Love the butcher birds, they sing for you while you work your garden beds and then clean up any grubs and worms left behind. Smart little things, and totally unafraid.
@johnnytheprick Super impressed. I never knew they could do more than their famous melodious carolling. My life hasn't changed much know this, however, I did learn something.
This happened with My dad and our cockatiel. He'd be out doing the gardening and the bird would be doing his thing indoors, whistling away. He'd have to point back at the house, "It was the bird!" haha
A Blue Jay once acted like tat for me. Way back when I was little. It would watch me until I had a cricket in my hand then swoop in and nom it up! It didn't sing like that cutie, but it was a friend.
I've got some footage of our friendly butcher bird singing heaps and doing a telephone call and police siren, they're amazing birds. Sometimes he'd carry on for about 2 hours.
theres about 10 of them around our house and they vote on whos turn it is to come down and get fed at our place . Its funny that they think I don't know whats what ! Awesome though 10 birds pretending to be the same one is getting expensive but my boys need their luncheon !
I've had a family of Butcher birds visiting me nearly every day for the past five years, great little mates. Both Magpies & butcher birds are very intelligent & beautiful singers. Nice video buddy. When I've hand fed the magpies that used to visit me daily (for the mince steak) they would sometimes sit on my arm. Both species can be so friendly. Awesome birds to have around the house.
This was nice 2 watch. Its 4am and whilst emailing,I decided to take a little break and put on something interesting 4 my little cat,Chloe, who has been sitting on my lap watching my boring work on the screen. I looked up 'Bird videos for cats" & found yours by chance in the same general area. However,I like this vid myself, and, seeing as its Australian I felt at home, so Ive subscribed. (I'm in Melbourne). (PS- Chloe liked it too- she watched it twice,so Ive saved it for her). thanks folks,Susan
magpies, butch birds and even a kookaburra can all be very tame , once they get to know that you will feed them. magpie season comes around , family and i never get a hit in the head. they know if they do they will never be feed again.
thank mate for watching.... i haven't made any more video for a long time, as i have got into photo these birds and others...i hope you friends got to sing for you too. sad that our frind in this video has long past, but the good news is his family comes every day to visit
yes it a good to listen .we have now 4 butcherbirds that come on the hour to be feed. one of the older bird ,we are trying to teach the word 'food' . we also get magpies singing now.one will sit and sing for 10 minutes before it takes its food. and for those that want to know what food we give them ,its just mince beef .
I have a vested interest in the butcherbird as my Christian name is Pauline Butcher and my married name is Pauline Bird. I don't think they live in Singapore or I'd lover to find one. My cat is staring at the computer trying to work out where the bird is. She's so disturbed!
This one is mimicking other birds too. I recorded the sound of Pied Butcher Birds mimicking native birds, chicken and dog bark soundcloud.com/bassethound-1 I have also heard Magpies mimic in rare occasions.
Catch a huntsman or cricket or something and chuck it at one of them. Watch them catch it mid air and then rip it to shreds... Magpies suck, they can't seem to catch mid air and butcherbirds way more efficient at breaking down their foods. Very appropriately named :D
After 8 years you might not get this but it is because they are known to hang their food on a twig like a butcher hangs meat on a hook if they want to store it for a while, although I think they usually eat what they catch when they catch it.

No other bird in the world like this. My favourite.
I do like these birds like most birds of australia they are quite friendly & have very beautiful vocal chords.
A wonderful bird :) For sure a 5 star performance ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and 👍
Had one come up to my windows and sing for me awesome songbirds !
Smart butcher sang then left straight after it had a feed.
Butcher birds are the first thing I hear most mornings, they are wonderful little birds.

@johnnytheprick You too, mate. From now to the end. John 5:24 ESV.
Most corvids can mimick! In Alaska we have Eurasia Magpie and they're known to mimick as well as Ravens and Crows

I didn't know they imitate other bird noises. He sounded like a lorikeet in places there.
Maybe its to bait them in so he can eat them.
Beautiful!!🥰🥰

Such a beautiful bird and a lovely song. So tame! :O

0:12 - 0:14 is it just me or did the butcherbird just imitate an Owl and a Rainbow Lorikeet?

I'm from New Zealand, and have thought many times of moving over just for the hotter climate, plus I love the Aussie wildlife.

Its imitating as well. Half that song isnt his.
How did butcher birds get their name? They are no more a butcher than a magpie or an eagle. Reminds me, I'm running low on steak...
After 8 years you might not get this but it is because they are known to hang their food on a twig like a butcher hangs meat on a hook if they want to store it for a while, although I think they usually eat what they catch when they catch it.
we give them piece of hamburger meat ..and yes we threw up the meat like you say and they do catch the meat..lots of birds will catch in fly
:)))))))))
I think that’s a magpie...
TommyDoesRBLX it's a butcher bird, half the size of magpie
ratt1972 ok, some look similar though!
@@mh_nk7 they look very different in real life 👍
It's not although it is similar. Probably a closely related species
Nice song but I wouldn`t encourage these birds if you have pet budgies or finches. They will kill them if they can.
budgies have hook beeks
Really?
That’s unsettling
Would've been better without the human interference.
not a butcher bird....its a currawong.....butcher birds are grey
+nolpam99 It's a Pied Butcher Bird. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pied_butcherbird
+nolpam99
Currawongs have yellow eyes. This is a butcher bird.
ITs not a bloody currawong...its a butcher bird..you can get them in grey and pied like this one
