Colin, I like you, used to avoid conversation with strangers. It wasn't until I realized that me saying hello, or having a little chat with someone, may be the only social interaction they have with anyone that day, week, or month. Imagine that on your worst day, you alone have the power to make a strangers day just a little bit brighter. It does get easier the more you talk to people, a kind word doesn't cost a thing, and could mean the world to the one receiving it. Just something to think about. P.S. I love the quality of the videos, you two do an excellent job with them.
for people with autism or severe anxiety it does not get easier with practice and depending on the day can be very stressful and wearing. I agree that a cheerful greeting is a wonderful thing, just don't press it if not reciprocated.
I am 56 and I don’t mix well with others don’t have friends due to it, it’s a running joke with my wife that I am unsociable old git, but being alone is better than trying to talk to people and crowds is a big Nono, we were in a supermarket once and it got busy and I just had to get out so we left the trolly full of item and left, that was years ago now but at the time I just wanted to get out of there, I sit in the van nowadays while my wife does the shopping. I used to skive off of school as the class room was a horrible place to be. The more people talk about it the better as it makes others realise they are not the only ones like it so thank you for that.
I have never heard anyone else describe how I feel in social situations as well as you did. I feel the exact same way. Thank You for sharing your feelings with us.
Hearing Colin speak like that really hit home with me. I'm exactly the same in so many ways. Taking to strangers and making conversation and socialising I'm not good at. Thankfully I've got a gorgeous wife who completely gets me and understands me. Anyway after all this deep stuff, another great video 👍🏻. Looking forward to the next one.
I'm 72 and still have trouble talking to people. I think it started with my mother always answering for me. Apparently I didn't talk fast enough for her. She got tired of waiting for me to talk. So she would talk for me. So, I thought, why bother, she will answer I didn't need to. If I'm one on one it's better. But throw in a third or more and I'm lost. Keep up the great videos, guys. Watching from NE Ohio USA.
So that's what that funny-shaped piece of wood in my boat is - a Calder Spike! I bought my well-travelled boat last March from a broker and found various objects I didn't recognise, one turned out to be an anti-vandal key but the lump of wood remained a mystery. It was obviously made for a specific purpose so I kept it - and now I know what the purpose is, so thanks for that! Also thank you Colin for explaining about your inner struggles, you are performing a real service to us all by talking about it so clearly and honestly. I became a continuous cruiser 18 months ago and I love it but one big regret is that I had to give working as a Samaritans volunteer but I have alerted my old colleagues to your vlog because I think it will help volunteers to understand how to respond when someone with similar struggles reaches out to them. The Samaritans training is very good but there is nothing like a clear description from 'the inside'.
For the life of me i cannot understand why anybody would give these vlogs a thumbs down, they are entertaining , informative and of superb quality, i accept that the subject matter may not float your boat (see what i did there) but that is not a reason for a thumbs down, that just a reason to move on to something else Colin, you are a fascinating guy, intelligent, funny and refreshingly honest and needn't worry about that awkwardness, we all have those moments and these vlogs help us see you for who you are Shaun cracks me up, hilarious and seems like an incredibly nice guy, everyone should have a Shaun in their lives Colin, would love to see a vlog sometime about how you prepare and edit these vlogs - a behind the scenes type thing , they are such good quality that would be awesome, would love some tips from you .thanks for your efforts guys - roll on next friday
Colin, you are not alone in feeling like you do. One of my best friends was extraverted, always smiling and happy. Life looked so good for him. One would never have known the tortured soul he possessed. The pressure of always expected to be on and happy....he was a master of not burdening his friends with his inner demons. He got past this with help from his true friends and counciling. No matter the burdens you carry, those who care about you, accept them as part of you and everyone else can pound sand.
Please don't change who you are. Not all disabilities are visible. Not all situations clear. But you seem to be striving and achieving a level of happiness doing what you love, with whom you love. People in general just need to slow the eck down and relax and stop thinking its all every ones else's fault. Keep it up guys and best wishes in all you do.
I grew up in a different country and I have to say a lot of people here want to chat but don't have great conversational skills. (I'm generalising, I know!) So I feel like you are being hard on yourself, I bet if we chatted you would be fine because I make an effort to carry a conversation and watch for cues from the other person. So I guess I'm saying don't take all that on you ok? Two people need to make an effort to have a good conversation. Also some of us introverts need long stretches of solitude between social interaction and that is absolutely fine and acceptable
I've been a subscriber for some time, I've normally kept my trap shut, so here goes. Never apologise for being you I like the three of you as you are continue that way. If ever I do happen to meet you I will not be offended if you hide. ( but I will bring cakes)
I was born with cerebral palsy which means I walk like a penguin it’s opened far more doors than it’s ever closed and just because of that experience not only do I get what you’re saying but I understand what you mean particularly on the ‘first meeting’ thing (only from my own perspective of course). I’m just loving the whole canal thing it’s just brilliant and I only hope you both know how speaking up about mental health really does make a difference thank you so much. xx
Thanks for another great vlog, gentlemen. And thanks, especially, for the mental health reminder you provided. Your thoughtful words can help people understand themselves and others better, and that's key to a more civil society.
