Europe.

I have the id.3 tour 5 and I love it, yes the interior isn't great but it is very spacious and it's matrix headlights and travel assist is just amazing, I would not like to be without travel assist or similar system again for all my long distance motorway driving. It's a very comfortable car and great on back roads, very solid on the Motorway, you can feel the weight though when you go around roundabouts too hard.
I would get 320-350 Kms this time of year at 120 Km/hr with 68 Kwh of storage, it maybe an 82 Kwh battery but only 68 Kwh are usable and 73.5 when brand new. So there some degradation there in 1 year and 45,000 Kms but in reality I do not notice any less range than when I got it. I'm not sure whether the app I have is capable of reporting the capacity properly. Off the motorway 400 Kms will be easily achievable and in warm weather probably 450 Kms.
The id3 tour 5 astonishingly does not have speakers in the rear doors, typical VW penny-pinching and the sound system is not fantastic and turn it up and the door rattles.
The megane looks nicer inside, I don't have any issues with VW software really except android auto can be sluggish and not connect sometimes and loose GPS but this could be more to do with android and my phone which is most likely nothing to do with VW software.
On DC chargers I've yet to see more than 60 Kw from 30% charge but this is an issue with most electric cars today still have poor charging times at fast chargers, this is unacceptable and needs to be addressed, the megane is no exception, cold batteries also charge slower this is also unacceptable in cars like the id3 that have battery heaters.
The Buzz can charge at 180 Kw but it's charging curve is poor but it's a big improvement but it uses a completely different battery from a different supplier than the id range.
22 Kw AC is definitely great but the biggest issue for me would be front wheel drive, I would never buy a FWD ev after test driving the Kona, E-Soul and Leaf, they are downright dangerous in my opinion and irritating and RWD makes a massive difference to driving performance and satisfaction and FWD is the only reason I will not buy any particular EV. I found the FWD electrics I drove absolutely infuriating.

I drove a rental id3 for four months (due to ampera-e traction battery replacement issues....) and it's not a crap car, but there are so many stupid design choices and issues: really really crappy software, glitchy hardware (random fails and denail of service issues, like audable power supply artifacs), no tow hitch, tiny screens, lots and lots of hard plastic.
the only amazing thing about the id is the adaptive matrix led lights.
In my opinion the id schoud be 5 to 10 k euro cheaper (china made car price range) to be in the good value range.

    • @o00scorpion00o
      @o00scorpion00o ปีที่แล้ว

@@michelroovers4039 5-10 K cheaper ? the id range is around 5,000 Euro's more expensive now compared to last October when I got my tour 5 + VW are now excluding kit that would have come with the car a year ago, definitely not a good time to buy a VW but this is thanks to Europe's rejection of Russian gas without any alternatives, idiots!
The matrix headlights are absolutely amazing.
Interior space is good in the id3 and it's a very comfortable car for long motorway cruises and the travel assist works well, so well that I had a loan car while I was having a software update done and it had not got travel assist only adaptive cruise and I really missed not having the travel assist, I was very happy to get my car back.
Interior is a let down obviously and some of the plastics especially on the doors and lower down on the dask look like they came from the caddy van.
Overall though, I'm very happy with the id3, had headlight replaced due to moisture and the other one is to be replaced soon for the same reason. In a year I clocked up around 45,000 Kms.
The real issue I have is the poor charging speed, I've yet to see more than 60 Kw from 30% charge so this needs to be improved, I don't want to have to plug in at 10% or lower to get good charging speed but the megane isn't much better neither is most electric cars today they're a joke when it comes to using DC chargers especially with cold batteries when it can double charge times, this is completely unacceptable in 2022 nearly 2023, they need to get the 0-89% down to 15 mins for it to be a viable alternative to ICE cars. Still, with the tour 5 range I rarely use public chargers but it's a completely painful experience when I need to use one having to wait so long.
The id buzz can charge at up to 180 Kw, of course the charging curve is not good as usual but it's progress but the buzz uses a different battery from a different manufacturer unlike the id range.
So in reality the greatest issue I have with the id3 tour 5 is that charge times are too long on DC and poor software but in reality many of the issues with software I have are related to Android auto and I would imagine these are more android issues than VW.
Overall though great car the id3 tour 5, good space, good headlights, great to drive, decent power and rear wheel drive, I would never drive a FWD car with more than 140 Hp, I test drove the Kona, E-Soul and Leaf and they all nearly drove me bonkers especially on damp and wet roads. RWD makes a massive difference.

I think for 25 usd this things an absolute steal and although its chinese it would get a pass with the MG name. I think this could be the EV for the future as it would be affordable which is the one thing that no EV mfg has been able to take control of. The one that brings out the true ev for the people will crush the ICE market and will absolutely destroy the EV market. Its time for that car to come. I think by 2025 we will have more then a few lower cost evs to choose from until then the mfg all seem to be after the same market and lots are going to lose their shirts.

Current Zoe owner, was considering this but experienced some serious issues with Renault and their dealers last year when my car needed a repair.
The spec and pricing of the Megane in my country swings it further also. Missing the memory seats and some other features important to me. It's too close to the Model 3 Standard.
I wouldn't consider the ID3. Too many issues and the interior makes my Zoe look plush. 🤣
I'm leaning towards the Model 3 right now.

How does the megane compare against the Citroen e-c4? Which car do you think is roomier and has better economy and build quality (interior)? I currently own the e-C4, battery could be a little bit bigger maybe just by 10-15 kWh but apart from that small flaw I'm very satisfied!

    • @Brandofviti
      @Brandofviti ปีที่แล้ว +2

I might answer this. I bought a citroen e-c4 last year. Great car to drive, but as you I noticed a rather low battery capacity compared to my need especially at winter. Also I wanted a bigger boot space.
What got to me was the infotainment though. I had a early model and so on got no state of charge. No cut off at charge at 80 percent etc. So after a while I never got used to it and sold it. I now have had my renault for about two weeks. I agree. The build quality on the citroen is great, however. I really havent found any worse build quality on the renault, but MUCH better infotainment, better range, I now feel I have much more to go on for storage.
Economy.. it is more expensive. You do have MUCH more levers and choices.
If you want a car with great build quality and do not need so many options? Citroen has a great car there. Amazing comfort as well.
If you like more choices and are willing to pay more for it as I did. This is pure greatness from renault

Overall I am very happy with mine, there are some weird things that I don't understand with the infotainment, cannot figure out why I have no history of trips and efficiency, almost seems like I need to do that manually, which is super weird to me, it should just record the trips I take, but maybe it is a setting I have not found yet

i would buy the ID.3 because of the rear wheel drive and the bigger battery. but i like the interior of the Megane e-tech. just keep in mind that the ID.3 is 3 years older but is still better regarding the EV tech.
Next year the ID.3 supposed to get a facelift. Maybe they go one step further with an MEB V1.5??
When you compare the many EV related boxes in the Taycan with the PPE platform, you can see the massive advancements in the EV tech department that brings less weight, better efficiency and cost savings. 50€ here, 50€ there.... it adds up.
Maybe VW can show a few of similar improvements for that facelift. But I am not sure if they will give us some of the cost savings.
It is sad that Renault is a bit behind regarding the EV tech.
