Renault Megane E-Tech 2024 review: French small hatch makes electric car switch with crossover twist

  • The 2024 Renault Megane E-Tech is here, but it's not the small hatchback you know and, maybe, love. Instead, the next-generation model is a small SUV, although its ride height isn't as high as some of its competitors, so more of it's more of a crossover.
Either way, that's not the big news, as the Megane E-Tech is also a fully electric vehicle, with no petrol or diesel engine in sight. Needless to say, the storied French nameplate is moving well into the future, where zero-emissions motoring is the norm and SUVs dominate. But that's not to say it's lost its sense of style because just look at it.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar and her family of three spend a week living with the Megane E-Tech's sole launch variant, the mid-spec Techno EV60, to find out how well it measures up against the competition, including the Hyundai Kona EV, among others.

I have a Techno trim Megan for a year now in Ireland, because of low temperature it uses max of 18 kwh per 100 km in winter. And yeah it's a full on hatchback not even close to SUV... it's in a same category as ID3, Born or E-C3.
Perfect car for a couple not for a family as back seat is very small. Any chinese rival is left in a dust with a quality build, Renault feels like a luxury car which approvers the price tag.

This is not a crossover it's a hatchback. It's dimensions alone shows this. It has some crossover looks but it isn't one at all & even Renault doesn't advertise it as such.

    average consumption WLTP : 15kWh/100 for the Megane e tech, 17kWh/100 for the EX30 ! 😎

Watching this review i would have thought it might have scored a 6 and not an 8. There were a lot of shortcomings that were focused on.
But in Europe it is regarded as one of the better small EVs so im not surprised it got an 8. I do agree that it is not priced well for this market.
I feel Renault has missed an opportunity here.

My mom has one in the UK and it is impressive, in fact surprised me as I am not sold on EV's. Pricing is absurd as are most EV's but I would never buy an EV outright, better to do a contract hire/lease and you get somee good deals that way and then hand it back....

Price and features are slightly disappointing compared to something like BYD seal that was reviewed by this channel recently. I know they are different car types, but the seal just has more…

Suggesting BYD is equivalent to Renault? Dreaming buddy.

Naaa, just that this is half a car. You can buy it, but when the Chinese cars have all the bells and whistles the French cars need to have the same.

@@chriso2553Looked at them both here in France. BYD can't do anything that the Mégane can't do as far as I could see and the latter looks gorgeous! So bought it! Never been happier. Still don't get why the Export version has a smaller screen though.

It can be a great hot hatch as an electric car. It's easy to go to sleep in too slow car. 😴😴

64k are way too expensive for this small size suv, I would rather buy bye seal , this car price should be around 50k to have better competition