Colin, you don't owe anyone any kind of social interaction. They have zero claim upon your time or life energy. That you're willing to give it, and feel bad when you can't, speaks volumes about your good nature - many people would just tell the world to piss off. You're a kind soul, don't be bothered by choosing not to provide what you're under no obligation to give.
Thank you for sharing your mental health perspective. Most people have no idea how difficult it can be to just make it through a day. My daughter was diagnosed with BPD in her teens, but at that time (early 1990's) there was not much information. Through the years her mental health deteriorated and it was not until years later while taking a class at NAMI, I learned what was going on in her head. I sobbed when I realized how horrendous her struggle had really been. I am glad you have shared your own struggles as it makes people more aware and hopefully sympathetic to others who may have issues which are not readily apparent.
Colin I find your honesty about your mental health so refreshing, I do suffer anxiety with my work at times but I can then start yapping to complete strangers & the anxiety disappears. Shaun seems like a very supportive partner & top bloke. You guys are natural in front of the camera & the vlogs are extremely professional & bloody entertaining & informative. Still playing catch up on the older vlogs. Safe travels boys.
Ha! You mentioned Dewsbury! We once did a duck race at Dewsbury for hospital radio and nearly lost all the ducks - they escaped! We were all frantically chasing about 200 yellow plastic ducks down Dewsbury canal because we had rented them for the race and needed to get all of them back - memories 😂
I know what you are saying about meeting strangers, I also struggle with smalltalk when I don't know someone. I avoid parties and situations where I don't know most of the people. I have often been described as rude or arrogant, where I'm just shy. I find it very frustrating at times.
Australia Calling: You are who you are, people like me understand that, i have lost friends (i thought they were) because of who I am. This why I like your commentary on Mental Health Colin
Hey! Another great vid...and fun to see more of Dillon who, CLEARLY, loves his life with you two aboard "Silver Fox". I also love the drone footage, and thanks, Colin, for your vulnerability. Your sharing so openly about your struggles will help others realise they're not alone in the world. Have a great weekend, and looking forward to the next episode! Cheers! J.
Colin, your openness and perspective on mental health issues is amazing!!! Thank you so much for having the courage and strength..... to say so eloquently, what some of us have not been able to say. Very powerful! Much love to you, Sean and Dillon❤
You hide your problem talking to strangers very well on camera, you are such a good communicator on your videos. I’m similar to you talking to strangers but thankfully that’s as far as it goes. It so refreshing hearing your issues and how you cope with it. I’ll stop being so judgemental in future. Keep up excellent work.
Another great vlog and some great info on mental health Colin! Disability is not always a visible thing! I always love the northern way people say Jewsbury :). Looking forward to the next one. Ian
I find the obsession of narrow boaters with toilets to be amusing. Recently another channel did an update video on their composting toilet. I referred to it as a human litter box, they did not seem to see the humor. Hope your weekend is full of happiness and look forward to the next installment.
Haha! yes! Conversation among ALL boaters eventually turns to toilets. I think it's because its a subject that nobody can agree on. There isn't a perfect solution though, that's maybe why the debate is endless. LOL at the other channel not seeing the humour. Their loss. Got to laugh at life, poo and all 😂 Have a fab weekend, Eric 👍🏻
I know this is an older video, but I wanted to thank you for mentioning the mental health issue. You are so right, we simply cannot know what is going on in the other person's head. The needn't have even an ongoing issue, maybe they just heard that a loved one passed, or their spouse lost their job, or 1001 different things. Let's choose compassion and empathy - we can do that even if we don't know the root cause of their differences.
I really like Colin as a presenter and storyteller. It's wonderfull to watch your vlogs, when you have had your research cap on, and up comes great informative storys and lovely old pictures. 😄😀
Basically, what your talking about is simply compassion and understanding for others. It reminds of a phrase I've used a number of times and that is " damn man, give him a chance, lighten up". Your a good man, love you guys.
Watched you guys on Amazon Prime and am now working my way through the videos! I find them very relaxing and entertaining during these trying times. I love the ways you guys laugh--it makes me laugh, too. Thanks!
I really appreciate your comments on social interactions Colin. Many times I have felt the awkwardness that you mention and have wondered what I did to cause it . Its good to know that its just a natural thing w some people . I will try to keep that in mind now . Thank you for taking the time to try to explain this . Safe and happy travels to both of you wonderful guys .
