Thank you Charlie. You spoke at our annual safety meeting at Barrick Cortez in Elko NV years ago. Your story was inspiring!

Charlie, my brother (Ronald L. Rinker) graduated Annapolis the year you entered as a plebe (You may have played the trumpet in the Annapolis band) , I was in your brother, Larry's high school class at SMN, and one of my other brothers happened to be a parachute rigger in the Navy in circa 1964. I owned/read your book recounting your time as a POW and have since passed it on to my son, who lives in Leawood. I seem to remember that your impression of Sen.John McCain, (who I think was a POW during the same time as you were), was that he acted honorably, and in fact, had a chance through his father's connections, to be freed at some point but chose instead to stay behind so someone who had been held longer could go home to their family. My feeling was that no one got out of that situation without being somewhat disappointed that they couldn't be 100% non-informational, but now I'm seeing ugly rumors being spouted that the Senator gave up information that endangered fellow airmen. I assume it is just hateful and cowardly internet rhetoric, but I wonder if you are in a position to know the truth and can discount the rumor. Also, there is another rumor about Jane Fonda (you know the one). Did she actually give notes written by POWs for her to deliver for them back home, to their captors instead?

Esse piloto jogou bombas em mulheres e crianças, provavelmente MATOU covardemente centenas de famílias inteiras e agora virou mensageiro da paz e da bondade no mundo??
