  • Unboxing Asus' ROG Phone 6 Pro smartphone, with a review of the gaming performance, Game Genie features, battery life and beyond! PubG, Genshin Impact and the biggest Android titles run beautifully on the ROG Phone 6 Pro, which upgrades some of the specs and design work - for the ultimate gamer phone of 2022. It's more powerful than the Red Magic and Black Shark, boasting a solid range of accessories like the AeroActive Cooler 6 and Kunai gamepad.
    Check out my reviews of the other best gaming smartphones around, including the Black Shark 5 Pro.
    Asus' latest powerhouse packs in the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, which means unbeatable performance. The ROG Phone 6 Pro's cooling tech keeps the phone from throttling, while the optional AeroActive Cooler 6 is ideal for all-day play. The Armoury Crate and Game Genie tools add in all kinds of great features, including mapping for the excellent AirTrigger buttons.
    Battery life is good enough for at least three hours of Genshin Impact action, or up to six hours on less intensive titles such as Call of Duty and PubG. You also have a respectable Sony camera sensor, although the video capture was quite buggy pre-launch.
    So that's my ROG Phone 6 Pro hands-on review, are you tempted by this gaming smartphone?

    Thanks for watching my tour of the ROG Phone 6 Pro! It's hitting the UK soon for £1099, while the regular ROG Phone 6 starts from £899. Big price, but you get some serious power in return

      @@GRRoman-is1pg I'm not a fan of the red magic phones due to software problems, fan vulnerability, and most importantly the fact that they don't support many cellular bands. ASUS has better carrier coverage and compatability. Its fast yea, but not so much is on the table for being a phone.

    You're the only reviewer I've seen that mentions gorilla glass victus scratching more easily than other kinds, other reviewers just say it's "better" and leave it at that. It's something I noticed and thought I was going crazy over, so it's good to know it's actually a thing.

      agreed

    • @kane2369
      @kane2369 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I found that too when looking into what the rankings meant. Seems you either go for scratch resistance or shatter resistance. So depending on how you treat your phone it could matter.
      I never drop my phone but it gets scratched, so for me GG3 is better for scratch resistance. But if you're prone to dropping and screen shatters, 5 might be better. JerryRigEverything explained that GG rankings are vs actual glass, not other versions of gorilla glass.. not too transparent (heh).
      Victus claims to be better at both but does seem to scratch semi often in Uncle Spurt's videos. I got no experience with victus personally. When reviewers say the Pixel A series having GG3 is bad, it's not the whole picture and could be good/bad depending.

    If you use the phone cooler with the phone, it will surely drain the battery a lot faster. But that is resolved when you bypass the power charge while gaming. Only problem is that, the cable connector on the phone seems to be a big problem when gaming since it kinda hinders your phone handling while gaming? Or is there another plug thingy on the cooler itself? hmm...

    I've been curious about something in these reviews. Usually there is only one review for every model, even if there are multiple variants in terms of RAM.
    Does the RAM have so little effect in a phone's performance that its negligible in reviews? What part of the phone's performance does it affect?

    • @Fenlen
      @Fenlen ปีที่แล้ว +10

      RAM capacity is usually only relevant in two scenarios - the amount of apps you can run at the same time and games. When you go beyond 8gb of RAM you will hardly ever notice any difference with regular apps. Even if you have dozens of them open Android is usually smart about it these days and will free some up accordingly. When gaming (on phones in particular, pcs are another story) it juts comes down to: "is there enough ram here". 8gb is plenty for phones, so if one version has 12gb and the other 16gb it really doesn't make a huge difference.

      @@justsomerandomweeb11 Basically the OS started acting up, stuff randomly crashes, Google apps in particular are affected the most. It gets to the point where I need to restart my phone frequently.
      Plus it randomly just overheats and costumes battery like crazy with no plausible explanation.
      I'm switching to something more general-purpose later this year. No thanks...

      If i want a gaming phone, id stick with red magic. Its like a more refined rog with a vision of what it wants to be. Not like rog phones where obviously they are sold only to rip off rich people with terrible ui and buggy software (all asus phone line have terrible stability. Only phone i had or came across with with perfect and stable, and so ahead of its time zenfone 5 line, especially 5z)

      some strange comments over here. i have rog phone 3 for over a year now. never ran into any issues. performance is still quite the same. maybe it has something to do with overall failure-of-a-chip snapdragon 888. edit: one and only time i updated it is when i got the phone. could be problem also, looking at other comments.

    Why don't you make an ROG6 FE?
    With the same cooling system and features as the 6 but with an sd870 chipset, 8gb/128gb storage and an ips screen to lower the price to compete with poco f4 gt.
    That would sell like pancakes for gamers.

      Asus now focused just on the flagships for smartphones. thats why we never had continuation for affordable max pro series.

    Despite a few shortcomings, I think I'll buy this phone as my next daily driver. Or not this Pro model, but the regular one. I'll probably hate the OS as well, but considering how few options I have left to begin with, beggars can't be choosers.

      Under screen fps is a negative imo. No SD card.
      As someone with a 4k screen, the content and SoC aren't entirely there. Better battery life and brightness of a lower resolution are worth it.

      @@bipbop3121 Sounds like you have a Sony. I can't stand side mounted fingerprint scanners myself. But to each their own. I know how wildly people's preferences can differ. I never really cared for the SD card, but I can understand why people want it. As for the resolution, there are huge drawbacks in gaming (it's a gaming smartphone) as the content on the screen is much smaller and zoomed in than when using something like QHD display, where you have much more free real estate and the HUD is much smaller as well.