Well, we watched this on a big screen with beer and nibbles and lo and behold you are talking effluent! My brother in law put his pizza down and I finished it. No stomach some people, LOL. Great vlog again, we now have a Foxes Afloat start to the weekend watching on a big screen tv and relaxing into the weekend. Thanks again! (BTW he did pick up another slice after a minute or two)
Did any one else go "wack" when the camera came that close to the metal bridge? LOL Colin, thank you for giving an insight to the thought processes going on when a situation of conversation may erupt. Take care guys and God Bless, Paul from Florida.
Another great one from the boys, keep it going. Dont worry about not wanting to make small talk with everyone, Roland and myself are the same. Sales people are the only ones good at talking about anything in detail to anyone...
Great show. Please don't ever stop doing the outtakes. I laugh my bum off. I can relate. I avoid chatty Cathys and talkative Toms most of the time. Unless I am familiar with them. If I'm in a mood, I avoid them as well.
Hi guys, I just love your canal videos ! they are so entertaining and funny. We moved to Oz in 1986 (there arent any navigable canals here !) We travel around the country in our motorhome (well we will when covid allows ! ) There is so much stigma surrounding mental health issues, so I think its brilliant when you talk about your mh issues so openly and honestly; this is what encourages the general public to think about this often taboo subject and not to be quick to judge or criticise others. Stay safe and keep on boating !
Along all with all the great production skills you have, Iove the way the narration and talking to camera is now soooo relaxed. You two have come such a long way in a remarkably short time. Nice one boys.
Love the video, the scenery around y'all is amazing!! I agree about the starting a conversation or even continue one, i give enough to be polite or maybe a bit rude depending on the situation, but some folks just chat away and that's when you just nod your head and smile.
Just watched this episode of your journey. I spent my working life in the NHS helping people with psychological problems and what you say is not uncommon. I’m retired now and wouldn’t want to say this or that not knowing all the circumstances but a few words of advice that might help. Starting conversations is “small talk” so that’s what it should be and all it should be in most cases. You can think about the subjects people bring up, like the weather where have you been where are you going you get the gist. You can practice a few of these and become good at being the lead in the conversation nice day looks like rain etc. One other thing to practice and get good at is ending the conversation, we’ll have a good day, nice to meet you, have a good journey, I’ll need to be getting on. Enjoy the videos even though not a boater just started watching the Amazon series then followed onto TH-cam👍
As I work my way through the Vlogs, I am really finding the sections on Mental Health are providing very thoughtful commentary on the issues that Colin, in particular, feels and has to deal with. What I am finding most useful is the way that, in general, the issues are being dealt with and edited into the main Vlogs. This is, in my opinion, bringing the issues that you (both) deal with into a clear focus of how the issues are part of day to day life and not as separate stand alone events that are easily compartmentalised and that can be dealt with in isolation. Vlog9 does stand out as a necessary precursor to the way in which you are very successfully editing these issues now and even though he has less to say, the section done by Shaun in an earlier Vlog (52?) was very good. I would hope that it will make me much more thoughtful, in the future, of how I find people when I meet and deal with them.
Im the same. I stay away from social events and all sorts. I can listen to someone talk but i lose concentration then struggle to understand some things being said. I struggle to make a conversation with strangers but even with friends and family. Sometimes mid sentence my mind goes blank and i have no clue what i was going to say no more. Even if i get told what i was saying before going blank i still struggle to finish what i was trying to say. Im new to your channel and this is the first video ive seen. Ive subbed 👍 i came here from crusingthecut. ☺
Thanks for the reply Colin 👍 im busy watching you guys being swept away in Vlog #57. I think i would of 'lay an egg' in that situation. By heck that tide was coming in fast🌊🌊
I wait up till after midnight for your notifications. (Down Under) I am really enjoying the map views so that we get a real sense of where the canals go.
Hi Colin, I'm the same only the other way round, I can chat away to passers by and strangers. But when it comes to talking to people I know, I get hung up, I think it is because what I say matters to them and I don't want to annoy them or say the wrong thing. Whereas with strangers I know I won't see them again so don't care what they think. Hearing your stories makes me think a lot more about trying to tell people what is going on in my head and the thought processes that lead to my actions.
If you ever think, that being a perfectionist and doing a take 20 times is nerve wrecking, then watch your own vlogs! They are brilliant *because* of the demand for perfection - plus that makes divine outtakes. 🤣
Hey Colin I work with people every day of my working life (I'm a Psychologist), and it's STILL really hard to make those first bits of conversations go well. If they don't like sod 'em! :)
I'm terribly shy when it comes to talking to strangers and acquaintances and even people I've known all my life! I'm terrible at socializing. My mind just sort of blanks (sort of like stage fright- which coincidentally I get too :-) ), and I then look everywhere but at the person and when I do manage some sort of 'conversation' (if it can be called that) and I feel uncomfortable, I find it impossible to meet the person's gaze, despite my best efforts. Worst of all, when I'm uncomfortable I laugh at the silliest, not even funny things. Ugh. And then I go beet red because I feel even more self-conscious. So yea, you're not alone. Thank you for sharing all your worries and troubles and thoughts. Your videos are enjoyable anyway, but your honesty about your struggles make them all the more engaging.
Yet again you deliver a fantastic vlog. You’re both so funny and I know where you’re coming from with the conversation at locks Colin cos I’m the same with strangers. I never get the ‘bell’ from TH-cam even though I’m subscribed but I know it’s 4pm Fridays so look forward to the next instalment. Keep up the good work guys x
A very thoughtful & thought-provoking video there guys. As the parent of an adult son with Asperger's & ADHD I greatly sympathise with your issues Colin. And thanks for the advance notice - if we ever have the chance of meeting, I promise not to shout at you if you scuttle back into the boat !! 😎😃😲
Thanks for putting this video together !! As a person who suffers from anxiety and depression I understand…I’m glad you talk about it 💥 ( one day at a time ) that’s my view. Stay safe and take care !!
Colin, you have such an amazing way of describing issues. Since childhood I've struggled with being shy. I don't like social situations. It always feels awkward around people I don't know. It's so good realising so many other people are the same. Thanks for getting this stuff out there. 😊
1. That lock with the wedge looked wicked! 2. What was the story on the train set? 3. Good reminder about not being quick to judge!! 4. Thought you guys had air conditioning? 5. Colin, you’re an inspiration. You use your strengths and talents to the max. You really are a natural at this vlogging! I absolutely love hearing you talk!!! Both of you are like a dip in a cool pool on a hot summer day! 6. Have you ever won a belching contest? You’re pretty good at it! Makes me laugh!
I am sure I have said this before, but it needs repeating. You two are just the cutest. Thanks for sharing what you do, you help more than you know. Really lovely footage of your journeys.
I started from number 1 and I am going through all your vlogs slowly, so they last, I also watch the new ones when they come up on Fridays. I've watched a lot of your vlogs more than once and I send links of my faves out to my friends and family to watch. Just loving your journey.
I look forward to your blogs!!! You two are so cute !!Thank you for including us all in your journey! My love has a narrow boat....we are both in the US.....I am hoping to get over my fear of flying so I can one day enjoy the canals with her when she goes over. I have watched so many vlogs and vids....it is time to get over my fears and just go!!! looking forward to getting to know you both as you share your lives with us. And as a side note to you Colin......Thank you for your courage. In sharing what goes on with you, with us, you help us who have challenges and those of us who don't to learn more about understanding each other and compassion. Love you two!!! Michael
I subscribed after seeing you On Martin zeros video , I’ve got to say I’ve never really payed any attention to canal boats , but I find your channel really interesting ✅ cheers
I think i have the same social anxiety, i can not hold a conversation, and most of my answers to anybody is just yes or no, i just really can never think of anything to say. Although i have always gone to work, i find it just holds me back, and people just think i'm weird, and even though i have worked on the same job for 23years i still get anxious before i go to work every day, because i don't want to talk to people.
👍🐶 Thanks, Colin, for your refreshing honesty and bravery in sharing your challenges. These are things everyone needs to be aware of and be empathetic to. Thoroughly enjoying all your content, and looking forward to following your continuing travels. All the best to you three 🐶.
What’s so hard about conversation in Yorkshire? Goes like “Hiya, wethers crap agin innit” “Not as bad as we ad it mate” “Ha ha, mebbe, see ya later” “ yea cheers” Job done lol.
I can really relate to your advice about "conversations." At times, I've felt myself wishing to be a dog, who when he doesn't have much to say, he just sniffs the others' butts! Your thoughts are a treasure, and your honesty sets fine standards for us all. Thanks for all of what you are doing.
Great video again lads! Hey Colin, you are definitely not alone with the communicating thang. I'm sort of OK until my mental voice informs me that people are looking and listening to me. My mind then goes blank and completely lose the thread of what I was saying. Hate myself for it. Still, at 63 I've got used to it.XX
OMG sorry Colin I laughed as I am sure Shaun did too. Now I know why you all wanted nothing to do with a pump out toilet.🤣😂 Good words of wisdom regarding people’s struggles. Thank you!💜
I am the same way Colin when talking. Everything comes out wrong, I get more nervous, then trip over my words and end up feeling embarrassed and even a little shaky. It never seems to get any better, but now I,m a little older I just put it down to senility lol and leave people to think what they want.❤❤👍👍🇬🇧.
Hehe! Yeah, social media is like that for us. 99% are lovely people but the 1% think what they want and find a reason to complain. It used to bother us but we just laugh now 😂
Ironic that you manage to talk to the camera where many people will listen and watch the videos. Perhaps it will help you with what you call your 'social' issues. I think you are very articulate, intelligent and funny all at the same time and you can be happy with the wonderful communication you do on the podcasts. I remember a country singer who stuttered badly when he had to talk but could sing flawlessly. Keep going, I will be watching.
Thank you for talking about how you struggle talking to people as i have a really hard time with it too. It can make me repeat myself, stutter, I can get a bit choked and the words don't come out. It's just a relief to hear I'm not the only one. Thank you for your honest conversation.
Yes, Colin, I've noticed as I've gotten older I pause sometimes after someone says something to think it over in my mind. Usually happens when something is going on and I'm trying to focus on the person. Too much noise bothers me too.
You're a bloody champion for talking about your difficulty with social aspects , suffer depression and PTSD here and understand 110%, respect for your being open on such a hugely open platform... Your videos are making me want to travel back to Aldershot & Yorkshire where I was born & grew up as a lad before being dragged out here to Australia waaaaayyyy back in 1970. Much love guys
Having great fun binge watching your vlogs. I have a question that you might have answered earlier that has to do with the workings of your boat. Where does the gray water(soapy water) from your sinks and shower go, and/or how do you handle it?
I'm on repeat, but yet another great video. I love the bits of history about the canals and locks. Very well done. As for the social anxiety, the world would be a much better place if people could remember to just be kind. We never know what battle(s) someone is fighting... and we are all fighting something.
I'm jealous of you UK people that have this canal system. I wonder if it would even be possible to do a similar thing in the US. I know we have lots of disused canals but I don't know if they connect into a network. Seems like an insurmountable challenge either way.
Another great vlog guys. Great talk of how you are Colin when in conversation. Although some say that i seem confident i can so relate to what you are saying. I tend to avoid sooner than struggle with conversations.
Hi guys . . . Great videos as always. Now following you on your adventures. Until I watched these I have struggled with exactly the same mental health but after watching these and especially this one I can finally understand what I am going through is not something unique to me but many others. For 56 years I have felt so alone and tried so hard to socialise like others but not successful. Thank you so much Colin for helping me to get on with my life in a better way. . . . I hope you get to read this and thanks again.
Colin, I've been meaning to thank you for your occasional personal discussions. They help me deal a little bit better with my situation; like my being old and retired and not presently able to buy me own live aboard and cruise the cut. Ya, this C-19 and my sociopathic president has me way down in the mouth too. BUT! I live vicariously through all the wonderful folks I've met on the canals which is a blessing. Thank you all ever so much. Courtenay Barber (just an old fart locked down in Falmouth, MA)

Aww, thanks, Darren. I've been trying for 47 years and it hasn't got easier though 😂
for people with autism or severe anxiety it does not get easier with practice and depending on the day can be very stressful and wearing.
Soooooooo many people are like us in that respect, Lewis. I won't go to supermarkets if I don't have to. Thank you so much for saying this 👍🏻❤️
I believe you are correct in thinking that there are millions of others who often find it difficult to socialize.
There are! 👍🏻
I have never heard anyone else describe how I feel in social situations as well as you did. I feel the exact same way. Thank You for sharing your feelings with us.

Wow! Interesting, and fascinating that it stems from that. xx
@@FoxesAfloat Yes, that is my take on it anyway.

Shaun cracks me up, hilarious and seems like an incredibly nice guy, everyone should have a Shaun in their lives
Colin, would love to see a vlog sometime about how you prepare and edit these vlogs - a behind the scenes type thing , they are such good quality that would be awesome, would love some tips from you .thanks for your efforts guys - roll on next friday
Cheers, Iwan. Don’t worry about the 👎🏻 We don’t. People do it for their own reasons and it doesn’t affect us in any way 😉
Colin, you are not alone in feeling like you do. One of my best friends was extraverted, always smiling and happy. Life looked so good for him. One would never have known the tortured soul he possessed. The pressure of always expected to be on and happy....he was a master of not burdening his friends with his inner demons. Ah, perfectly put. Makes sense too ❤️
Your frankness & honesty are refreshing. So many times we don't talk about what makes us all unique individuals. Thank you. Cheers guys!
Aww, thank you, Stan! People definitely should talk more ❤️

I’m just loving the whole canal thing it’s just brilliant and I only hope you both know how speaking up about mental health really does make a difference thank you so much. xx
Thanks, Andrew! x
Thanks for another great vlog, gentlemen. And thanks, especially, for the mental health reminder you provided. Your thoughtful words can help people understand themselves and others better, and that's key to a more civil society.
Thanks, Tao! Glad you liked it and understood. Have a lovely weekend 👍🏻
Thanks for discussing mental health, you are helping people that you will never know how much you helped them, thanks for brightening my day.
Thank you, Kenna 💜🤯
Colin, you don't owe anyone any kind of social interaction. They have zero claim upon your time or life energy. That you're willing to give it, and feel bad when you can't, speaks volumes about your good nature - many people would just tell the world to piss off. You're a kind soul, don't be bothered by choosing not to provide what you're under no obligation to give.
I agree. Some people are emotional vampires with their drama and other nonsense.
That’s a really nice thing to say. Thank you 💜
Thank you for sharing your mental health perspective.
Hi, Cheryl 👋🏻
I too didn’t get any diagnosis or support so I totally understand where you’re coming from. Sending love xx
Catching up fast! 👍🏻
A very thoughtful thought there.
That stick version is well hard.
Another great video. Thanks Guys. Ring my Bell.
Haha! Ding ding 🔔
Yeah, it's sad that people assume arrogance 👎🏻
Australia Calling: You are who you are, people like me understand that, i have lost friends (i thought they were) because of who I am. This why I like your commentary on Mental Health Colin
Thanks so much, Leo!
Cheers! J.
Hey, John! 👋 Thank you! Yes, Dillon is LOVING boat life. He's so much fitter, happier, slimmer, and sleeps better too. Have a lovely weekend ❤️
Colin, your openness and perspective on mental health issues is amazing!!! Thank you so much for having the courage and strength..... to say so eloquently, what some of us have not been able to say. Very powerful! Much love to you, Sean and Dillon❤
That's a lovely thing to say. Thank you, Lynn 💜
Thanks so much! x
Another great vlog and some great info on mental health Colin! Disability is not always a visible thing! I always love the northern way people say Jewsbury :). Looking forward to the next one. Ian
Of course it's Jewsbury 😂
Stunning shots again and love Dylan patrol... I like your way you mix everything, scenery, history, serious discussions and plain daft fun x
Thanks, Dannie 👍🏻
@@FoxesAfloat slightly disappointed at the lack of vajazzle this week though... Made me giggle all week!
dannie kirk Haha! Shaun made me promise not to say it again 😂
Hi Jake 👋
What a fantastic thing to say 💜
Chimily. Very nice pick me up for this Friday morning here in the states. Safe journeys!
Chimilly! 😂
Fridays were already really good. Now they're even better!
Aww, thank you! 👍🏻
I really like Colin as a presenter and storyteller. It's wonderfull to watch your vlogs, when you have had your research cap on, and up comes great informative storys and lovely old pictures. 😄😀
Wow, thank you!
Basically, what your talking about is simply compassion and understanding for others. It reminds of a phrase I've used a number of times and that is " damn man, give him a chance, lighten up". Your a good man, love you guys.
Thanks, lovely ❤️
Watched you guys on Amazon Prime and am now working my way through the videos! I find them very relaxing and entertaining during these trying times. I love the ways you guys laugh--it makes me laugh, too. Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you once again for another great vlog. You are both looking extremely well and happy - this life obviously suits you.
Thanks, Steve! It's getting better, gradually 👍🏻
"Purpley waste" ?????
Well that's a doctors visit straight away right there !!! 🤣
Haha! The purple was the additive to help it break down 💩
Was that a prince song?
Ewwww... Imagine that kind of purple rain 🤢
Once again I am struck Colin by just how empowering you are. Thank you. ❤️
Wow, thank you
I really appreciate your comments on social interactions Colin. Many times I have felt the awkwardness that you mention and have wondered what I did to cause it . Its good to know that its just a natural thing w some people . I will try to keep that in mind now . Thank you for taking the time to try to explain this . Safe and happy travels to both of you wonderful guys .
Many thanks!
Why are you called okpainter and not amazingpainter?
@@FoxesAfloat I live in Oklahoma :)
(BTW he did pick up another slice after a minute or two)
Haha! Was gonna say. Don't waste pizza. That story is 15 years old. Not worth wasting good food over 😂
Dillon was such a happy dog always tail wagging 💕
Really was!
Did any one else go "wack" when the camera came that close to the metal bridge? LOL Colin, thank you for giving an insight to the thought processes going on when a situation of conversation may erupt. Take care guys and God Bless, Paul from Florida.
Haha! Yeah, quite a few people ducked to avoid the bridge 😂 Thanks, Paul x
I can understand how you feel Colin, my husband has the same problem communicating... it can be hard. Keep sharing❤
Thank you, Helen ❤️
Another great one from the boys, keep it going. Dont worry about not wanting to make small talk with everyone, Roland and myself are the same. Sales people are the only ones good at talking about anything in detail to anyone...
Thanks, Neil! 👍🏻
Great show. Please don't ever stop doing the outtakes. I laugh my bum off. I can relate. I avoid chatty Cathys and talkative Toms most of the time. Unless I am familiar with them. If I'm in a mood, I avoid them as well.
There’ll always be more outtakes than useable footage 😂
Colin, you are an absolute inspiration. Here's hoping that you two have many MANY more years together.
Thanks so much, Curt!
Everyone should talk xxx
Love Dillion's love of grass and his pacing on the walking path! You guys do we are going with you no matter where you go! We love you guys!
💜💜💜💜💜
Ridiculous that though I only live 6 miles away, I have never visited Stanley Ferry. You've convinced me that I need to.
Hehe, it's lovely walk round there
Your videos really make my day. Thanks.Have a great weekend.👍😊💕💕😉👏👍😎😊
Thank you! You too 👍🏻😉💜👋🏻
Along all with all the great production skills you have, Iove the way the narration and talking to camera is now soooo relaxed. You two have come such a long way in a remarkably short time. Nice one boys.
Thanks, Lew. That means a lot 👍🏻
Love the video, the scenery around y'all is amazing!! I agree about the starting a conversation or even continue one, i give enough to be polite or maybe a bit rude depending on the situation, but some folks just chat away and that's when you just nod your head and smile.
Ah, the old 'nod and smile' technique. I'm a master at that until they question me on something they've said 😂
Just watched this episode of your journey.
👍🏻
Brilliant, boys, love the banter. Always educational 😃👌👏👏👏❤️
Thanks, Terry 👍🏻
Thanks for a lovely, thoughtful comment, Mike. It's really nice that you appreciate exactly how we want to get the message across. x
Bringing extra smiles to me Friday, and pretty views to boot. Thanks for the vlog gents.
No problem. Thanks for enjoying it 👍🏻
Im the same. ☺
Hey, Andrew and WELCOME 👋🏻
Thanks for subscribing. I’m glad you appreciated this video and I hope you enjoy our others. Colin x
I can relate to the public awkwardness and my name is also Andrew, is that related? :)
Andrew Elliott Spooky 😂
Thanks for the reply Colin 👍 im busy watching you guys being swept away in Vlog #57. I think i would of 'lay an egg' in that situation. By heck that tide was coming in fast🌊🌊
I wait up till after midnight for your notifications. (Down Under) I am really enjoying the map views so that we get a real sense of where the canals go.
Thank you so much! Sleep tight x
You should! x
If you ever think, that being a perfectionist and doing a take 20 times is nerve wrecking, then watch your own vlogs!
They are brilliant *because* of the demand for perfection - plus that makes divine outtakes. 🤣
👍🏻 Thank you! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey Colin
I work with people every day of my working life (I'm a Psychologist), and it's STILL really hard to make those first bits of conversations go well. If they don't like sod 'em! :)
Haha! Can I just tell them to sod off? 😂 Thanks, John. Have a fab weekend 👍🏻
@@FoxesAfloat I think that's usually a bad idea, but hell, it's worth a try
@@johnmorris7781 😂 I'll let you know how I get on with it 👊
I'm terribly shy when it comes to talking to strangers and acquaintances and even people I've known all my life!
Thank you so much for this. It means a lot that people are engaging and talking about it.
Cheers, Phil. You have to switch the bell on for it to work. Sometimes we release surprise vlogs too 😉
A very thoughtful & thought-provoking video there guys. As the parent of an adult son with Asperger's & ADHD I greatly sympathise with your issues Colin. And thanks for the advance notice - if we ever have the chance of meeting, I promise not to shout at you if you scuttle back into the boat !! 😎😃😲
Someone once did you know. They banged on the side of the boat and shouted my name. Shaun went mad with them! 😂
Thanks for putting this video together !! As a person who suffers from anxiety and depression I understand…I’m glad you talk about it 💥 ( one day at a time ) that’s my view. Stay safe and take care !!
💙💙💙
Colin, you have such an amazing way of describing issues. Since childhood I've struggled with being shy. I don't like social situations. It always feels awkward around people I don't know. It's so good realising so many other people are the same. Thanks for getting this stuff out there. 😊
You're so welcome!
1. It was!
2. What story?
3. Always!
4. No, uses too much power.
5. Thank you 😊
6. Yes! Haha!
I am sure I have said this before, but it needs repeating. You two are just the cutest. Thanks for sharing what you do, you help more than you know. Really lovely footage of your journeys.
Aww, thank you, Rob
I started from number 1 and I am going through all your vlogs slowly, so they last, I also watch the new ones when they come up on Fridays. I've watched a lot of your vlogs more than once and I send links of my faves out to my friends and family to watch. Just loving your journey.
Glad you like them! Thank you so much for your support 👍🏻
Michael
Yeah, get your arse over here, Michael 😂 x
I subscribed after seeing you On Martin zeros video , I’ve got to say I’ve never really payed any attention to canal boats , but I find your channel really interesting ✅ cheers
Our pleasure! 👍🏻
Aaaah Haah a picture of a Tom Pudding boat lol ............ My world expands every time I see one of your Vlogs .... Cheers Guys loving it :)
Thanks, Alec. People were asking last week so I thought I'd include one this week 😉
@@FoxesAfloat Yeah I was asking lol 😂
I think i have the same social anxiety, i can not hold a conversation, and most of my answers to anybody is just yes or no, i just really can never think of anything to say.
Although i have always gone to work, i find it just holds me back, and people just think i'm weird, and even though i have worked on the same job for 23years i still get anxious before i go to work every day, because i don't want to talk to people.
Welcome to the club, Nigel! There's quite a few of us here 😂👍🏻
👍🐶 Thanks, Colin, for your refreshing honesty and bravery in sharing your challenges. These are things everyone needs to be aware of and be empathetic to. Thoroughly enjoying all your content, and looking forward to following your continuing travels. All the best to you three 🐶.
Thank you! xxx
What’s so hard about conversation in Yorkshire? Goes like
“Hiya, wethers crap agin innit”
“Not as bad as we ad it mate”
“Ha ha, mebbe, see ya later”
“ yea cheers”
Job done lol.
Haha! That's exactly right 😂
I can really relate to your advice about "conversations." At times, I've felt myself wishing to be a dog, who when he doesn't have much to say, he just sniffs the others' butts! Your thoughts are a treasure, and your honesty sets fine standards for us all. Thanks for all of what you are doing.
OMG! Haha! A dog 😂
Thanks! Not sure I ever will.
Well, "got used to it" might have been a tad too enthusiastic, accepted it would be more accurate. 🙂
OMG sorry Colin I laughed as I am sure Shaun did too. Now I know why you all wanted nothing to do with a pump out toilet.🤣😂
Good words of wisdom regarding people’s struggles. Thank you!💜
😁
I can start being a bit shy to people at first but eventually start coming round to talking to boaters and other people passing by
👍🏻
Thanks Jane
Thank you for talking about how you struggle talking to people as i have a really hard time with it too. It can make me repeat myself, stutter, I can get a bit choked and the words don't come out. It's just a relief to hear I'm not the only one. Thank you for your honest conversation.
Thanks, Pauline. I thinks there’s a lot of us 💜
Yes, Colin, I've noticed as I've gotten older I pause sometimes after someone says something to think it over in my mind. Usually happens when something is going on and I'm trying to focus on the person. Too much noise bothers me too.
I hate noise! 🙉
My Saturday morning 'fix' in NZ, foxes afloat. thanks for another fun, informative vlog. And Dillon had lots of screen too.
Thanks, Christine. Enjoy your weekend 👍🏻
We all need to meet colin’s mum!
😬
You're a bloody champion for talking about your difficulty with social aspects , suffer depression and PTSD here and understand 110%, respect for your being open on such a hugely open platform...
Your videos are making me want to travel back to Aldershot & Yorkshire where I was born & grew up as a lad before being dragged out here to Australia waaaaayyyy back in 1970.
Much love guys
Ah, you're not missing much, except cold and rain, Graeme! Enjoy the vlogs if you enjoy the memories and enjoy the warmth of Oz 👍🏻❤️
Having great fun binge watching your vlogs. I have a question that you might have answered earlier that has to do with the workings of your boat. Where does the gray water(soapy water) from your sinks and shower go, and/or how do you handle it?
It goes into the canal.
I'm on repeat, but yet another great video. I love the bits of history about the canals and locks. Very well done. As for the social anxiety, the world would be a much better place if people could remember to just be kind. We never know what battle(s) someone is fighting... and we are all fighting something.
That's exactly right, Jesse. Thank you x
Another great video guys, thanks.
Can I just ask what canal guide you use please, and if it covers the width of each stretch?
Thanks again, Robin
Hi, Robin,
We use the Nicholson's and Pearson's guides, along with some Google research. x
@@FoxesAfloat Thanks 👍
Nice one lads I find it hard to talk to strangers and keep the Conversation going .cheers ✌️
Thanks, Lee 💜
I'm jealous of you UK people that have this canal system. I wonder if it would even be possible to do a similar thing in the US. I know we have lots of disused canals but I don't know if they connect into a network. Seems like an insurmountable challenge either way.
I guess it’s because of the industrial revolution we had before America was truly born
Another great vlog guys. Great talk of how you are Colin when in conversation. Although some say that i seem confident i can so relate to what you are saying. I tend to avoid sooner than struggle with conversations.
Thanks, Kevin 👍🏻

Hi guys . .
Thanks so much, Mark! Sending love 💜
Well said about the mental health issue. I know what you mean
Thanks, Matthew x
Colin, I've been meaning to thank you for your occasional personal discussions. They help me deal a little bit better with my situation; like my being old and retired and not presently able to buy me own live aboard and cruise the cut. Ya, this C-19 and my sociopathic president has me way down in the mouth too. BUT! I live vicariously through all the wonderful folks I've met on the canals which is a blessing. Thank you all ever so much. Courtenay Barber (just an old fart locked down in Falmouth, MA)
Thank you, Courtenay 💜
